CIN: E. Ramírez (2-5, 3.44 ERA)
NYM: S. Trachsel (4-4, 4.81 ERA)

The only non-interleague game on the slate for tonight. Luckily for purists, Trachsel is starting.

What lineup do you guys think is better?

Reyes
Endy
Beltran
Delgado
Wright
Floyd
Castro
Valentin

or

Reyes
Lo Duca
Beltran
Delgado
Wright
Floyd
Nady
Valentin

This isn't the lineup I'd use but considering the fact the Mets want a "traditional" second place hitter do you think the first lineup would be preferable to the current lineup the mets are using?
   2. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2069985)
I'm back. Radiohead, Beck and others blew my mind away for four days.

Nady sucks?
   3. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 06:47 PM (#2069990)
And Reyes is leading SS in All-Star voting? Sweet.

I didn't realize how good of a season he was having until I read this.
   4. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2070012)
You don't run on Milledge, #####!
   5. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2070019)
Milledge has a very accurate arm.
   6. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:19 PM (#2070020)
LASTINGS MILLEDGE!
   7. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2070022)
Reyes is so sweet.
   8. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2070025)
Reyes is pretty much god right now. It's awesome to see.
   9. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2070026)
Jose!
   10. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2070027)
It's really nice to see Reyes go the other way when he is hitting lefthanded.
   11. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2070031)
Reyes has been on base 24 times now in the last 10 games.
   12. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:23 PM (#2070033)
Lo Duca!
   13. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:23 PM (#2070034)
This breakout season was due in coming. Reyes' comps include three HOFers. If that doesn't give you an idea of his upside, I don't know what does.
   14. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2070035)
Maybe that will help Willie learn about sacrificing in the first inning.
   15. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2070039)
Delgado!
   16. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2070040)
Delgado!!
   17. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2070041)
First inning runs are awesome.
   18. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:29 PM (#2070045)
Hmm, I'm thinking that Matt should be barred from leaving. He was clearly the missing ingredient.
   19. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2070061)
Reyes has an OPS of 1.031 in June. That's ####### unreal.
   20. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2070075)
Reyes has scored 20 runs in 16 games this month. That's pretty remarkable.
   21. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2070089)
Interviews with coachs while Trachsel is on the mound are painful.
   22. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2070090)
Another hit for Reyes.
   23. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:04 PM (#2070095)
Reyes is hitting .277/.342/.450 right now. Not bad for a 23 year old SS who plays excellent defense and is arguably the best baserunner in baseball.
   24. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:06 PM (#2070098)
That was the luckiest catch ever.
   25. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:06 PM (#2070099)
Everything Nady does looks difficult. Even a good catch like that.
   26. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:07 PM (#2070100)
I fully expected Nady to botch that one.
   27. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:09 PM (#2070106)
Was that even a good catch or did Nady make it look harder than it was?
   28. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2070107)
I think Nady made it look harder.
   29. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2070109)
Is Pedro pitching Tuesday or Wednesday at Fenway? I need to make sure I'm around for that one.
   30. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:15 PM (#2070111)
I still say that's an above average catch. Of course, Endy would have made it look so easy, no one even would have commented on it.
   31. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:17 PM (#2070114)
Oh, amd what do you guys think of Willie's plan at DH? He wants to DH Delgado and play Franco at first rather than DH someone like Floyd and keep Milledge on the roster.
   32. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:18 PM (#2070115)
Endy probably catches that too.
   33. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:21 PM (#2070117)
Oh, amd what do you guys think of Willie's plan at DH? He wants to DH Delgado and play Franco at first rather than DH someone like Floyd and keep Milledge on the roster.

I'm pretty indifferent. Franco will probably hit just as well as Milledge and his defense at first is an upgrade. Probably not as much as Milledge over Floyd, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's fairly close. Plus, Delgado could probably afford a few days out of the field and Floyd's gonna be well rested by the time that rolls around.

It could really go either way.
   34. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2070120)
I don't like it Matt. I'd DH Floyd or Nady.
   35. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2070121)
I think Willie wants to get Franco some playing time. You want to keep the veteran happy.
   36. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2070122)
HAHAHA! Did anyone hear the Reds dugout on SNY? "BIG PIMPIN', YEAH!"
   37. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:25 PM (#2070125)
My question is, will Franco be able to start nine games in a row? Do you play someone else at first in that case?
   38. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:28 PM (#2070132)
Milledge is a total hacker. How did he have a good walk rate in AAA?
   39. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:28 PM (#2070133)
My question is, will Franco be able to start nine games in a row? Do you play someone else at first in that case?

A good point. I'd imagine that Floyd or Nady will get SOME time at DH then, with Endy playing in the field on occasion. Or maybe some hot Eli action at first. Does he even play there or am I just pretending that he does?

Either way, when you take that into account, Milledge probably should still be on the roster. But then again, don't put it past Endy to outhit Milledge for the rest of the year. This is Endy's magical year, apparently.
   40. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2070135)
How did he have a good walk rate in AAA?
Batted leadoff on a dreadful team. Maybe he's just pressing in the 8 hole?
   41. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:31 PM (#2070137)
TRAX!
   42. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:31 PM (#2070138)
That ball was crushed.
   43. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:31 PM (#2070139)
Ok, that ####### ruled. Probably the coolest thing I've seen Trachsel do... uh, ever.
   44. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:32 PM (#2070140)
Trachsel crushed that. Wow.
   45. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:32 PM (#2070141)
I cannot believe what I just saw!
   46. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:33 PM (#2070143)
Does he even play there or am I just pretending that he does?

He plays there.
   47. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:38 PM (#2070147)
He plays there.

That's one of the bigger concerns I have for the Mets for the rest of the way... making the Kaz deal look bad by overplaying Eli. He should definitely be the last man on the bench now.

Of course, the fact that's one of my bigger concerns shows how well the season is going.
   48. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:40 PM (#2070150)
Realistically, Woodward, Nady and Marrero all could play 1B.
   49. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:42 PM (#2070151)
Dunn weighs 275 pounds!
   50. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:42 PM (#2070152)
Pelfrey pitching against Akron: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
   51. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2070153)
Wow, if the Red Sox skip Kyle Snyder (they're off on Thursday and Monday), the pitching matchups could be Soler/Lester, Pedro/Beckett and Glavine/Schilling.
   52. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:55 PM (#2070160)
Trachsel is very close to being finished. In fact, Willie may be pulling his normal stunt here.
   53. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:55 PM (#2070161)
Well, Trachsel's predictably falling apart here.
   54. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:56 PM (#2070164)
Well, just one batter too late tonight.
   55. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2070165)
Well, I think that's a good hook from Willie.
   56. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2070166)
Trachsel's two-strike pitches can be quite maddening.
   57. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2070168)
Dirty in the seventh with none out? Um, okay.
   58. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 20, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2070170)
I thought Willie was obsessed with his bullpen... well, when Trachsel had them through six, the seventh was the time, not after he loaded the bases.
   59. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2070171)
Dirty in the seventh with none out? Um, okay.

Good flexibility from Willie there. This is a very critical situation in the ballgame and Sanchez has shown a tendency to get the DP ball.
   60. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2070175)
Yeah, but so does Bradford. And he's stranded the world on base.
   61. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2070177)
Trachsel was at around 80 pitches after six. You can't pull him there.
   62. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2070179)
Sanchez the DP Machine!
   63. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2070181)
Dirty DP!
   64. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2070182)
Sanchez has shown a tendency to get the DP ball.
Is this some kind of repeatable skill or is it luck?
   65. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2070183)
Way to make me look bad Dirty!
   66. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2070185)
Boy, Sanchez saved Trachsel's ass right there.
   67. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2070186)
Sanchez is the better option there because of Bradford's ROOGiness. Valentin's a lefty and they could have used a pinchhitter as well.
   68. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2070187)
Is this some kind of repeatable skill or is it luck?

Well, he does throw a sinker.

STORMY WEATHERS!
   69. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2070190)
With Trachsel, it's got to go by innings instead of pitches at this point. He doesn't have enough stuff to get batters out three times, let alone four.
   70. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2070191)
Has Steve Trachsel ever smiled? Has he ever showed emotion? Is he human?
   71. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:07 PM (#2070196)
Trax didn't seem to be happy doing that interview.
   72. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:07 PM (#2070198)
Is this some kind of repeatable skill or is it luck?

Good question. I'd wager it's the same or slightly more repeatable than stranding inherited runners anyway, which is what Bradford has been really good at.

Matt, do you think that Bradford is a better reliever than Sanchez though over the long haul? I think that Sanchez is probably the second best reliever on the Mets and obviously, Wagner isn't gonna be brought into that situation. Willie's identification of a situation in the seventh being more important for Sanchez than an eighth inning with no one on is pretty good progress as far as tactics go.
   73. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2070202)
XXX!!
   74. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2070203)
No, Banta. I guess I was just surpised Willie deviated from the flight plan. Shocked me a bit.

Weathers must really suck. Nady takes him deep.
   75. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2070205)
Nady!
   76. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2070206)
NADY!
   77. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2070207)
And Nady helps cements my point of that seventh inning being the most critical part of the game. And also marks probably the only time of the season I've been right.

Is this what it feels like to be smart?
   78. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2070211)
WHAT THE ####? KILL DAVID WEATHERS.
   79. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2070212)
Do you think Weathers meant to do that?
   80. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2070213)
I'm not sure that hit him.
   81. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:14 PM (#2070215)
I don't think it hit him, either.
   82. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:14 PM (#2070216)
Do you think Weathers meant to do that?

They say you should throw up and in when there is a bunt.
   83. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2070219)
Paulie!
   84. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2070220)
Now, if Willie REALLY wanted to show me something, he'd pull Sanchez even though he still batted for him and have Heath Bell finish up this game.
   85. Bob Koo Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2070221)
Nothing like David Weathers to help resurrect the Mets' offense.
   86. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:17 PM (#2070225)
Sanchez batted for himSELF, I meant. Which was apparent, but I still feel the need to correct myself.
   87. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:21 PM (#2070230)
The Cincinnati Reds Bullpen: where veterans come to die.

I want to get a blue jersey tshirt. I'm down to between Pedro and Reyes. How can I make this decision?
   88. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:23 PM (#2070235)
Reyes.
   89. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:23 PM (#2070236)
I'm down to between Pedro and Reyes. How can I make this decision?

Pedro is the awesomeness.

I have the black Pedro shirt.
   90. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2070240)
PEDRO!!

Seriously, I think he's the one player I like enough to buy a jersey for, though I don't quite see the need to wear someone else's name on my back.
   91. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2070245)
Okay. I was leaning towards Pedro and this is vindication. I have a Wright jersey already, so he was out of the equation from the start.
   92. Joshemy Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2070247)
Just got in. This looks good.
   93. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:29 PM (#2070252)
I heard Heilman blew the big one while I was gone. He looks shaky still.
   94. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:30 PM (#2070253)
What if Bradford/Feliciano passed Heilman on the bullpen depth chart?
   95. Rob Base Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:32 PM (#2070256)
Haha, Acta is the WORST!
   96. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:32 PM (#2070257)
Uh... Manny Acta is, uh, crazy?
   97. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:33 PM (#2070259)
It would have been great if Valentin ran over his brother at home.
   98. AJM Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:33 PM (#2070261)
Damn.

That was a hell of a throw.
   99. Rob Base Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:33 PM (#2070262)
X!
   100. Banta Posted: June 20, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2070263)
Well, Nady doesn't suck quite so bad anymore.
