CIN (38-33) at NYM (44-26) - 7:10 PM

CIN: Mays (0-4, 8.22)
NYM: Soler (2-1, 3.00)

Joe Mays was released by the Kansas City Royals.  Somehow, the Reds think he’ll help them.

To paraphrase The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading, Etc. Book: being released by the Royals is a little bit like being thrown out of the Bowery for slovenliness.
   2. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 01:00 PM (#2070764)
Anybody know the over/under on Mets runs tonight. I expect double digits.
   3. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 03:57 PM (#2070962)
It's too bad he doesn't still play for the Mets. Baseball hasn't had a good Mays-Chapman confrontation since 1920.
   4. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:03 PM (#2071167)
Pinstripes and...black? Wtf?

No Milo.
   5. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:08 PM (#2071173)
Can someone explain to me why the Mets are not wearing this patch?
   6. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2071181)
If Wright isn't willing to barehand that, he probably shouldn't make the throw.
   7. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:15 PM (#2071185)
Good god, that Reyes thread got massive. Looks like I have some reading to do.
   8. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2071189)
Soler's fastball does seem to be getting faster. 90-91 for that inning. Encouraging.
   9. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2071193)
HE IS ON ####### FIRE!

HOF!
   10. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2071194)
REYES!
   11. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2071196)
Reyes kills those who disbelieve!
   12. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2071202)
Better than Larkin!
   13. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2071206)
Reyes has no power. In two years when he slows down those will turn into doubles.
   14. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2071207)
Reyes just upped his OPS to over .800 on the season.
   15. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2071231)
Uh, someone is probably gonna have to tell Valentin that he's not fast.
   16. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2071232)
What are you doing Valentin?
   17. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2071243)
Lo Duca is useless behind the plate.
   18. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2071246)
LoDuca has never caught a ball from the outfield. All season. Stupid throw from Beltran, but seriously. LoDuca is pretty worthless.
   19. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2071247)
Nady is also useless.
   20. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2071248)
Oh god, Nady. That's an out with Endy in right.
   21. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:52 PM (#2071259)
Shitty ass defensive inning. Passed ball, bad throw by Beltran and Nady's suckitude.
   22. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2071264)
<strike>Larkin!</strike> Reyes!
   23. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2071265)
This is beautiful to watch. Works the count to 3-2 and laces a double.

Magnificent.
   24. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2071268)
Thats a single next year.
   25. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2071270)
Reyes is beyond words at the moment.
   26. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2071276)
You suck Lo Duca.
   27. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2071279)
Is it wrong of me to be almost out of patience for LoDuca? Do I have "nothing to complain about"?
   28. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:01 PM (#2071285)
I don't know Banta, I've always hated Lo Duca, so join the club!
   29. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:01 PM (#2071287)
Lo Duca sucks. Why was he loved in LA?
   30. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:04 PM (#2071303)
Anyone else notice SNY has started showing OBP on its overlays? However, it's only shown on a player's first at-bat of the game.

Baby steps.
   31. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:07 PM (#2071317)
I've always hated Lo Duca, so join the club!

I have been looking for a new club since the Cut Kaz Matsui club folded. Maybe I can still use all the tshirts if I just cross out Matsui's name and replace it with LoDuca's.

Why was he loved in LA?

Because he's a nice guy without an ego who "plays hard". Also, EVERYONE IN LA IS ON DRUGS. HARD, INTENSE, FLAMING DRUGS.

No kidding, ask around.
   32. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2071324)
Ryan Freel is this week's Eric Byrnes.

Little Debbie can get off that mound pretty quick.
   33. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2071326)
Freel is starting to PISS ME OFF
   34. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2071328)
Anyone else notice SNY has started showing OBP on its overlays?

Yeah, that's pretty cool. I've always wondered why broadcasts just can't list AVG/OBP/SLG, it doesn't take up much room.
   35. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2071333)
Stache!
   36. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2071334)
Who says Mustacho can't jump? SWEET.

Soler has thrown 75 pitches. Fire up Heath.
   37. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2071337)
JUMPIN' JACK STACHE
   38. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2071341)
Soler has thrown 75 pitches.

I'm seriously down for seeing for Soler can pitch 150 pitches. It's just a feeling, but I really think he's the sort of guy who could do it.
   39. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:14 PM (#2071346)
The Mets need to start scoring some damn runs. It would be unacceptable to lose this one.
   40. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:14 PM (#2071348)
I'm not saying he can't do it; I really don't want to see it.
   41. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:16 PM (#2071354)
After I write my book on the 1999 Mets, I think I'll do one on the 2006 Mets. Not as many characters as 1999, but just as many good stories. Mustacho and Oliver are just two.
   42. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:20 PM (#2071370)
####### Nady.
   43. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:21 PM (#2071374)
It's up to Endy. For some reason I have confidence in him.
   44. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2071378)
Mustacho and Oliver are just two.

It's kind of amusing that after a trade for ROBERTO ALOMAR and massive money being spent on THE BEST PLAYER THIS SIDE OF ICHIRO, that it's the decaying carcass of Jose Valentin that's the best secondbase option since Fonzie left and it's not even close. Two moves that were considered good at the time (Alomar's considered REALLY good, and Matsui's pretty good) that failed about as spectacularly as moves can... I guess the Mets were due some karma at second base.
   45. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:23 PM (#2071382)
Come on Little Debbie.
   46. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:24 PM (#2071385)
I have SOME confidence in Endy, but it's swings like that that make me wonder when his pixie dust will run out.

That was a disgusting inning.
   47. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:24 PM (#2071386)
That's what I get for having confidence in Endy.
   48. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:26 PM (#2071396)
Trivia: I'll go with Alfonzo.
   49. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:29 PM (#2071402)
What was the trivia question?
   50. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2071407)
####### Lo Duca.
   51. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2071408)
Ramon Castro REALLY needs more playing time.
   52. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:31 PM (#2071409)
LODUCA, STOP BEING A SUCKHEAD. SOLER ROCKS AND YOU'RE RUINING HIS DAY
   53. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:33 PM (#2071415)
I ####### hate Paul Lo Duca.
   54. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2071418)
These are the most pathetic four runs ever. Soler could have a shutout, really.
   55. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2071419)
Heath Bell is up. Willie is basically conceding this one.
   56. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2071445)
They need Reyes to hit a five-run homer.

Or a triple. Tonight's a cycle night.
   57. Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2071446)
He is so gooooood.
   58. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2071447)
HOLY CRAP, REYES COULD GET THE CYCLE TONIGHT!!!
   59. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2071448)
REYES IS GOD!!!
   60. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2071449)
3/4 of the way to the cycle!
   61. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:42 PM (#2071454)
Reyes has no power.
   62. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:43 PM (#2071456)
Good thing, because Blow Duca certainly wouldn't have knocked him in.
   63. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2071462)
Barry who?
   64. Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:45 PM (#2071464)
I hate too watch the scoreboard this early in the season, but ...

the Braves are losing again.
   65. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:45 PM (#2071465)
You know, the last time there was a large Reyes thread, comparing him to Cano, Reyes had a huge day the next day. I'm sensing a trend.
   66. J. Cross Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2071474)
damn, inches from a tie game there.
   67. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2071475)
Wright!

Delgado is very slow.
   68. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2071476)
Damn, that was almost gone.
   69. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2071479)
The Reds played that well (until the overthrow, which didn't hurt them). Cost us a run, pending this AB . . . .
   70. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2071480)
Dammit.
   71. Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2071483)
This Wright fellow seems capable as well.
   72. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2071487)
Well, you know Nady will make the last out.
   73. J. Cross Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2071489)
intentionally walking Valentin to get to Nady?

I don't mind that.
   74. Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2071490)
I wouldn't trade Reyes for Cano if they threw in Jeter too.
   75. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2071491)
Come on, X. One time, baby. Make me happy.
   76. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2071492)
Come on, Nady. Let's have a good at bat.
   77. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2071495)
Come on X.
   78. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071496)
God, Nady is swinging at crap so far this AB. Ugh.
   79. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071497)
Jesus. That was ####### dreadful.
   80. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071498)
Jose Reyes has a ton more plate discipline than Nady.
   81. Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071499)
Unbelievable.
   82. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071501)
Nady might be worse than Blow Duca.
   83. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2071502)
Nady sucks.
   84. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:52 PM (#2071504)
Jose Reyes has a ton more plate discipline than Nady.

So would Jose Feliciano.
   85. J. Cross Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:52 PM (#2071507)
yuck. terrible at bat.

I wouldn't trade Reyes for Cano if they threw in Jeter too.

Especially not if they "threw in" Jeter. Wouldn't go near that contract. Also, Reyes is better.
   86. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:54 PM (#2071510)
Let's go Heath Crunch.
   87. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:54 PM (#2071511)
I THOUGHT THAT SOLER WAS GETTING ANOTHER INNING.

####, this game is just pissing me off something fierce.
   88. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:55 PM (#2071514)
Delgado should have scored on that double by Wright. That's the same play that Milledge got in trouble for. Reyes is at .282/.346/.472 on the season. That's awesome.
   89. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:56 PM (#2071517)
God, I can't wait for Cliff Floyd to get back. The really interesting question will be whether Endy Chavez stays in the line-up, and if so how often.
   90. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:56 PM (#2071518)
I don't get it either Banta. He'll use Heath for just one inning because he will be due up to bat in the sixth.
   91. Free Rob Base Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2071521)
All is not lost -- they kept Mays in. At some point the runs will come.
   92. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2071525)
Heath is bringing it. 96 mph.
   93. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:58 PM (#2071529)
Delgado should have scored on that double by Wright. That's the same play that Milledge got in trouble for.

Delgado has an excuse. He's SLOW. Did you see him slowing down to keep checking out the play in the outfield? I didn't, but I wasn't watching all that closely.
   94. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2071533)
He did, Sam. They showed it on a replay.
   95. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 21, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2071534)
Heath has looked better, you have to admit.
   96. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2071535)
He'll use Heath for just one inning because he will be due up to bat in the sixth.

What's wrong with Bell for an inning? Talk about the proper use of an asset . . . .
   97. AJM Posted: June 21, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2071536)
He'll use Heath for just one inning because he will be due up to bat in the sixth.

I think someone needs to give Willie the basics on double switching.
   98. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 21, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2071537)
Did you see him slowing down to keep checking out the play in the outfield?
YES. Unfortunately, you're right. Delgado is so slow, he may not have scored anyway.
   99. Banta Posted: June 21, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2071544)
I don't have a problem with only throwing Bell for an inning. I just really think that Soler could go another inning. He was at 99 pitches, that's not a ton.

I wonder if they're trying to build up his arm strength since he was out of baseball for a little bit. Because they seem less likely to use him for extended pitch counts than any other pitcher this side of Pedro.
   100. Sam M. Posted: June 21, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2071547)
He did, Sam. They showed it on a replay.

Well, it's good there's a day game tomorrow, then. We can all watch to see what time Delgado reports to the ballpark. ;-)
