Yea we get to faced an overhyped prospect today.
   2. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2763045)
Trivia question they just asked. Who was the last Cardinal to lead the league in complete games. I should have known this one, but I had forgotten even though it was a bogus tie with another guy.
   3. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2763048)
The answer was Carpenter in 2005 he "tied" with Dontrelle Willis, the only problem is that his tie with Dontrelle included a five inning complete game shutout for Dontrelle.
   4. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2763120)
No Ludwick again, I guess his recent struggles keep him out of the lineup.
   5. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2763167)
Ok, Corey Patterson with a blast to the outfield for a single, by blast I mean it's equal in distance to two of Isturis batted balls, so about 100 feet.
   6. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2763185)
Two on, no outs the Kid is up to bat and a full count now.

yep Joel you are really earning your cardinal jersey, we need to bring in Reyes or Thompson and a double steal as Molina again doesn't make a good throw.
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2763193)
Uggh you are kidding me, they just said statistically speaking Phillips is the most dangerous player in the lineup. Umm Edwin Encarnacion and Bako both must not be playing.

Hahahahahaha. that was totally horrible. What in the world were the reds thinking. you camp your ass on the bag in that situation and let the ump tell you who's out. Thank god they don't teach baseball anymore.
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2763200)
Keppinger played that stupid, and the Cardinals prove themselves again as a horrible team at performing the rundown. They threw the ball too often, got lucky and they didn't mess it up.

Now the funny thing is that Schumaker was involved in that rundown, if we were the Yankees and Jeter was playing in the outfield and got involved in the same play they would praise his greatness for being aware of the game and getting involved, and then show that play ad nauseum on espn for play of the year even though it was totally routine.
   9. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2763214)
Nice start to the game, but with the way Joel is playing not sure that it's going to be enough.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2763223)
Bako just missed a ball to advance the runner, oops they called it a wild pitch.

Glaus just drove in Ankiel to make it 3-0 and for a guy who can't hit a homerun to save his life, Glaus has figured out how to hit the gap nearly at will.
   11. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2763236)
Molina with a speedy double.
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2763246)
good camera angle to show Oquendos coaching. He was signalling glaus to score up until glaus reached third then changed his mind and positioned himself in perfect position to stop glaus.
   13. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2763272)
hey everybody! ... er ... oh. hey cfb!
   14. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2763276)
did you see any of the games this weekend? i went to the dodger game friday night, then was outside almost the entire weekend.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2763281)
Ankiel needs to position himself better for throwing out runners.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2763285)
didn't see much this weekend, work, work, work.
   17. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2763294)
too bad. the dodger game was a corker, 8-7 dodgers in the 13th. my gf tried to get me to leave a bunch of times ... but we hung on. lots of hits and stuff. the fans are really booing the sh!t out of andruw jones.
   18. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2763298)
what is izturis doing in a uniform? cripes.
   19. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2763304)
Schu with another multi hit game, not bad to have multiple hits in the second inning. I just picked him up on my fantasy league team because I suck at runs scored and he had 20 already this season.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2763308)
I've been to 7(?) games in Dodger stadium, nice place not the best stadium, but still nice place, hate where it's situated though only one way in or out of the stadium, just seems silly.
   21. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2763312)
what is izturis doing in a uniform? cripes.

I think most people have been asking that question for several years.
   22. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2763318)
Kennedy with a base hit. Two on for Albert, should be interesting his first at bat was a deep fly to dead center.

damn albert, quit swinging at the first pitch, I don't think you have hit one well at all this year.
   23. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2763319)
???? there are multiple entrances. even so, the traffic can be tough. it has a lot to do with the late arrival of fans. i always sneak in through sunset via beverly blvd. ... it isn't too bad. i have to say, i love dodger stadium. but its mostly because of how pretty the setting is.
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2763324)
Ankiel with another rbi, Schu with a run, and unlike yesterday where the Reds were making all the defensive plays today the results have been a little different.
   25. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2763327)
only two players have won 10 games as a pitcher in a season, and hit 10 home runs in a season. babe ruth is one, bet we know the other one. the announcers were just talking about it.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2763335)
another gap double for Glaus...oops I mean triple..oops I mean inside the parker....
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2763337)
If they are meaning in different seasons, then that seems obvious.
   28. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2763345)
wow!!! i saw your post just when he hit the ball. did you see how the ball slipped out of the fielders hand?
   29. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2763353)
has anyone ever won 10 games as a pitcher and hit 10 homers in a season? did ruth ever do it?
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2763354)
not until the replay... Dunn screwed that up, funny part is that the announcers just got done reading Oquendos assessment of the Reds outfielders and it said "above average arms for Dunn, Griffey and Patterson" then that play happened.
   31. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2763359)
I'm sure ruth did it, I think he hit 19 hrs in a season as apitcher.
   32. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2763360)
well, i guess it means they have a good arm when they have a grip on the ball!
:-)
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2763370)
ok after cheating, ruth hit 11 in 1918, and won 13 games but he also played 59 as an outfielder.

drysdale hit 7 twice in a season.
   34. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2763374)
ruth went 13-7 with 11 hr in 1918, then 9-5 with 29 the next year. so he only did it same season once.
   35. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2763375)
Matt Morris is going to announce his retirement probably tonite?

Why would he do that, yes it saves the Pirates money but I mean why doesn't he try to relief or something.
   36. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2763378)
collusion!!!
   37. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2763383)
with a little more cheating Wes Ferrel had 9 hrs, while winning 22.
   38. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2763386)
From what the announcers were saying, the Pirates still have to pay Matt his money. I guess since they released him they owe him no matter what, or it's possible the Cardinal announcers don't know what they are talking about.
   39. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2763410)
Ok, I'm here - damn, Cueto not as good as advertised.

I think the Bucs still have to pay Morris since they cut him.
   40. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2763426)
i liked him, hope he gets all his $$$. but i'm glad we got rid of him when we did.
   41. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2763430)
wait ... he signed with pirates as a FA, didn't he? so i'm glad we didn't hang on to him.
   42. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2763441)
Morris? Signed with the Giants, who shipped him to the Pirates.
   43. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2763449)
he was traded to the pirates from the giants, he signed with the giants as a free agent, the Cardinals had worked out a deal where we would have traded for him and took on about half his salary when the brilliance that is the Pirates ownership group got into the discussion and somehow agreed to take on all the salary.

Dumb move, glad we didn't make the deal, but I still held out hope he would end up with 200+ wins.
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2763458)
Ok albert doen't swing at the first pitch.

ok, it was a good pitch maybe you should have swung :)
   45. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2763461)
ah. i must have been asleep for most of that. bases jacked for albert!
   46. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2763470)
everybody is mixed up on the count in the announcing booth. they weren't sure if the first pitch was a ball ...
   47. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2763473)
damn another high infield popup, Hey Albert can't hit is driving the ball better than you today.
   48. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2763475)
dang!
   49. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2763477)
well, even without offense from albert, i think we are doing okay. i'm off to the gym ...

have a nice night, guys.
   50. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2763478)
the first pitch was a strike, the second pitch was a ball even though it was pretty much exactly the same pitch as the first and third(which was a ball also)

the stadium was listing it as 1-2 when the actual count was 2-1.
   51. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2763491)
one year anniversary of Hancocks death.
   52. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2763493)
Damn, Pujols 0-3, marking his worst game of the season so far...
   53. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2763500)
Yeah, I think this game is not in much doubt. Barring something really crazy.
   54. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2763537)
Pinero with another kick save, it's his third one as a cardinal.
   55. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:42 PM (#2763546)
He had a nice one last start.

So far, so good.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2763553)
Ankiel had a triple if he was looking at his third base coach, instead of just a double.
   57. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2763563)
Frank Thomas had a triple last night?
   58. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2763584)
Really? Wow. Must have been his first in a while.
   59. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2763586)
Can't believe Dusty pulls Votto this early.
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2763633)
They said that among the 500 homerun club, Frank Thomas has the second fewest triples with Big Macs 6 being the worse of the group.

Anyone get a chance to see Glaus's hit(the double 2 bag error on Dunn) should watch Corey Patterson just standing there, it's a good thing that Baker got a veteran to not pull rookie mistakes.
   61. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2763686)
Yawn....this game has been boring. I just got GTA, too....I may be done.
   62. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2763691)
didn't really realize that Joel had a one hitter going, they did mention it but I wasn't really paying attention. considering how the game started and how poorly joel looked in the early going I just assumed multiple hit game.

and Schumaker just saved a hit.
   63. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2763713)
Schu with a four hit day, although that could be called an error.

It is so funny, yesterday the Reds couldn't make a mistake defensively, in fact they made multiple very good plays. Today they can't do anything right defensively.
   64. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2763738)
Albert has reached base in every game this year, which is crazy. Albert is ####### AWESOME.
   65. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2763740)
Albert reached base again, has reached base in every game this season.
   66. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2763743)
The year that dimaggio had the hitting streak I believe that Ted Williams actually had a longer reach base streak, I may be(and probably am) wrong on this, but that is what I remember reading.
   67. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2763746)
ok, thanks to wiki it wasn't the same year as Dimaggio, but Ted Williams reached 84 times in 1949.
   68. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2763751)
Albert only has 56 games to go! That's a lot....
   69. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2763752)
I'm pretty sure that Frank Thomas has come close (by close I mean something like 50+ games)
   70. Guts Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2763755)
####, Dunn breaks up the shutout.
   71. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2763757)
thats the game... we win after a dunn homer. 7-2
   72. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2763763)
ok, maybe it wasn't thomas, McGwire had 62 games reaching safely over two seasons, Bonds in 2003 had 58....think about that, Bonds hasn't really come close to that record.
   73. cardsfanboy Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2763766)
(ok, for the record the lists I'm looking at quits in 2003 so Bonds may have made it since then)
