Pelfrey should be fined by the kangaroo court -- $50 for each hit he gives up beyond three. Loser.

Honestly, it is amazing how much progress Pelfrey has made. I will always remember the spring training game where he absolutely got destroyed by the Cardinals scrubs.

What's the difference in Pelfrey? Just throwing strikes?
   104. Sam M. Posted: July 13, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2855454)
Throwing strikes, and being willing to throw his "other" fastball, not just the sinker. He really has two fastballs to mix up now, and it really helps keep the hitters off balance.

Pelfrey has such movement on his two-seamer that he was falling behind with it. So he decided to start throwing his harder 4-seamer more often to get ahead. He has been getting ahead which allows him to use his sinker as a strikeout pitch, and allows him to get some strikeouts on his average slider.

Well, um, he should have tried that earier.

The wave. I love it.

So, if the post-season were to start next week, and the Mets made it, what would you do for the rotation? I have to say, for me it would be:

Santana
Pelfrey
Perez
Maine

Well, um, he should have tried that earier.

You know, Pelfrey barely pitched in the high minors. He has only 82 IP above AA ball. The Mets rushed him and the results weren't pretty. It happens.

Looking like a complete game for Pelfrey. Tonight may be his best start ever.
   112. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2855477)
Pelfrey is pumping it at 96 in the 8th inning. Yikes.
   113. Sam M. Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2855478)
High heat to this guy. Can't handle it. But he can the low stuff.
   114. Sam M. Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2855480)
Finally, a foul ball OUT.
   115. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2855483)
I'd probably take Pelfrey out here.
   116. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2855484)
LET'S GO PELFREY clap clap clapclapclap
   117. Sam M. Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2855485)
Beautiful. Great performance -- yet another one, from this kid. Gotta love it.

Pelfrey is awesome.
   119. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2855487)
I get chills when they play that song.
   120. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2855488)
That was ever so totally awesome!
   121. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2855489)
Another great start. Way to go, Pelf.

3.64 ERA on the season. Not bad AT ALL.
   122. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2855491)
One of the best things about the winning streak is that the mood has really shifted at Shea - much louder, more positive, not as much waiting for something bad to happen.

What song?
   124. Sam M. Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2855494)
3.64 ERA on the season. Not bad AT ALL.

That translates into about a 110 ERA+, I'd guess. Amazing, considering where he was before his last six starts.
   125. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2855497)
"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. It's what they played after Endy's catch.

I've always been partial to "Fat Bottomed Girls", but I can understand...
   127. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2855502)
If the Mets can close this one out, it'd be their 4th shutout in their last six games. That's impressive.

Is the turnaround in any way due to the firing of Rick Peterson, for Pelfrey?

Pelfrey had started to pitch better before the Jacket got fired. It's hard to say as he really hasn't done anything drastic with Pelfrey.
   130. Raskolnikov Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2855511)
The most obvious difference to me is that Pelfrey is getting ahead of hitters. It seems like he's 0-1 on every hitter now. Before, he would fall behind 2-0 on every hitter. That and now he lives in the bottom third of the zone, where he belongs. He used to pitch in the middle of the zone way too often.
   131. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 13, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2855517)
1 earned allowed in his last 3 starts.
   132. AJM Posted: July 13, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2855526)
Pelfrey has now pitched 108.2 innings this year and has allowed 4 homers. 0 in his last 55.2. And a 2.61 ERA in his last 8 starts.
   133. AJM Posted: July 13, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2855527)
Err, make that 0 in his last 63.2 and a 2.26 ERA in his last 9 starts.
   134. Lassus Posted: July 13, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2855553)
I know no one's here anymore but I was at the game tonight. Pelfrey was awesome, and the crowd BOOED Joe Smith because he wasn't Mike Peflrey coming back out to finish. And I'm not sure if they showed it on ESPN but he got a curtain call.
   135. villainx Posted: July 14, 2008 at 02:32 AM (#2855628)
I was at the game too. It was fun. The Rocks are a team the Mets should beat up on, and it happened. Very nice.

Thanks for the Pelfrey feedback.
