No. 31 should be reserved for pitchers who don't suck, Brad.
   2. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 03:36 PM (#2190592)
One inning and pulled for a pinch-hitter? Hahaha!

Well, now, let's see if they actually do it after the grand slam.
   3. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 03:36 PM (#2190594)
And they do.
   4. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 28, 2006 at 03:54 PM (#2190609)
Is Penny hurt or something?
   5. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:00 PM (#2190619)
Just sucky, it would seem.
   6. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:00 PM (#2190621)
Ineffectiveness, Patrick. Penny let the first 5 hitters get on including a 3-run HR, then loaded the bases before striking out BK Kim.

Now BK is out after loading the bases himself. This has potential to be a very insane game.
   7. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:03 PM (#2190624)
Potential, hell, looks to me like it's there already.
   8. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:03 PM (#2190625)
He was safe, but it was a stupid risk with the bases loaded and nobody out.
   9. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:08 PM (#2190631)
I am vexed. This vexes me.

I thought the Rockies were supposed to actually win games at home. My bad.
   10. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:16 PM (#2190636)
It's not insane unless a meaningless brawl breaks out.

Rockies PH for two different pitchers in the first 3 innings....
   11. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#2190652)
So...are they just gonna leave Billingsley in there to blow it completely? Six straight batters have reached base.
   12. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#2190653)
Stiffness in the lower back for Penny according to AP.
   13. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:42 PM (#2190655)
Vinny Castilla sighting.... as the go-ahead run. He gets a clutch pinch-hit... in the 4th. Sele in to pitch. Edging closer to insanity!
   14. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:44 PM (#2190658)
There is a shitload of overmanaging happening in this game.
   15. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:45 PM (#2190659)
Whoops, Grady faked me out. It's Beimel.
   16. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:46 PM (#2190661)
Grady Little should probably be fired.
   17. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:50 PM (#2190663)
Wow these games are quite insane...
   18. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:50 PM (#2190664)
And the Phillies clubhouse rejoices!
   19. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:53 PM (#2190667)
Why overmanaging, Matt? I find it hard to criticize yanking pitchers after said pitchers have proven they're not going to get guys out today.

Now comes Sele, pitcher #4... 10-8 Rox.
   20. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 04:57 PM (#2190672)
I take it they ran out of humidor balls?
   21. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:05 PM (#2190675)
This game is two hours old. My god.
   22. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:10 PM (#2190682)
Halfway home, Nomar and Mike F. Venafro have made appearances. Where is Manny Mota?

Mark Hendrickson in, pitcher #5.
   23. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2190685)
Nine pitchers and five pinch hitters already.
   24. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#2190700)
Burger King, pitcher #6 for COL ... surrenders back-to-backs to noted sluggers Kenny Lofton & Marlon Anderson. Aw geez.
   25. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#2190711)
Oh that's a shame. If he triples instead of homers, he has the cycle.

It took the Dodgers all of 1.1 innings to get back the 7 they gave up in the 4th -- plus one.

Coors baseball. Nothing like it.
   26. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:40 PM (#2190715)
And another spectacular Joe Table performance --

Double, Double, Homer
   27. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2190716)
James Loney now has a 9-RBI day, tying Gil Hodges for the franchise record!?

Jose Mesa (pitcher #6 for COL) appears to be toast. Coors was waiting until the last week of the season to pounce on his stuff....
   28. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2190717)
For an ERA of . . . Infinity
   29. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#2190720)
So after all that, the Dodgers of course let the pitcher hit . . . and he walks.

Are the Rockies' pitchers even trying?
   30. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2190722)
So the reliever comes in, and immediately walks the first two batters

-- and that represents a decided improvement over the how the last two relievers started out!
   31. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#2190724)
Jeremy Affeldt (pitcher #7). The worst pitcher other than Mesa must be the guy who comes in to bail out Mesa.

Through the legs of Atkins..... 17-10 Raiders.
   32. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2190731)
That's appropriate, 'cause the last time the Raiders scored 17, they were still in LA.
   33. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2190751)
Nice zing, GM.

Denny Bautista (pitcher #8, I think.... lost count a few hours ago) pitches to Loney.
   34. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 06:33 PM (#2190761)
I guess Hendrickson gets the win if the Dodgers hang on? Him or Tomko ...
   35. Greg Franklin Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2190800)
Right you are, Red. It is over.
   36. Baseballing powerhouse Crispix Attacks Posted: September 29, 2006 at 01:58 AM (#2191210)
When your starting pitcher is the worst Korean player in baseball, and your leadoff hitter is the worst Japanese player in baseball, you're lucky to give up 17 runs.
