Big stretch of home games coming up. Time for the offense to keep its head out of its ass.

Edmonds's knee has been bothering him, hopefully it's nothing major. And since Wood couldn't throw yesterday, they've completely wasted what could have been his DL time.

dear carlos, please no hit them
dear cubs batters, hit everything to uggla

It would be nice to have some wins aginst Florida this year.
   4. Cabbage Posted: July 24, 2008 at 04:48 PM (#2871753)
I'll be somewhere in the upper deck tonight (Section 420ish?)

My first live game of the season, and a last hurrah with little bro & pops before my upcoming wedding.
   5. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 05:03 PM (#2871779)
My condolences Cabbage on your upcoming nuptials.
   6. Bunny Vincennes Posted: July 24, 2008 at 05:11 PM (#2871788)
It should be a great night for baseball, Cabbage, good for you. As long as Z does his part, and the bats stay alive, it should be a fun night.

Especially if Dad is buying the beer!
   8. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 06:58 PM (#2871847)
Go Cubs!
   9. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:07 PM (#2871882)
They put Woody on the DL and didn't replace him tonight. That is odd.
   10. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:14 PM (#2871888)
A friend and her dad are attending in my stead tonight, as retro-pooch begins his convalescence. He's quite pathetic at the moment. I'm a crusty old feck when it comes to kids and marriage and such, but animals suffering always gets to me.
   11. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2871891)
I can be a softy that way myself. In fact, I think that is how my 8 year old daughter gets everything she wants.
   12. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2871894)
Yeah, I hear ya.

Buster's really, really not gonna like 2 weeks without getting on the furniture or playing, while wearing the Elizabethan collar.
   13. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2871926)
Well it is a pain in the ass not being able to lick your own balls.
   14. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2871929)
Cedano with a little pop!
   15. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2871937)
Nice little swing there from Soriano.
   16. Sweet Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2871964)
Looks like Zambrano's kind of short-arming the ball again (though not as badly as at the ASG), and his velocity's down. He's getting by, but I'm a little concerned.
   17. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2871970)
Big Z comes through with a double!
   18. Sweet Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2871971)
His bat, on the other hand, is on fire. Love it.
   19. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2871975)
Don't mind seeing them do the IBB here.
   20. Carl Spongberg Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2871977)
Carlos Zambrano is the greatest basball player in the history of ever.
   21. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2871980)
If they're looking at this year's situational numbers in deciding to walk Soriano, they are ####### idiots.
   22. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2871992)
Lee with a good eye there! Patience is starting to come back to the lineup.
   23. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2871996)
That was a very ugly slide attempt. Oh well, nice to see Aramis driving the ball even if it took some bad outfielding to get it down.
   24. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2871997)
That was an ugly slide by DLee, he might have been better off running over the catcher.
   25. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2871998)
Get out of my mind Ryan.
   26. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2872001)
Scott Olsen's a d-bag.
   27. Sweet Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2872002)
Going into this game:

Aramis at home: .338/.478/.613
Aramis on road: .209/.256/.372

So . . . he's Albert Pujols at home, and Neifi Perez on the road. Baseball is so weird.
   28. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2872023)
Blanco with power!
   29. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2872024)
I like Henry Blanco.

He hits home runs for the Cubs.
   30. Sweet Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2872027)
HANK WHITE!

Watch out Soto . . . .
   31. A Surfeit of Peaches Graham (SdeB) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2872028)
Blanco!!!
   32. Sweet Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2872032)
Hope Z's on a short leash here. Heading north of 120 pitches.
   33. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2872046)
Man, Styx gets a better response at Oak Lawn family days.
   34. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2872047)
Well, Oak Lawn family days is probably closer to their target audience.
   35. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2872048)
Look kids, a mediocre band who cursed the world with Mr. Roboto.
   36. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2872050)
I always hated Styx.
   37. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2872056)
Styx without Dennis DeYoung is like Journey without Steve Perry. Even crappier then the original.
   38. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2872059)
Easy retro, you're getting close to accusing me of being a Styx fan.
   39. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2872063)
Not that I'm from Oak Lawn, mind you, but still, dangerously close.
   40. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2872066)
I still loving the video of George Brett going ape #### during the Pine Tar game.
   41. A Surfeit of Peaches Graham (SdeB) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2872067)
Mr. Roboto is cool.
   42. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2872069)
And if I can continue to focus on the stupid, that 7th inning interview was terrible.
   43. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2872072)
SDeb, did you live through the 70s? No way you would say that if you did.
   44. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2872073)
Soriano hates that wall.
   45. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2872080)
So Howry is the guy we want in this situation, eh? Yikes.
   46. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2872082)
Real nice throw by DeRosa there.
   47. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2872083)
I don't know what Mr. Roboto is, but "cool" is about the last word I would use to describe it.

Good Styx songs: "Too Much Time On My Hands" and "Blue Collar Man". The rest should be burned to the ground and the earth salted so that nothing more comes forth from it.
   48. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2872085)
"Renegade"
   49. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2872086)
well #### Blanco.
   50. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2872087)
(throwing up in my mouth)
   51. BeanoCook Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2872089)
Though play.
   52. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2872090)
Nice job Mark, not sure the dive was needed, but that run was scoring anyway.
   53. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2872091)
Was anybody else under the impression Luis Gonzalez had retired?
   54. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2872092)
That was a hell of a catch by DeRo!
   55. BeanoCook Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2872093)
Holy ####
   56. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2872094)
DeRosa!
   57. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2872095)
Beano could you speak English?
   58. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2872100)
Was anybody else under the impression Luis Gonzalez had retired?

More or less, yes.
   59. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2872103)
Thanks Carlos.
   60. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2872104)
I don't care what people say about me, this I'm too sexy for my kia commercial actually makes me laugh a little.
   61. BeanoCook Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2872106)
I think the only difference between Brewers - Cubs is Marmol.

CSN says Cuban bid 1.3 Billion??
   63. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2872111)
Holy crap.
   64. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2872115)
Ya know Ramirez runs a lot better than he looks like he should, but he really shouldn't be getting sent on the basepaths.
   65. A Surfeit of Peaches Graham (SdeB) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2872116)

SDeb, did you live through the 70s? No way you would say that if you did.

I did. And I actually kind of like 70s music. Much better than any music since then.
   66. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2872127)
Canning is not one of the finalists. Wow. I will post this on Newsblog.
   67. Andere Richtingen is a Maverick Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2872129)
Already posted.
   68. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2872130)
It's already up, Andere.
   69. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2872132)
Apparently already on the newsblog. We've also landed on the moon guys.

What a weird time to do some goof TBS Sports-esque schtick.
   70. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2872145)
Real nice grab by Carlos there.
   71. BeanoCook Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2872161)
That was quite a pose by Braun on that go-ahead HR. TLR will file that away.
   72. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2872166)
It never comes easy, but Cubs win!
   73. Carl Spongberg Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2872169)
Thank you Cubs. Closing out that game was more stressful than it should have been.
   74. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2872180)
Comcast post game says it's Samardzija coming up.
   75. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2872182)
Sorry, man. Styx blows. Don't mean to associate you with 'em.
   76. SteveM. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2872203)
Friggin Cardinals. I wonder if they are about to start to fold after playing over their head in the 1st half.
   77. SouthSideRyan(hates Casey McGehee) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2872214)
Fun with arbitrary startpoints:

Cardinals since May 6th: 35-35
   78. retro-shiite Posted: July 25, 2008 at 01:00 AM (#2872336)
Friggin Cardinals. I wonder if they are about to start to fold after playing over their head in the 1st half.

I've sort of been expecting that all year and I've always been wrong, but I'd say they're about due for a downturn.
