Game of Larry’s Birthday: Kansas City Royals (2-5) at New York Yankees (4-4), 1:05 PM

KC: Bautista (0-0, 1.50)
NYY: Johnson (1-1, 2.40)

The Yankees beat the Red Sox last year on my birthday after losing the last three times.  They’re 16-10 overall on my birthday, with a chunk falling out of Yankee Stadium on my 21st birthday.

On the very day I was born, Ron Guidry won his first major league game.

But then I hope they get swept on the weekend!!!

Who cares what your favorite team did on your birthday? Do you think that's important to anyone but you? Boy, are you full of yourself.

Yanks are 15-17 favorites, that means they have a .762 chance of going to 17-10 on Lar-Lar's B-Day.

Why is this game at 1:05? Between the West Coast trip and this first homestand, I don't think there's been a night game at the usual 7:30-8:00 ET start time.

So, lemme see if I got this straight. Saturday looks to be Jaret Wright vs. Johan. Egads.

However, after some thought, it seems that Johan doesn't become Johan! typically until later in the year. So perhaps if Jaret Wright can pitch at some level > horrific (I know... I'm reaching) then the Yankees might be able to steal one on Saturday.

Not with this lineup:
Graffanino, DH
Grudzielanek, 2B
Brown, LF
Sanders, RF
Berroa, SS
Buck, C
Mientkiewicz, 1B
German, 3B
Costa, CF

Graffanino at DH?! Double-egads!

Buddy Bell sucks. Matt Stairs is 7-17 against the Unit in his career.

I liked the Graffanino pickup, but I should have figured Buddy would find a way to minimize his utility. Dear lord is that lineup awful.
   20. Vrhovnik Posted: April 13, 2006 at 12:42 PM (#1960480)
Bell is holding Stairs back as our strategic reserve.

Ugh... somebody shoot Joe.

CF - Damon
SS - Jeter
RF - Sheffield
3B - ARod
1B - Giambi
LF - Matsui
DH - Williams
2B - Cano
CA - Stinnett

WHY CARRY THREE CATCHERS IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO USE POSADA AS A DH!!?!?!?!

The Yanks are 13-7 on my birthday.

When the Yankees lose to that lineup today with Johnson pitching it is going to be even more frustrating then a normal lose to the Royals. Historically frustrating even...I wonder what the odds of the Royals winning this game are? 10%? 25%?

That is a surprisingly good Torre house money lineup. I was expecting at least a Crosby and maybe a Cairo as well.

doh, point is moot as bernie just got another month of playing time w/ that single.

From the rules

6.08
The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when...
(b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless
(1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter,
or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball; If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

Of course, this never gets enforced

Of course, this never gets enforced

you don't think it should be enforced though do you? I mean, in a situation where getting hit is unavoidable, i think flinching or self protection is not only natural, but the preffered response. I think the intent of the rule was to prevent guys from being awarded a base when they have a chance to avoid being hit and choose not to take it.

i would modify the rule to read

"the batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball, and the umpire determines that the batter would have been able to avoid the ball if he had done so"

The Phillies were in first for most of the season after sucking for a long time. It was the first time in a while that they won 80 some games. They've treaded water ever since. That was right around when I started really following baseball.

Matt and Trey don't like being compared to family guy. thus, when cartman was saying "don't compare me to family guy", that's them saying it. they hate fg for all the reasons expressed by the characters (the jokes don't connect to the plot).

i did some research after the first episode, and there are those who claim that family guy steals their jokes....but i think it's just a situation where these jokes are pretty routine, and have been done before. I don't think they proactively steal.

The interesting tie in to that is that South Park has been accused of stealing from the simpsons too, and there was the episode that basically said that Simpsons have been on for so long, that of course there is going to be overlap.

Seth (writer of family guy) has said the same thing when compared to the simpsons.
   92. Cowboy Popup Posted: April 13, 2006 at 02:42 PM (#1961013)
"Matt and Trey don't like being compared to family guy"

That's a pretty lame reason to start taking shots at a show. I mean, I'm not a huge family guy fan, but Seth Green also does Robot Chicken, which makes him a hero in my book. Seems to me that Matt and Trey have been alot more full of themselves in the last couple of years and for me it's made their work less enjoyable for me.

seems to my south park just ran out of ideas and i think matt and trey are a little frustrated with the fact that their series looks to be falling along the typical lifespan of a cartoon series.

ie -- south park didn't turn out to be the flintstones, the jetsons, or the simpsons.

The Simpsons also had a joke about Family Guy ripping off the Simpsons.

South Park and Family Guy have both appeared on the Simpsons, and Family Guy and the Simpsons have both appeared on South Park.

I didnt mean to start a South Park digression, but I thought the last 2 episodes were really damn funny, they wove together making fun of Family Guy, Comedy Central and the Muslim Cartoon thing really well IMHO.

On a game note, Bautista has really settled down this game hasa actually turned out to be interesting.

And why the hell is Proctor in? Is Johnson hurt? He was only at 87 pitches.

Oh boy now this game is really exciting.
