A matchup of key deadline acquisitions for these two wildcard contenders. Just ask Ed Wade.

How does the Brewer chatter always end up dead? This is an interesting team, its playing a team that recently went on a hot streak.

What are all of the Brewer fans jerking off to whats happening with the Jets? ; )

Love the intro shot of '82 Cooper hugging '82 Selig.

Why are folks discussing Sabathia for Cy or MVP? Silliness...
   5. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2907705)
This Sabathia/Sheets combo is completely overblown. They have won back to back starts exactly once.

Against Washington.

Sheets is doing his usual second half swoon.

As I predicted....

A real outfielder makes that catch....

That was a strike for Wolf.

Ump is looking to "even things up"....

Nice scoop by Prince....

Cameron slugging at home: .357

On the road: .613

Says he just cannot pick up the ball at Miller....

What a terrible swing.......
   13. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2907729)
Rivera is killing the ball and facing a lefty would be a good matchup.

Kendall's bat has completely died.

Yost's adamant refusal to play Rivera is just another in a long line of weird decisions....
   14. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2907731)
What a bullsh#t call. If he gives CC that pitch the Astros don't get another hit.....

Bouly does Mark look puffy. Gotta be 20 lbs heavier from his early days.....

Durham should look back. That was a terrible strike call.

Is this ump a relative of Wolf?

Don't tell Gary Sheffield about Yount/Molitor.

Hall finally with a solid throw....
   20. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2907752)
See, that pitch to Pence has been a strike for Wolf.

Kendall is chirping to the ump....
   21. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2907768)
Nice patience by Prince.
   22. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2907769)
Hey Harvey -

I know that I'm a Mets fan and not really objective, but....

Does Phillips sound like a complete tool to non-mets fans as well?

Prince was my #1 round draft pick this year in my fantasy draft.
   23. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2907771)
Is anyone watching Corey? Just served it into center.
   24. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2907775)
Nice slide. I wonder if that kind of move in the old days would have been seen as cheap?
   25. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2907777)
Phillips makes some legit points, talks about OPS and doesn't mindlessly state common memes.

So he's ok....
   26. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2907780)
Lassus:

Nope. The old Brewers and Twins did it all the time.

Billy Martin's teams save for the Yanks...
   27. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2907782)
Walk Kendall to get to Sabathia?

Is that really a good idea?
   28. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2907784)
Hart was very fortunate Erstad's throw was wide. Just encourages more blunders by Hart.
   29. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:19 PM (#2907787)
CC!!!!!!!
   30. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:19 PM (#2907788)
Astros had 2 cracks to wipe out Hart, I guess that's why they are two games over.
   31. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2907789)
Guess not.

Good throw would have had Hart there, I think. Looked like a questionable send but it worked.
   32. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2907791)
nice work by CC. He loves pulling the ball, good to see him take that the other way.
   33. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2907793)
Yost encourages wild abandon the bases. Hart is going to run no matter what...
   34. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2907794)
Ooh, don't want to see that again. CC get up!
   35. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2907797)
Sabathia sliding seems scary for you guys.
   36. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2907798)
He's a yardsale on the bases.
   37. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2907799)
Almost certain CC struggles next inning. He's gassed....
   38. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2907803)
Walking Kendall to face CC reminded me of the folks who would walk the Dodger in front of Fernando.
   39. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2907806)
beautiful JJ.
   40. mrams Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2907807)
Heh. I miss Fernando.
   41. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2907808)
This works.

Take some pitches Ryan....
   42. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2907809)
Nice inning for you guys. And no homers even!
   43. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2907813)
Talk about dropping the head of the bat on the ball.
   44. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2907816)
I was afraid of this. He needed time to gather himself....
   45. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2907822)
Good work Ray. Weeks would have forced it.
   46. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2907824)
Phillips is stealing my lines!
   47. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2907828)
I wish that the Baseball Tonight guys had been there when Phillips was commenting on the pitchers. They never pass up an opportunity to make fun of him over Kazmir.
   48. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2907834)
Can someone take some pitches for the big guy??
   49. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2907842)
I really hope Ned isn't in bound and determined to get 130 pitches out of CC.
   50. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:49 PM (#2907843)
Damn that was a rocket by Ty.
   51. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2907846)
Walking a guy with an OBP under .300?

Sigh...
   52. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2907848)
JR House? He's still around?
   53. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2907858)
I think the Astros plan is to wear CC out on the bases.
   54. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2907862)
Big Puma played that like a cat toy....
   55. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2907865)
That was the craziest swing this season.

And this with a team that plays Russell Branyan and Ben Sheets.....
   56. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2907871)
Quintero is a real boxer back there.
   57. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2907876)
Braun out.... interesting.
   58. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2907879)
Cripes, not the back again.....

Tejada's been quite the bust after May, hasn't he?
   62. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2907887)
Corey remains hot. Smoked that cheesy fastball.
   63. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2907889)
Spare me the "Yost is a big Corey fan" bullsh#t. Yost wanted to keep playing Mench if not for orders upstairs.
   64. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2907899)
Odd to say, but that quick inning may have been bad for Sabathia. I can see Yost wanting to get him a CG now, and wind up stretching him to 130 pitches for no apparent reason.
   65. Posada Posse Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2907900)
111 pitches through 8. I wouldn't send him out there either.
   66. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2907901)
Ray has so much better at bats than Rickie it's not funny.

Light years apart...
   67. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2907902)
I wouldn't have sent him out there for the 8th. You're up by 6 in the 8th, go to the last men in the pen and let him close it out.
   68. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2907903)
CC will pitch the ninth. Yost is all about putting personal goals over long-term planning.
   69. Posada Posse Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2907905)
Exactly.
   70. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2907908)
Villanueva gave up a game-winning homer yeasterday. Everbody has pitched the past three games. Torres might have a strain. Mota and Gagne stink.

It's pretty much McClung.
   71. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2907911)
Asmus? Oh cripes. He killed the Crew the last series in Milwaukee.

Humiliating.

That wasn't a strike 3 innings ago.
   72. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2907912)
For Pete's sake JJ!!
   73. Posada Posse Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2907914)
Mota and Gagne stink.

Stick 'em in there, it's a 7 run lead.

Bases loaded, interesting.
   74. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2907915)
This is so sad. Basic plays for a major leaguer.

Absolutely pitiful...
   75. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2907916)
Thought for a minute Corey lost it in the lights.

That has happened before....
   76. 1k5v3L Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2907917)
The way Yost is working CC, won't be shocked if he's cooked again come playoff time
   77. 1k5v3L Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2907919)
Yost must be dumber than ten LaSordas
   78. 1k5v3L Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2907921)
Make that 100 LaSordas
   79. retro-shiite Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2907923)
I know CC's a horse and the Brewer pen kinda sucks, but why leave him out there for 120+ in a blowout?
   80. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2907924)
Correct.

So I will not lend much credence to the Cubs fans who will claim that their team "owns" CC after he gives up 6 runs in mid-September to them.

He will be spent...
   81. Posada Posse Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2907925)
It's a joke.
   82. Lassus Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2907926)
MAN Sabathia looked totally gassed walking around after the game.
   83. retro-shiite Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2907927)
So I will not lend much credence to the Cubs fans who will claim that their team "owns" CC after he gives up 6 runs in mid-September to them.

If that comes to pass, I will not claim "ownership" of CC, nor will I care if their hitting him results from "ownership" of him or from his being tired.
   84. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2907930)
Yost only knows extremes. Last year he had his "plan" of repeatedly pulling starters after 6 innings.

Now it's pitch'em tell they drop, especially CC.

Sigh....
   85. retro-shiite Posted: August 18, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2907931)
stretching him to 130 pitches

Bullseye.

retro:

I would appreciate a bit of backup every time some 16 year old know it all wanders into a Brewer thread and brands me a Yost hater.

This type of stuff is bizarre.

And I end up getting lectured.....
   88. Rembrandt Q Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2907937)
Ok, that actually made me angry. Everyone pretty much agrees Sabathia wore down in the playoffs last year after a 3581 pitch season. After today, he's sitting around 2950 with 7-8 starts left. WTF? He should have never gone out for the ninth. Failing that, he should have been out after the first hit in the ninth. I can't wait to listen to this post-game audio.
   89. Rembrandt Q Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2907939)
And Lassus is right. He had a murderdeathkill look on his face as Hall was firing to first for the final out.
   90. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2907940)
Braun hurt his back already?

Has all the signs of a chronic issue if he can't even swing the bat in a routine manner without risk.

Rats....

ESPN says that's why he left the game, not good news.
   92. BeanoCook Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2907945)
I don't think this is a sign of a chronic injury. Usually you have to let it heal once, ONCE, before we can label it chronic. I think Braun convinced the trainers and Yost he was good to go, the HR yesterday was "proof". I think we can say now, Braun never healed and from an injury that usually requires 3 weeks or more. Get him on the DL now.
   93. Rembrandt Q Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2907947)
Not surprised re: Braun. Disabled List Informer wrote this about his injury:

   94. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2907949)
What's CC's workload generally been like? I know he's as a house and the Brewers are just trying to get their money's worth, but I'd imagine routinely running a guy out there for 110-120+ pitches each time out has gotta eventually catch up with you.

To me, tonight was inexcusable. He closed things down, but the game was realistically not much of a contest after the midway point. If you can't trust your pen to go and get your six or so outs in a blowout game against a .500 team, then what does that say?

I'd only be grinding out every pitch from CC if it were a tight game, but tonight's situation was nothing close. It only got that way near the end because he was running on fumes by time the ninth rolled around.
   95. Rembrandt Q Posted: August 18, 2008 at 11:38 PM (#2907980)
According to the post-game news conference, they let CC work deeper because he has five days until his next start. Of course he has another six days after that, so I fully expect 145 pitches on Sunday.
   96. retro-shiite Posted: August 19, 2008 at 03:14 PM (#2908576)
I would appreciate a bit of backup every time some 16 year old know it all wanders into a Brewer thread and brands me a Yost hater.

Hey, man, you know I've got your back, as long as it doesn't involve rooting for the Brewers. (At least, as long as the Brewers are the Cubs' primary competition.)
