Also, Pelfrey and Park will be competing with each other for a spot when Duqu comes back.
Of course, I expect Park to get lit up something fierce tonight and then we'll be seeing Jorge Sosa for the next turn in the rotation (I think we'd all like to see Vargas, but I think Sosa will come first).
Am I the only one not really concerned about the Stache and Duque injuries? They hurt a little bit, but I really don't think this is anything to get too upset about.
The Stache news is much more troubling to me - the downgrade to Gotay/Easley is pretty significant. Plus "ACL injury" sounds pretty ominous.
Ditto.
For the future, the kid Lagares down in low A looks promising.
I have faith in Easley. Is that a scary thing? I'm not sure how Easley/Gotay will fill the 2B gap for a month, but I don't think it's a big deal. The more important thing is that Park either does real well or real bad tonight.
I will argue this. I think Valentin is still going strong. I don't think he has the stamina to play 150+ games plus postseason games and still give us optimal production, but I see little if any drop-off in his abilities. He still has great range. He still can leg out triples and steal the occasional base. And he can still hit it well beyond the right field walls at Shea.
If we don't get A-Rod next year, and if there isn't a top notch 2Bman available, I'd be happy to go to war with Stache as our 2008 starting 2Bman.
SNY just said Stache will need a brace when he comes back. That ain't good.
Mlb.tv has Met announcers.
I like the O-Dog, but i'm not sure if the DBacks see Callaspo in that role full-time in 2008.
Out of a second baseman, that's plenty useful.
Perfect is going too far. But a .368 OBP is really good for a middle infielder and his defense is very good, or at least it was. There aren't a lot of good 2b out there. Any suggestions?
Even when it's higher than his SLG?
Yes, I believe so. An average second baseman hits pretty poorly. I don't remember the exact numbers, but they aren't very good.
That said, I don't think I'd sign Castillo because if he loses his ability to hit around 300 (he'll be 32 next year), then he is pretty worthless.
I guess there aren't too many - but then the 2b would bat eighth, not second. I don't want a career OPS+ under 100 there. We'd give up some depth on O, but if we get our pitching questions answered, it'll be OK
Career OPS sort of undervalues Castillo because OPS+ undervalues OBP.
Blowduca's career OPS+ is 102. Just throwing that out there.
Checking:
Castillo EQA .265
Lo Duca EQA .263 (.277 2006)
I guess 2 2/3s was about all you could expect.
Well, this one's over.
In all seriousness, when are we allowed to get concerned about Delgado's slump? This is even worse than his rough patch last summer.
Come on, David.
It's funny how an offensive slump can put you in such a foul mood.
I really hope that Gotay gets more than 1/5th of the starts, like I fear he's going to.
They'll send him down if they decide not to give him another start. You need someone to start in AAA.
Sure, I'd listen if the Mets called.
Classic.
How the hell do you pitch to Hanley?
Don't suck Blow Duca.
