I've decided to stop with the reverse jinx. It was originally meant to spark the team and with a 7-1 record in their last 8 games, I think we can say the Mets are on fire. Whether they stay on fire or not depends entirely on them.
   2. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:09 PM (#2423826)
Wow, my Fox affiliate is actually carrying this game.
   3. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:36 PM (#2423851)
If the Mets can win today, they will have gone 12-15 in June. That's not bad at all, considering how they started.
   4. CrosbyBird Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:36 PM (#2423891)
A friend is kicking off his bachelor party with the 3:55 game in a private room at a bar. It's FOX, so I'm suggesting that we all do shots once a minute from the proposed 3:55 start time to the actual first pitch.

If you never hear from me again, I loved my family.
   5. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:57 PM (#2423941)
You better be alright, Reyes.
   6. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:58 PM (#2423945)
Reyes, you're the man. Ridiculous.
   7. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:00 PM (#2423947)
Blowduca, power hitter.
   8. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:01 PM (#2423949)
Welcome to the majors, Mr. Happ.
   9. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:02 PM (#2423952)
Welcome to the majors, Mr. Happ.
   10. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:02 PM (#2423953)
Well, this is off to a great start.
   11. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:03 PM (#2423957)
That pitch was really low. Wow.
   12. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:04 PM (#2423959)
On the bright side, Happ has yet to yield a triple.
   13. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:04 PM (#2423960)
Hopefully, Easley will rock this out of the park.
   14. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:04 PM (#2423961)
Delgado continuing his progress from yesterday.
   15. Srul Itza Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:05 PM (#2423964)
Somewhere along the line, somebody will have to make a comment about the Phillies Happless start.
   16. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:06 PM (#2423966)
I once went 0 for 2 in an inning and was on deck when the inning ended.

Just sayin.
   17. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:06 PM (#2423967)
About last night's discussion with Willie pulling ht epitcher - I believe the general attitude for a pitcher's last inning is - as long as no one reaches, you can keep going (after you reach the 8th/9th and 100 pitches).
   18. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:07 PM (#2423969)
You think Beltran can make all three outs? I'd like to see it.
   19. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:07 PM (#2423970)
Delgado got uncuffed from Andruw.
   20. Billy Wagner's tears Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:08 PM (#2423972)
I imagine CB and his crew changed that to every shot for every shot the Mets hit.
   21. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:08 PM (#2423973)
Despite the closeness of the race, the Mets are the only team in the division that has scored more runs than they have allowed.
   22. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:08 PM (#2423975)
No, I don't think it will happen. It just has that sort of feeling. I've never been so relieved to see a teammate ground out. Of course, the game was well in hand at that point.
   23. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2423977)
It started quickly, anyway.
   24. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2423978)
Happ may strike out the side.
   25. Sam M. Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2423979)
Meanwhile, here in Louisville, we are getting Milwaukee-Chicago, in which the Brewers are trying to (a) outshine the Mets for best first inning on Fox this afternoon, and (b0 build an even bigger lead to blow today than they did yesterday. Sigh.
   26. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2423980)
I hope the Phillies have the good sense to walk Gomez here.
   27. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:10 PM (#2423981)
I hope Gomez makes them pay - this isn't a good decision.
   28. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:11 PM (#2423984)
Sam, I haven't been in position to post alongside you in awhile, so it's late, but I just want you to know that I was really embarrassed about the final Louisville/Ok. St. game. Yikes.
   29. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:11 PM (#2423985)
Haha, and Happ strikes out the side. Interesting first major league inning.
   30. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:12 PM (#2423986)
Just too risky there. If Gomez hits a double, the game is out of hand.
   31. Srul Itza Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:12 PM (#2423988)
Actually, the kid didn't do too bad. Struck out the side. just a couple or 5 hiccups in between.
   32. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:14 PM (#2423991)
To be fair, the pitch to Wright wasn't that bad.
   33. Srul Itza Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:15 PM (#2423993)
That's 33 pitches in the first inning for the kid.

How rested is the Philly pen.

Oh, yeah.
   34. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:15 PM (#2423994)
Love groundouts like that. Maine was just awesome last night.
   35. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:16 PM (#2423995)
I thought the pitch to Wright was excellent. At least the results anyway.
   36. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:16 PM (#2423996)
Is it like 10 am where you are Srul?
   37. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:17 PM (#2423998)
Keep those sliders coming.
   38. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:17 PM (#2423999)
It is 10am in Hawaii, 1020pm in Kazan, Russia.
   39. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:17 PM (#2424000)
Should his nickname be Krystal or White Castle?
   40. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:18 PM (#2424002)
Who is in Kazan, Russia?
   41. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:18 PM (#2424003)
Quick, take a shower!
   42. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:18 PM (#2424005)
That's the part of the park where you want to give up flyballs to, Sosa.
   43. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:21 PM (#2424011)
Oops. It's after midnight in Kazan. Never mind. I thought it was cool the two places were 12 hours apart.
   44. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:22 PM (#2424012)
My wife is in Kazan tonight. She's part of a team running a relay around the world. She sounded tired.
   45. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:23 PM (#2424016)
What did Sosa do at the plate?
   46. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:24 PM (#2424017)
Did she have to run from W-S to Kazan? That hardly seems fair.
   47. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:24 PM (#2424018)
He struck out looking.
   48. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:24 PM (#2424020)
Sosa struck out looking.
   49. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:25 PM (#2424022)
Well, hard hit, but out. WHo needs a drink? Beer or vodka? Maybe Jack?
   50. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:25 PM (#2424024)
They started in New York and ran to Boston, then flew to Ireland. A few ferries, but more or less they've been running for a month now. Crazy people.

   51. Srul Itza Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:25 PM (#2424025)
Is it like 10 am where you are Srul?

Yup. Three hours difference from the West Coast, 6 hours from the East Coast.
   52. Srul Itza Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:27 PM (#2424028)
well, we gave him a pretty easy inning there. Mets need to push this kid, so they can get to the pen by the 6th.
   53. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:29 PM (#2424032)
I support water and water products.
   54. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:30 PM (#2424034)
Well, that's no good.
   55. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:30 PM (#2424035)
Buckle down, Sosa.
   56. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:30 PM (#2424036)
Yeah, I'm not sure how effective it her run will be, but I'm not supposed to say that.

By the way, if you're interested, I hear good things about Prague. Not so good things about Belarus.

Rough second inning.
   57. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:31 PM (#2424037)
I just remembered I have some Rochefort 10. So, the choice was quite easy.
   58. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:31 PM (#2424041)
Wow - how is Victorino not bunting here?
   59. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:32 PM (#2424042)
Sosa cannot find the strike zone. THat makes for a no fun game.
   60. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM (#2424044)
Oh, good lord. Looking like we're gonna see Sele in this one... I'm scared.
   61. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM (#2424047)
what do you guys think about the time for the end of the game? I'd say 7:45pm EDT
   62. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:35 PM (#2424048)
Well, FOX will contribute heavily to that, and I have 7 PM dinner reservations, so they need to pick up the pace.
   63. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:36 PM (#2424049)
Wright could have gone 5-2-3 on that, so that was annoying.
   64. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:36 PM (#2424050)
That's a huge DP!
   65. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:36 PM (#2424051)
So walk Chico here.
   66. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:37 PM (#2424053)
That's just horrible managing. Just ####### terrible.
   67. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:37 PM (#2424054)
Blah.
   68. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:37 PM (#2424055)
Who doesn't know there's a piutcher with 0 ML ABs on deck? Why give away that run? How ####### stupid.
   69. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:38 PM (#2424057)
I don't know how anyone can possibly defend that move. It's not trying to ####### succeed. It's stupid.
   70. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:39 PM (#2424060)
Maybe Willie was just copying what he saw from Philly in the first.
   71. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:42 PM (#2424064)
The biggest difference is that Willie already had the lead.
   72. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:42 PM (#2424065)
Way to take a few pitches, DWright.
   73. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:43 PM (#2424067)
I expect Happ to shut down the offense the rest of the way, because the Mets are maddeningly inconsistent.
   74. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:43 PM (#2424068)
Still about 19 pitches per inning.
   75. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:46 PM (#2424069)
He'll shut them down because I expect Sosa to get pounded and the Mets to pack it in.

Its so ####### inevitable, i'm done with this game. Root hard for me.
   76. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:46 PM (#2424070)
Why would we root for you?
   77. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:47 PM (#2424073)
Good announcing - "unable to make the catch"!
Good eyes, bonehead.
   78. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:47 PM (#2424076)
You're a character, Emad.

Great play, Beltran!!!
   79. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:48 PM (#2424077)
There's a couple of nice pitches from Sosa.
   80. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:48 PM (#2424078)
I don't know how anyone can possibly defend that move. It's not trying to ####### succeed. It's stupid.

Dial, the reason you do it is because if you can get Ruiz, not a great hitter, you likely get to face the dangerous part of Phillies; lineup with one out. Which is much better than facing them with none out. I know what you are facing and there are situations where you would have to walk Ruiz in that situation. But early in the game, I can understand the move.
   81. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:48 PM (#2424080)
Sosa looked very good in that PA.
   82. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:48 PM (#2424081)
This is how I like to see Utley. With no one on base.
   83. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:49 PM (#2424083)
That was a much better inning.
   84. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:50 PM (#2424085)
But early in the game, I can understand the move.

I know what the counterargument is. And fine, with a runner on first, or MAYBE second, you pitch to Ruiz. Not with a runner on third. He faced the top of the order with none out, and sat them down in order.

Taking that chance so they will score fewer runs in the next inning is a bad play.
   85. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:51 PM (#2424086)
I know what you are facing saying and there are situations where you would have to walk Ruiz in that situation.
   86. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:52 PM (#2424088)
And Sosa was struggling with his control, so it's a particularly bad move.
   87. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:52 PM (#2424089)
If he walks Ruiz, the score is 3-1 instead of 3-2.
   88. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:55 PM (#2424091)
Hindsight is 20/20, Dial.
   89. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:56 PM (#2424096)
Dial said it in advance though.
   90. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:56 PM (#2424097)
Hindsight is 20/20

And, yet, history repeats itself.

Contradictory cliches? I say yes.
   91. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:57 PM (#2424098)
Good, it's pissing out. I don't have to mow.
   92. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:00 PM (#2424102)
Gomez looks better every day. It's really encouraging.
   93. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:00 PM (#2424103)
Bad result, but Gomez has been working some nice counts lately.
   94. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:01 PM (#2424106)
Boot!
   95. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:01 PM (#2424107)
Okay, an error, but they're still the team to beat.
   96. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:01 PM (#2424108)
That's pretty awful, Rollins.
   97. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:01 PM (#2424109)
Hindsight is 20/20, Dial.

I wish I had said something before his hit...
   98. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:02 PM (#2424110)
That's an awfully high strike.
   99. Banta Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:03 PM (#2424111)
I thought that you had... well, I guess I just figured what you were thinking based on your earlier comment in the first.
   100. Chris Dial Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:03 PM (#2424112)
And Happ has had to work a lot this inning, so he only has one more in him.
