How critical is tonight's start, strictly from the psychological perspective of Mets fans? El Duque is our number 1 or 2- he ought to look like it tonight. He has for the month so far, that's for sure (2.39 ERA in Sept.)
   5. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 28, 2006 at 06:58 PM (#2190770)
Another 12-1 loss and i'll need a new television.

   7. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2190793)
Two walks is a nice way to start a game.
   8. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2190794)
Carlos Beltran, don't do that!

Even if it worked.
   9. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2190795)
Delgado! 3 run double!

This is obviously happening because I can actually watch this game because its on TBS.
   10. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2190798)
Hey look! Runs!
   11. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:08 PM (#2190801)
Reyes only 2 behind tying Cedeno for the Mets stolen base record!
   12. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:17 PM (#2190802)
I'll go out on a limb and say Francoeur will walk 50 times next year. The latent ability is there.
   13. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:18 PM (#2190803)
I like what Willie did with the rotation. Right decisions so far.
   14. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2190805)
Just able to log on. And wanted to say: if Jose Reyes had gotten hurt in that collision with McCann, I would personally have taken out a contract on Manny Acta. Talk about your heart-stopping moments . . . . Sheesh.
   15. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:27 PM (#2190806)
Ah, one last Bobby Cox ejection. Warms my heart, it does.
   16. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:28 PM (#2190808)
The Beltran bunt in the first inning bothers me. It's something he would do last year, when he knew that his legs weren't right.
   17. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:33 PM (#2190816)
The Beltran bunt in the first inning bothers me.

Nah. I think he just did it to try to break out a little bit. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

By the way, Reyes has now reached base (if I count correctly, always a dicey proposition) 256 times. Bernard Gilkey (1996) currently occupies 10th place on the Mets' all-time list, having reached 258 times that season. Reyes could catch Hernandez (1985) for 8th place with 262.

Ah, one last Bobby Cox ejection. Warms my heart, it does.

He's very close to McGraw's record.
   19. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2190833)
El Duque is pitching with great movement and his usual amazing variety of pitches, isn't he? But they sure are making him work for it . . . .
   20. dlf Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:54 PM (#2190837)
Ah yes, Joe West just has to make sure that the fans -- who clearly come to see him umpire and not some silly players catch, hit, pitch, run -- get their money worth.
   21. rb's team is inventing new ways to lose! Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2190848)
Oh ####, people still use these?!

I thought these things had gone the way of the dinosaurs. I'd have been in here the last few weeks if I had known people still chatted here. I assumed everyone was using the new real-time chatter.
   22. rb's team is inventing new ways to lose! Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2190855)
Bobby got ejected?! Booyah!!

We were dsicussing a possible stopping of the game when he finally gets the record, earlier this season. We thought it would only be right. Bring him out, give him a curtain call, all of that.
   23. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2190858)
A tear in Pedro's OTHER calf! He's falling apart.

I'm getting concerned about his future in general now.
   24. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2190859)
This has been more like it, that's for sure. Can everyone hear that massive sigh of relief emanating all the way from Louisville?
   25. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2190862)
A tear in Pedro's OTHER calf! He's falling apart.

I'm getting concerned about his future in general now.
   26. rb's team is inventing new ways to lose! Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2190864)
Well, I gotta go to my soccer game now. Enjoy, folks. It was nice chattering with y'all one last time this year.
   27. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2190866)
A tear in Pedro's OTHER calf! He's falling apart.

Where did you see that, Banta?
   28. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2190868)
They just announced it on SNY, for those wondering where I'm getting that from. Pedro won't require surgery, he'll have to wear the boot he had just got down wearing on the other leg, but he'll be out 4-6 weeks, which means he's done.
   29. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2190871)
Well, at least the rotation is set.
   30. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2190874)
Terrible baserunning. Took an RBI away from Green.
   31. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2190876)
5 runs in 4 innings, maybe I should always miss the first few innings.
   32. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2190877)
Shawn Green is a disgrace.
   33. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2190878)
Which also means this off-season for Pedro must be about a program of strengthening his legs and preparing himself differently for 2007. Thank goodness the Mets have a much better training staff than they did two years ago. I actually have confidence they can set him up to prepare successfully to come back stronger.
   34. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2190881)
Somebody needs to go and tear Shawn Green's calf. NOW.
   35. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2190882)
What a surprise, a Green GIDP.
   36. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2190883)
Inning Over™ . . . What a tool. Pitcher comes in and throws four straight balls to Wright, and ball one to Inning Over™. Then what does he do? Swings weakly at the next pitch. Inning Over™. Unreal.
   37. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2190884)
I think this also means that the Mets have to sign either Schmidt or Zito, without a doubt.
   38. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2190886)
Enter the Maine.
   39. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:14 PM (#2190890)
At least we all should have pretty much full confidence in El Duque going into the playoffs. He's been absolutely sensational.
   40. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:17 PM (#2190892)
I love that slow curve.
   41. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:22 PM (#2190895)
I don't know if anyone here is watching from Long Island, but that Elegant Entries commercial was impressive.
   42. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2190896)
El Duque has thrown 82 pitches in four innings. One more inning?
   43. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2190897)
Well, that Pedro news sucks.
   44. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2190898)
Are you guys also aware that Floyd is in New York, getting a cortizone shot in his left ankle?
   45. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2190899)
I didn't realize you could only replace an injured pitcher with another pitcher for the playoff roster.
   46. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2190900)
The only thing that has to concern you about Dookie is the pitch count. If they want him to start games one and four, he'll need to be a little more economical.
   47. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2190901)
Are you guys also aware that Floyd is in New York, getting a cortizone shot in his left ankle?

Oh, better and better. So much for the hope of leaving Green gathering dust on the bench.

Reyes now one shy of the top 10 in times on base!
   48. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2190902)
Reyes! 6 more hits!
   49. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:28 PM (#2190905)
Come on, Reyes, triples and homeruns, please! These singles are great, but...
   50. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2190912)
Andruw going for the Big Blast . . . .
   51. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:35 PM (#2190913)
Frigging Joe West . . . .
   52. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:36 PM (#2190916)
Dammit Wright.
   53. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:37 PM (#2190918)
David, your errors are just OUTRAGEOUS.
   54. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:37 PM (#2190919)
Oh, David . . . Sheesh.
   55. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:38 PM (#2190922)
So this time, El Duque doesn't leave it up to West, or to his defense. He just handles Frenchie.
   56. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:39 PM (#2190923)
Great job to shut that sucker down. Pitcher picks up the fielder. Love that.
   57. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:40 PM (#2190925)
Great job by El Duque. Too many pitches, of course, but if we're gonna get a dominant start in the postseason by someone, this is the guy.
   58. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:41 PM (#2190926)
Ah, one last Bobby Cox ejection.

When the umps were listed, I turned to my family and said, "Bobby Cox will get ejected this game."
   59. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:43 PM (#2190928)
Time to stop watching this game and pay full attention to the no-hitting of the Yankees.
   60. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:43 PM (#2190931)
Go Beltran!
   61. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:43 PM (#2190932)
MVP!
   62. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:43 PM (#2190933)
That's tie Hundley!!!!!!!
   63. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2190934)
ALL RIGHT, BELTRAN! ONE MORE!
   64. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2190935)
BELTRAN! Tied Todd Hundley!
   65. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2190936)
Good, I feel better about Beltran's leg with that bomb and his bunt single. That bunt made me feel better because he had no issue with running hard.
   66. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:46 PM (#2190939)
Too many pitches, of course, but if we're gonna get a dominant start in the postseason by someone, this is the guy.

All we need are six innings, Banta. With our pen, all we need are six innings.
   67. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:46 PM (#2190940)
With that homer Beltran tied the team records for HR, XBH, and runs scored.
   68. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2190945)
No DP, nice job Green!
   69. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2190946)
With that homer Beltran tied the team records for HR, XBH, and runs scored.

That last one still ultimately to be determined, however. Mr. Reyes may still have a say in who holds that team record on Monday.
   70. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:49 PM (#2190947)
All we need are six innings, Banta. With our pen, all we need are six innings

I read that somewhere...
   71. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:50 PM (#2190949)
All we need are six innings, Banta. With our pen, all we need are six innings.

It's gonna be amusing, if the Mets end up winning the World Series with their current rotation, the amount of stories that will come out about how a great bullpen is the key to success and then, the possibility of relievers getting even more overpaid in the offseason.
   72. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:53 PM (#2190952)
No hitter for Baltimore against hte Yanks...one out in the ninth
   73. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:54 PM (#2190956)
Guess I cursed Cabrera...
   74. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:54 PM (#2190957)
Cano breaks up the no-no.
   75. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:55 PM (#2190963)
Well, Dial, you're responsible for breaking that one up.
   76. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:55 PM (#2190965)
And Abreu hits into a Shawn Green. That ended it.
   77. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:55 PM (#2190966)
Robinson Cano is a scumbag.
   78. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:58 PM (#2190968)
Jose Reyes, that was completely outrageous.
   79. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:58 PM (#2190969)
Oh, that is a BS call by the second base ump. You can't call that.
   80. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:58 PM (#2190970)
Man, Reyes didn't get that, but when do you ever see the ump not call that? Around the bag is always called.
   81. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:58 PM (#2190971)
Okay, guys, stop slopping around...
   82. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:59 PM (#2190973)
Yet again, an ump deciding to make himself the show. That's a neighborhood call. Ridiculous.
   83. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:03 PM (#2190977)
There you go, Kool-Aid™!
   84. Chris Dial Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:03 PM (#2190978)
Nice hammers from Roberto
   85. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:04 PM (#2190979)
So, Roberto keeps up with the Joneses. Nicely done.
   86. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:04 PM (#2190980)
Good work getting out of that by Kool-Aid.
   87. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:04 PM (#2190981)
Good work to get out of that by Kool-Aid.
   88. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:08 PM (#2190986)
I think for that, Jeremy, you owe me some Kool-Aid.
   89. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:11 PM (#2190992)
I think for that, Jeremy, you owe me some Kool-Aid.

Just don't take delivery of it in Guyana, Banta!
   90. Banta Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:18 PM (#2190999)
Just don't take delivery of it in Guyana, Banta!

You know, this "Boy Wonder" nonsense always seemed a bit like something a cult leader would say...
   91. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:36 PM (#2191017)
That inning was positively Heilmanesque.
   92. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:42 PM (#2191019)
I'm sure Floyd and Green will start Game 1. Neither has distinguished himself, but Willie will give them both a shot. It may have been different if Chavez remained hot, but he's cooled off as well.
   93. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:46 PM (#2191021)
Wagner in a non-save situation.

Which means that Jones HR was unbelievably predictable.
   94. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:53 PM (#2191028)
Um, come on, Billy. Finish this, will ya?
   95. Joshemy Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:54 PM (#2191030)
94!
   96. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:55 PM (#2191033)
Yay, a win.
   97. Sam M. Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:56 PM (#2191034)
There we go. Excellent.
   98. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: September 28, 2006 at 11:05 PM (#2191039)
Just got in and heard the news on Pedro. Gee wiz, that suh-diddly-ucks.
