How critical is tonight's start, strictly from the psychological perspective of Mets fans? El Duque is our number 1 or 2- he ought to look like it tonight. He has for the month so far, that's for sure (2.39 ERA in Sept.)

Nah. I think he just did it to try to break out a little bit. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

By the way, Reyes has now reached base (if I count correctly, always a dicey proposition) 256 times. Bernard Gilkey (1996) currently occupies 10th place on the Mets' all-time list, having reached 258 times that season. Reyes could catch Hernandez (1985) for 8th place with 262.

We were dsicussing a possible stopping of the game when he finally gets the record, earlier this season. We thought it would only be right. Bring him out, give him a curtain call, all of that.

They just announced it on SNY, for those wondering where I'm getting that from. Pedro won't require surgery, he'll have to wear the boot he had just got down wearing on the other leg, but he'll be out 4-6 weeks, which means he's done.

Which also means this off-season for Pedro must be about a program of strengthening his legs and preparing himself differently for 2007. Thank goodness the Mets have a much better training staff than they did two years ago. I actually have confidence they can set him up to prepare successfully to come back stronger.

The only thing that has to concern you about Dookie is the pitch count. If they want him to start games one and four, he'll need to be a little more economical.

It's gonna be amusing, if the Mets end up winning the World Series with their current rotation, the amount of stories that will come out about how a great bullpen is the key to success and then, the possibility of relievers getting even more overpaid in the offseason.
