I can't believe Franco hit a homerun last night. He hasn't shown homerun power all year, and that includes the homerun he hit earlier in the season.
   2. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:11 PM (#2193373)
Frank is a classy guy.
   3. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:13 PM (#2193375)
Cliff Floyd is leading off?

   5. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:24 PM (#2193389)
8 PM on Thursday. Damn, I won't be home until at least 8:45.
   6. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:26 PM (#2193390)
ESPN!!?! ####!
   7. Mike Emeigh Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:26 PM (#2193391)
Again, that assumes that the Cardinals and Astros don't have to play off on Tuesday.

Right Mike. Forgot to include that.

I like these times. I got class til about 3:30 on Wednesday, so a 4:15 or so start works perfectly. And night games aren't a worry at all for me.
   9. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:31 PM (#2193397)
Does MLB hate the West Coast? How exactly are we supposed to watch a game that starts at 4 PM on a freaking Wednesday, and that can only be seen in cable?
   10. RB in NYC (Now with Time-Consuming New Job!) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:35 PM (#2193401)
Gotta get the Yankees in prime-time, I guess.
   11. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:35 PM (#2193402)
Oliver Perez can be so dominant at times, its ridiculous. With Pedro being out til June, I'm thinking he'll be given every chance to be in the starting rotation next year.
   12. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:37 PM (#2193404)
Wait, what the ####, so the game will start at 1 PM for us? That's a bit better, I guess, but still.
   13. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:39 PM (#2193406)

How exactly am I supposed to watch a game that starts at 4 PM on a freaking Wednesday when I have a class that starts on freaking Wednesday at 5:35??? I hate Bud Selig.

That's what sick days were invented for, Sam.

Nice to see the offense pick it up. With Pedro out, we are definitely going to need to smash our way into the next round.
   17. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:43 PM (#2193412)
Where did IPOR get this power? That's two straight days with a double.
   18. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:44 PM (#2193414)
That's what sick days were invented for, Sam.

And DVR's.

I am in no mood, people. No fricking mood. This absolutely SUCKS.

That's what sick days were invented for, Sam.

I'm saving it for Thursday.
   20. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:45 PM (#2193416)
That was terrible by Church.
   21. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:46 PM (#2193417)
It's just painful to watch Floyd limp. Guess I won't have to worry about it on Wednesday.
   22. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:47 PM (#2193419)
Floyd looked like he was running pretty good there. That's a good sign.
   23. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:49 PM (#2193422)
So was Floyd limping or running good? Can someone break the tie?
   24. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:49 PM (#2193423)
Jets just got the tying TD v. the Colts (pending the XP). Wow.
   25. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:50 PM (#2193424)
Damn Beltran, you need to hit a homer today!
   26. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:51 PM (#2193426)
Floyd was limping after the double, no doubt. He was running a bit better coming around third to score -- no limp -- but still pretty ginger, I'd say.
   27. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:51 PM (#2193427)
Jets just got the tying TD v. the Colts (pending the XP). Wow.

Damn right!

J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS!
   28. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:53 PM (#2193428)
Woo Jets! I figured they'd be down by 3 scores already.
   29. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:53 PM (#2193429)
Aguero almost scores. Phew. That guy is going to be great.

Speaking of which, how awesome is Raul? Left off the national team, he responds with three goals in a week. Never understimate the heart of a champion.

Wright is getting hot at the right time. With all those LHB, we need him now more than ever.
   30. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:55 PM (#2193431)
The Jets just went for, and recovered, an onside kick! And are driving. How about that!
   31. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 01:56 PM (#2193432)
He was running a bit better coming around third to score -- no limp

Ok, that was the play I was talking about.
   32. HowardMegdal Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:00 PM (#2193439)
In a world with 5-0 Rutgers, anything is possible.
   33. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:02 PM (#2193442)
Looks like good Ollie today, doesn't it? Gee, he's got the goods when he looks like this.
   34. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:02 PM (#2193443)
So what does our rotation look like next year?

1. ???
2. Glavine?
3. ???
4. Maine?
5. Pelfrey/Perez/Williams/Bannister?
   35. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:05 PM (#2193446)
Give me Glavine, Maine, Pelfrey, and Perez and I'll be OK with one FA. Bannister in the minors ready to step in when necessary. One FA to rule them all.
   36. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:05 PM (#2193447)
TOUCHDOWN JETS!
   37. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:05 PM (#2193448)
The Jets take the lead! YES!!!
   38. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:06 PM (#2193451)
Schneider's catcher's mask has to be the ugliest thing ever worn on a baseball field. Wow.
   39. HowardMegdal Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:07 PM (#2193453)
Prediction: Humber will win a spot over Pelfrey next spring.
   40. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:08 PM (#2193455)
I posted in the Milledge thread that I'd like to see

1. Schmidt
2. Maine
3. Pelfrey
4. Second tier FA
5. Perez/Bannister/ect.
   41. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:09 PM (#2193457)
I figure Humber ready by mid-season.
   42. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:11 PM (#2193463)
1. Schmidt
2. Maine
3. Pelfrey
4. Second tier FA
5. Perez/Bannister/ect.

I honestly think that with Pedro out there is next to no chance they won't pick up Glavine. They won't want that much instability on the pitching staff. They may negotiate with him, but he'll be back.
   43. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:15 PM (#2193470)
I agree Sam, I was just saying what I wanted to see. And I guess Glavine could qualify as a second tier FA for my rotation.
   44. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:17 PM (#2193474)
Green sucks.
   45. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:17 PM (#2193475)

Unless Glavine is excercising his option, I'd seriously consider letting him go, and signing another first-tier guy (Zito, Schmidt, Matsuzaka) . I'd be okay with having him next year, but not at $14MM.
   46. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:18 PM (#2193476)
Frigging Peyton Manning. Colts on the verge of the tying TD here.

It's the difference between Glavine for ONE year, and someone else for a LOT of years. I'd rather overpay for one year. And I think we have leverage with Glavine, because he's already said it's us, or Atlanta, and I can't believe Atlanta has the budget for him. Something between his option and $14M should do it.
   48. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:21 PM (#2193480)
Wednesday 4:19? No! Class until 4:40.
   49. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:22 PM (#2193481)
Oh, what a beautiful pitch to Castro! Perfect.
   50. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:26 PM (#2193485)
Great job! Right in on the fists. He makes it exciting, our Ollie . . . .
   51. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:29 PM (#2193488)
That inning wasn't entirely Perez's fault. Green should have caught Fick's flyball, and Church's hit was a broken bat roller.
   52. Alan S Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:31 PM (#2193492)
There's really nothing on the FA market this offseason that is too exciting, so Glavine at $14MM next year would be OK with me as long as it's only for next year. Acknowledging that Glavine is not as a good as Zito or Schmidt, I'd still prefer they overpay him for 1 year than one of the other two for 3-5.

And despite the situation with Pedro, I can't help but be optimistic about our rotation. Maybe none of Perez, Maine, Pelfrey, Humber, and Bannister will end up being great, but having that many guys 25 or younger who are as talented and close to ready as that group is, is a nice thing to have. Makes me feel very confident that this team will not have much trouble keeping its 2-5 spots in the rotation occupied and effective for the foreseeable future.

That only makes sense if the FA crop has starters who are better than Zito, et al.
   54. CrosbyBird Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:44 PM (#2193503)
How about Ted Lilly? Not a dominant pitcher, but very solid and not super expensive like Zito/Schmidt? Left-handed too.
   55. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 02:52 PM (#2193512)
I like Lilly and Padilla. I think they're my next favorite after Schmidt.
   56. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:11 PM (#2193530)
Time to break Hundley's record NOW.
   57. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:12 PM (#2193533)
Or not.
   58. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:33 PM (#2193564)
Holy cow! The Jets take the lead with 8:00 to go in the game -- 21-17! Who is Eric Mangini???
   59. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:33 PM (#2193565)
BARLOW! TOUCHDOWN!!!
   60. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:47 PM (#2193598)
Damn you Peyton.
   61. CrosbyBird Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:48 PM (#2193599)
Wow, 103 yard KR TD.
   62. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:48 PM (#2193604)
YAY JUSTIN MILLER!
   63. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:49 PM (#2193610)
Peyton gets the ball back, though . . . .
   64. CrosbyBird Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:54 PM (#2193621)
Do the Jets plan on playing any defense this drive?
   65. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:54 PM (#2193622)
2 minutes to go and the Jets are leading the Colts! J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS!
   66. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:55 PM (#2193627)
And CBS brought me to the game!
   67. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:58 PM (#2193635)
####### Colts.
   68. CrosbyBird Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:58 PM (#2193636)
The Jets totally deserve to lose this game.
   69. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:59 PM (#2193640)
####. Damnit Peyton.

Heap just scored for the Ravens, who take the lead of the Chargers with 34 ticks left.
   70. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:59 PM (#2193643)
That sucked.
   71. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 03:59 PM (#2193645)
That player who missed the tackle and got bumped by Gramatica on the kick return? Yeah, he's from Syracuse.
   72. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:00 PM (#2193646)
What the #### was that!?
   73. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:02 PM (#2193654)
Boy, did they screw up that squib kick. Horrendous.
   74. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:03 PM (#2193659)
These short passes aren't going to work guys.
   75. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:05 PM (#2193664)
I thought that was going to work.
   76. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:05 PM (#2193665)
That last play WAS entertaining . . . if they had just handled that kickoff competently, I believe they certainly could have driven for a tying FG. What an opportunity.
   77. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:06 PM (#2193666)
DAMMIT! THAT WAS ALMOST SO AWESOME.
   78. HowardMegdal Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:11 PM (#2193675)
Had they scored there, that gets put on the short list of greatest NFL games ever, no?
   79. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:11 PM (#2193676)
So close.
   80. Sam M. Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:20 PM (#2193694)
Well. 97-65. That is the 5th best record in franchise history, trailing only the fabulous teams of 1969, 1985, 1986, and 1988. In getting to that lofty status, this team has really had to overcome more adversity than any of those teams really faced along the way, and it deserves enormous credit -- and a high place in our esteem -- for that. No matter what happens in the next few days and weeks, it's been a special season.
   81. AJM Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:22 PM (#2193697)
Fine ending to a great regular season. The magic continues on Wednesday.
   82. Joshemy Posted: October 01, 2006 at 04:25 PM (#2193705)
That's a nice way to end the season.

It's been a fun season and should be an even better playoffs.

See you Wednesday boys.
   83. Rob Base Posted: October 01, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2193973)
97 wins. Not bad.
