Riske getting loose.

Seriously, these are really high stress innings/pitches. He needs to be told to go to the clubhouse and pound some budweiser.
   103. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2763627)
Sending Pie to the minors for Lee botching a cutoff would be very Cubs-like.

As would be bringing up an infielder to replace him.
   104. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2763632)
With Soto running, a good throw from Hall would have meant two.

Geo's gotta be top 10 slowest position players in the majors.
   106. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2763640)
Oh, Felix. Well, at least Sheets is done and it's only a one-run game. Props for SEVEN walks.
   107. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2763641)
The memorial "Corey Patterson swing at a high fastball" ends the inning, thankfully.
   108. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2763642)
108 pitches through 5 for Sheets. Was Yost just trying to get him the win there? I assume he's done.
   109. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2763644)
I'm really sick of the Corey Patterson/Felix Pie comparisons. Corey would've loved to have had Felix's minor league career.

OH COURSE YOU ###### REACTIONARY IDIOT OF A MANAGER PULL PIE GOTTA HAVE FONTENOT'S AWESOME BAT IN THERE.

Fontenot? That's so dumb.

Signing him to a 5-year deal would be even more Cub-like.
   112. Sweet Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2763647)
So Sheets walked 7 guys, meaning he threw them 28 balls. But he only threw 48 balls total while facing 26 batters, meaning he threw only 20 balls to the other 19 batters he faced.

Maybe that's not an unusual pitch dispersion, but it seems odd to me.

Pie made the last out, so he's the natural guy to go on a double-switch, with Hart on to pitch.

Felix did have a better career, but the difference isn't as dramatic as you make it out to be.
   116. Thomas Richard Hamilton Nugent Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2763656)
Maybe the Brewers will bring in a LHP and Lou will burn Fontenot for Cedeno. Just to sort of remind the Brewers how cool it is to have a couple of guys on the bench.
   117. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2763657)
Of course, obviously Pinella went through all the double-switch stuff because he assumed Hart would go multiple innings, which isn't looking good right now.
   118. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2763659)
Ouch. Would have hoped for more than one run there.
   119. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2763662)
Gameday's crapped out, I guess.

Nice Cobb spikes from Braun!

Sooooo, someone who is actually watching the game tell me what's happening, since it's be 3-1 to Mike Cameron for like five minutes.
   122. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2763668)
And after the spikes high he made nice nice with Theriot.

In other divisional news Nate McLouth hit his 7th homer. Seriously. Nate McLouth.

It should be noted Riske replaced Sheets to begin the inning.

Johnson squibs a lollipop rainbow to CF. 1 out.

Theriot feathers a sawed off craptacular jam shot that falls on a cloud of pillows into RF.

Derek Lee grounds into a 6-4-3. Cubs hopes are dashed.

####### it, the Cubs do a decent job of knocking Sheets around, and they're behind. Frigging Marquis.

Since it appears the online services stalled again:

Hart singled
Hardy singled
Gwynn PHing, 1 out

Marshall on to pitch for CHC

Hey! Where's that strike been all game?
   145. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2763722)
So, early in the year, Gwynn and Fielder were wearing unbelievably oversized uniforms that it was a wonder they could run in. I notice tonight that they are both in more reasonable attire. Is it known if they were told to get things under control, and if so, by whom?
   146. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2763725)
Nothing like the lefty-lefty match-up. Christ.
   147. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2763726)
Marshall walking Gwynn - his one and only hitter - to load the bases can't make Lou happy.

Brewers sure have seemed to have the bases loaded a lot tonight.
   148. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2763729)
17 baserunners in 6.1 IP for the Brewers
   149. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2763735)
Hmm. Kendall is a good, patient contact guy, but hits into a lot of DPs. We'll see how this goes.
   150. Sweet Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2763736)
I'd have brought in Marmol, but Wuertz seems like a semi-defensible choice -- he throws ground balls, and Kendall hits ground balls. Match made in heaven with 1 out and the bases juiced.
   151. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2763737)
Ooo. I'm getting that feeling we're a couple pitches from me turning my attention elsewhere for the night.

WALK! 7-4 Brew Crew
   153. Thomas Richard Hamilton Nugent Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2763741)
I remember this feeling. The bases loaded walk feeling. I'd forgotten what it was like to be frustrated by the Cubs' performance.
   154. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2763742)
Cameron with three hits

9-4 Brewers!

I'm out. I've got an exam to study for and I don't think my professor will let "I was watching Michael Wuertz and Jason Marquis serve up BP" suffice as an excuse for being ill-prepared.
   156. Thomas Richard Hamilton Nugent Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2763750)
Len's talking about the Bill james Goldmine and proposing that it should be the pitcher who gives up the RBI who gets charged the run. Why not divide up the runs between the pitchers? People pay attention to ERA, but rarely calculate it on their own. Or keep ERA, but add a fairERA column.

Booing Cubs fans are whiny little #######. They've won about 2/3s of their games fer cryin' out loud.

Maybe the guy that told Gagne to quit wearing a poly double knit untucked tent of a jersey? The Brewers do look like the slobs of their '82 history.

Murton with the 75-foot infield dink for a hit.

Fontenot!! Neat!
   160. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2763764)
This game just got more interesting. 9-7 Brewers

Can we put Pie back in the game, in place of Fontentot? :P

Murton with the 75-foot infield dink for a hit.

That seems like the only type of hits he ever gets. That guy just hussles!
   162. Bunny Vincennes Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2763767)
Are you ####### serious? 8-7!

It's part of his new image makeover. To improve his career prospects, he's re-casting himself as a "scrappy redhead"
   165. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2763776)
Lieber coming in NOW? In the 8th?

Wouldn't he be the guy brought in the 5th or so?
   166. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2763777)
Fielder leads off with a double.

This game is doing no favors to any of the pitchers' numbers.
   167. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2763786)
Here comes Lou to get tossed.

Or maybe not.
   168. Bunny Vincennes Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2763787)
Lou has horribly mismanaged this game.
   169. NTNgod Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2763789)
10-4 Brewers. I'm surprised that Hardy grounder made it through - it seemed like it bounced 10000 times up the middle.

Man, the Brewers have Theriot pegged defensively.

Oooo... hanging changeup.
