Durham gets a start, and pops up.
   2. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2871895)
I guess the good thing about this series is that it's putting to bed any ideas about trading Rasmus for Mark Ellis or something else similarly crazy.
   3. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2871896)
Well, he's saving his home runs for the games against the Cubs. BeanoCook told me so.
   4. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2871899)
Well, that was disappointing.
   5. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2871900)
Two hits, no runs - Wellemeyer escapes. I doubt that will continue.
   6. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2871901)
A couple of bumps there, but Wellemeyer looks good for the first time in a while.
   7. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2871904)
Cards have had great success against Sheets, but those Cards teams were better and the Brewers teams were worse.
   8. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2871907)
Glaus scares me more than Pujols these days. Odd.
   9. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2871910)
Ankiel!
   10. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2871912)
Glaus scares me more than Pujols these days. Odd.

That is odd. Pujols is slumping again, Glaus is hot, but still.
   11. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2871913)
Sheets not even bothering paying attention to Schumaker cost him a run there.
   12. rembini06 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2871915)
One of these days the scouting report will say don't cheat off first against Molina and don't throw offspeed stuff to Ankiel.
   13. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2871916)
That is odd. Pujols is slumping again, Glaus is hot, but still.
Yeah, but Pujols looks like crap.

He'll chase outside, and he'll chase high out of the zone. He's messed up.
   14. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2871917)
That was some dumb pitching. He was flailing at the 94 mph fastball so let's speed up the bat with a cheesy offspeed pitch.
   15. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2871923)
Wellemeyer has confounded my expectations and is getting outs.
   16. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2871925)
He's spotting his fastball well, and the Brewers are having trouble getting around on it.
   17. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2871927)
I'd forgotten how much fun it is to watch Sheets pitch.

Sheets walks Kennedy. I'll mark my calendar.
   18. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2871933)
I think Ben is letting this CC thing get in his head. He seems to be overthrowing at times and it's affecting his control.
   19. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2871934)
That was a hanger Pujols got.
   20. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2871935)
Pujols gets the SF.
   21. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2871936)
Has SHeets thrown a breaking pitch?
   22. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2871939)
Not a lot of them, but yes.
   23. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2871940)
I don't think I've ever seen Ryan Braun take five straight pitches.
   24. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2871941)
Hey Prince, any time you want to hit that is fine...
   25. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2871943)
He almost hit Braun there, but that's not what you meant.
   26. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2871944)
See, he needs to be challenged....
   27. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2871945)
Terrible. Corey has killed how many innings this series?

My gosh...
   28. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2871947)
Nice AB by Hall
   29. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2871949)
I wouldn't object if Ned sat Corey tomorrow. He just looks off his feed.
   30. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2871950)
Wellemeyer throws SO MANY pitches.
   31. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2871951)
30 pitches this inning so far, and that's with a DP.
   32. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2871953)
Nice AB by Cameron
   33. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2871955)
####! Throw a ####### strike already.

Wellemeyer gets good results when he is on, but that's not often, and he never will be capable of going deep into games. I won't miss him when he's gone.
   34. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2871956)
Those first three to Kendall... umm, not close.
   35. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2871958)
Kendall draws the walk! 2-1 STL
   36. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2871959)
Interesting strike zone.
   37. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2871960)
Ben should be sitting fastball first pitch.
   38. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2871962)
Even Sheets is racking up poor Welleymeyer's pitch count this inning.
   39. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2871963)
Ludwick robbed Sheets of an RBI. Bastard!~
   40. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2871967)
Glaus has reason to beef.

Of course, strike one was called a ball.
   41. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2871968)
This ump has no more clue what the strike zone is than I do.
   42. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2871972)
Jesus, Hart. If you're still sick, stay out of the lineup.
   43. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2871976)
Where has that curve been? Saving it for LaRue??
   44. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2871979)
Wellemeyer hits a 3B? That was the unlikely possible thing to happen.

Gotta give an E to Hart, right? He looked off his feed on that play.
   45. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2871981)
Yeah, it was scored single and an error.
   46. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2871982)
That's ridiculous.

He needs to sit down.
   47. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2871983)
woo hoo! cards get a break!
   48. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2871986)
The ball was hit pretty hard and was fading on him a bit. It's an error, but it wasn't an easy play.
   49. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2871989)
Hart played the angle wrong. Bad play.
   50. rembini06 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2871993)
Wellemeyer should go ahead and make the appointment with Jobe or Andrews or whomever for the TJ surgery.
   51. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2872000)
Uh-oh, La Russa picked up... the BULLPEN PHONE
   52. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2872003)
3-2 STL on the Hart groundout
   53. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2872005)
Cripes, walk Prince and Hart will hit into the DP.

Corey has a black cloud over him right now.
   54. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2872006)
Miles envies Eckstein's arm.
   55. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2872008)
Corey's swing looks awful.

How can nobody on the staff notice?
   56. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2872009)
Cripes, walk Prince and Hart will hit into the DP.

Corey has a black cloud over him right now.
   57. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2872011)
Cripes, walk Prince and Hart will hit into the DP.

Corey has a black cloud over him right now.
   58. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2872012)
Brutal AB from Hart.

Aside from that, I would just like to say it's been a very good week of baseball thus far between the NY/PHI series and this one. Good and meaningful games.
   59. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:42 PM (#2872014)
Usual Cardinal good fortune. Oddles of baserunners but minimal impact.

Only the suddenly weakened Card offense has allowed the Crew to still succeed. Because Milwaukee has left a LOT of guys on base.

Between Sheets bloop and Hall's liner it should 6-3 now.

Now I await the "Card defense" remarks. As if Wellemeyer planned that.
   60. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2872016)
Where did all those repeats come from??

Sorry....
   61. rembini06 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2872017)
Harvey, go #### yourself.
   62. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2872019)
That was uncalled for.
   63. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2872021)
I'm going to create a new baseball simulation and call it "Should've-ball." It'll sell millions.
   64. rembini06 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2872022)
Yes, I agree, Harvey's constant condescension towards Cardinals fans is uncalled for.
   65. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2872025)
What was uncalled for? The Brewers this series HAVE left a lot of guys on base.
   66. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2872029)
Really, how many times do you get to see a Brewer fan condescend toward Cardinals fans? They're rarer than a Rays fan in a green cap.
   67. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2872030)
Bad, Sheets, bad.
   68. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2872034)
I am at a loss. What was written that was so "condescending"? That doesn't even sound right.

I have endured many a Cards/Crew chatter with mocking remarks directed to the Brewers. Mostly deserved but still.
   69. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2872036)
This series could hardly be called a good display of baseball. Also, WTF is the "usual Cardinal good fortune?" The Cards have had worse luck than any other MLB team in the past decade.
   70. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2872039)
I'll take the Indians on that one.
   71. rembini06 Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2872040)
This is what's condescending:

Now I await the "Card defense" remarks. As if Wellemeyer planned that.

Let others speak for themselves. The board works better that way.
   72. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2872041)
Guts:

Not against Milwaukee.

Along with having the best player on the field and the superior manager I can recall numerous plays where the ball bounced the Cards way.

It was if the baseball fates were rubbing our noses in it.
   73. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2872044)
I think it's the tendency of the Cards to usually be better than their talent is percieved to be, which is probably more a reflection of the importance of LaRussa/Duncan to the Cards then anything.

They do seem to have a knack of getting good performances of out of journeymen (the Tony Womacks of the world).
   74. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2872049)
What I considered uncalled for was the comment directed at you, Harveys.
   75. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2872051)
Oh, sorry, I was think of all the dead players.
   76. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2872052)
NTN:

While I agree that is true for the larger baseball audience I have never been under that delusion.

I am speaking to individual plays throughout the various series.

It has been uncanny.
   77. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2872053)
Thinking, rather.
   78. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2872062)
The Brewers play continuously until early August? Is it the same for the Cards? If so, this bullpen is going to collapse due to exhaustion.
   79. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2872064)
Thank you, Mr. Kennedy. Eight to go.
   80. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2872065)
If Prince gets on PH for Hart?
   81. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2872068)
The Brewers play continuously until early August?

Several of the teams are in stretches like that. Cubs, too, I believe.
   82. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2872071)
More interesting strikes....
   83. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2872076)
Not Hart's best night.
   84. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2872077)
Poor ball/strike calls for both sides tonight. Hall struck out twice earlier, and Fielder walked three times in that AB.
   85. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2872078)
Yowsa.

It's as if he rolled it out there to be fielded....
   86. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2872088)
I had to go back and look; the Brewers actually have had two 1-2-3 innings this game. It sure doesn't feel like it.

More like: runner, runner, get one run if lucky
   87. Portia Stanke Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2872096)
If Franklin blows this lead, we'll have to bury him in the same shallow grave as Ricky Bottalico.
   88. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2872099)
I'm assuming he came on to get a GB DP from Kendall, but he hasn't exactly been pitching well lately.
   89. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2872101)
For a minute I thought Tony was telling the umps that Hart should be batting.
   90. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2872109)
At least no DP....
   91. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2872110)
No runs either.
   92. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2872113)
6-1 road trip wildly exceeds expectations.

I am hoping this "pair of aces" talk stops. I really do think Bennie is letting it get to him. That lapse against SS was just weird.
   93. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2872118)
%$#@&^!!!! we need runs, dammit!
   94. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2872123)
Thank Christ, Albert didn't swing at a shitty outside pitch.
   95. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872133)
How do you make Ryan ####### Franklin player of the game when he's about to blow the ####### lead?
   96. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872134)
BRAUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   97. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872135)
Hardy has the right approach with this ump. If it's close swing....
   98. NTNgod Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872137)
Holy ####. That's three games this series they've done that.
   99. maharishi mahesh yogi berra (phredbird) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872139)
oh lordy fsn has announced franklin as budweiser's great player of the game. it ain't over yet you ninnies.
   100. Guts Posted: July 24, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2872140)
Sorry, right before he blows this ############# game?
