For the Brewers, the moment of truth approaches. I wish they weren’t playing the Pirates this weekend. If they were playing another team I could root for them to break off their run towards infamy.

Oof...down 3-0 in the first.

Cirillo's error proved costly.

Watching the game, and comparing it to GameCenter's version of events is amusing, though.

ACTUAL EVENT:
With two outs, Brad Eldred hits a routine grounder to third that goes through Cirllo's legs for an error, and scores a run.

GAMECENTER VERSION:
Eldred doubled to deep left, Sanchez scored, Wilson to third.

Perez has lost the strike zone, after a nine-pitch first inning.

Perez wiggles out, though. Crap.

Gamecenter says he squirmed out.

Thank goodness that the Rangers got rid of Doug Davis for nothing, even though he was clearly one of the Rangers best players. DLFJASDFL;JFD;FJDS

In fairness, the Blue Jays had him after the Rangers, and he didn't do much for them. I think a lot of the credit for Davis's success belongs to Mike Maddux.
   9. Spivey Posted: September 30, 2005 at 08:20 PM (#1655224)
He still had an ERA+ around 94 with Toronto. And consistently had an ERA+ around 100 with the Rangers. Which means for a starter, he was pretty much average with Toronto, and above average for the Rangers. Although his K/BB ratio for Toronto was awful, and not too great for the Rangers.

But I did think he had solid stuff and was always a candidate to improve that. In any event, there was no excuse for the Rangers (and very possibly Toronto) to get rid of him given the other options they had.

Ron Wood (Faces, Rolling Stones) shown watching the game from the suites.

Is that the biggest celebrity to ever watch a September Pirates/Brewers game? :)

The Brewers sorta need to score this inning.

Perez is certainly trying to help them out here...

RBI WALK! 5-1 Pirates.

Perez has 7 BB and 1 HBP in 5+ IP.

Sac fly off Rick White works for me. 5-2 PIT, with one out.

Davis routinely battles his control which is the one thing keeping him from becoming a really elite starter. He looks to be good for 200 innings and better than average ERA. But he cannot consistently throw strikes from game to game or even within a game and it costs him too many pitches.

Hey, a move by Yost to bust it open with Russell The Muscle. I like it.....
   15. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:07 PM (#1655298)
Nope, LHP Grabow coming in, so Helms will hit.
   16. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:08 PM (#1655302)
It must be Little League rules. Everybody gets to play!!!
   17. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:09 PM (#1655304)
Ron Wood is just going nuts for the camera....mauling that cotton camera.
   18. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:10 PM (#1655307)
mauling that cotton camera. candy

Wes draws the walk. Good man, Wes.

I know in a tight situation I always look for the guy with 24 walks in 50 innings to settle things down...............
   20. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:11 PM (#1655312)
He got Brady, though. Up to J.J.
   21. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:11 PM (#1655314)
I am legitimately shocked. Brady is normally money in that situation.........
   22. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:12 PM (#1655316)
Damn. Could have gotten more runs there.
   23. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:30 PM (#1655355)
JENKINS! 5-4 Pirates now...
   24. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:36 PM (#1655374)
Rough night for third basemen.

Cirillo had two misplays, now Mackowiak makes one...
   25. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 09:37 PM (#1655380)
MILLER!!!!

Brewers lead 6-5!!!!!
   26. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:08 PM (#1655438)
Somebody has to explain to Dana that Ty Wigginton isn't worthy of that type of walk.
   27. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:08 PM (#1655439)
Yost gave Eveland no leash.

Gets the lefty, walks Wiggington - done.

He doesn't want to let this one get away.
   28. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:13 PM (#1655447)
Kane Davis walking the first hitter HE faced isn't making this any less tense.
   29. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:21 PM (#1655462)
They're not going to make this easy.

Two outs in the eighth, bases loaded for PIT, and Julio Santana coming in.
   30. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:24 PM (#1655469)
Santana? The guy with the constant case of gopheritis? Against Bay, not only the ONLY Pirate hitter of note but one of the best hitters in the NL this season??

Can't say I'm thrilled at the notion. Kane Davis gives me a bit more confidence......
   31. NTNgod Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:25 PM (#1655470)
Against Bay,

Craig Wilson.
   32. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: September 30, 2005 at 10:25 PM (#1655471)

Red:

Well, the two of us didn't do d*ck.

Credit the players for taking a step forward for themselves and the organization. It's always gratifying to set a goal and then reach it.
