Is Joe Dillon not on the roster? Man, do they miss Kapler.
   102. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2963016)
Nelson made the roster over Dillon, I believe.

Hamels is a reverse-split guy, anyways.
   103. Bad Doctor Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2963017)
Batters in the postseason(-ish) are currently 12 for 103.
   104. HotelSierraFoxtrot Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2963020)
Well, at least they have 12 pitchers. Christ.
   105. Bunny Vincennes Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:13 PM (#2963021)
No, they promoted Nelson instead of Dillon. Kapler is a big miss, he captured lightening in a bottle.
   106. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:14 PM (#2963024)
Considering their end-of-the-season rotation is held together with band-aids and twine, I'm not TOO upset about that.
   107. Adam B. Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:20 PM (#2963029)
Q: Keep Hamels in for the 9th? Through 8 IP, 2 H 1 BB 9K and only 101 pitches. Game 4 in three days.
   108. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:22 PM (#2963031)
wouldn't be surprised if a coin wasn't used to determine Nelson/Dillon.
   109. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:23 PM (#2963033)
not quite the same as the Piniella-Zambrano conundrum last year, but I'd keep throwing him.
   110. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:24 PM (#2963035)
Mr. Rice and Beans better fare better than last week vs Pitt.
   111. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:25 PM (#2963036)
there's our answer in the bullpen.
   112. PhillyBooster Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:29 PM (#2963042)
It is a save situation. Therefore Brad Lidge will be used.

It was never a question.
   113. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:29 PM (#2963044)
Lidge seemed sort of shakey when the Brewers were in Philly last. Location seemed a bit off.
   114. JJ1986 Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:31 PM (#2963047)
TBS just completely missed a pitch to focus on a crowd shot.
   115. Al Kaline Trio Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:32 PM (#2963048)
I guess with 3 days rest it's more important to go easy on Hamels than save Lidge. Plus the way CC has been going who knows what game 2 will be like.
   116. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:32 PM (#2963050)
death, taxes, Cameron taking strikes.
   117. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:35 PM (#2963052)
ahhhhh, foul
   118. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:35 PM (#2963053)
I am a Bill Hall "fan" but his game has completely evaporated. The mishandling of the bunt, the terrible at bats. Good golly what has happened?

He hasn't had a hit in forever and a day. Good grief......
   119. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2963054)
Wow, that was an odd way to score a run.
   120. JJ1986 Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2963055)
This just got more interesting.
   121. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2963056)
that's what I want to see, a last row upper deck view of ants running the bases.
   122. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963058)
I'm surprised Braun saw any fastballs that AB.
   123. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963059)
Come up with a clue here Prince.
   124. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963060)
I didn't even notice Utley had fallen on his ass from the initial camera shot.
   125. Bunny Vincennes Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963061)
Wow, and why is the cutoff guy that far in out on the line.
   126. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963062)
pitch him.
   127. Dan Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM (#2963063)
Incredibly stupid to pull Hamels when he was cruising like that, and this isn't a second guess, it was a first guess too.
   128. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:38 PM (#2963065)
Walk Prince?
   129. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:39 PM (#2963066)
hit him.
   130. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:39 PM (#2963067)
Lidge got lucky on the 1-1. wonder if Fielder was guessing breaking ball.
   131. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2963068)
"swings over the top"??

He popped it up!
   132. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2963070)
Nice defensive swing
   133. Al Kaline Trio Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2963071)
Off the Lidge in the playoffs again?
   134. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2963072)
And Fielder got lucky to make contact with the 2-2.
   135. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:40 PM (#2963073)
wow. that mask still working?
   136. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:41 PM (#2963075)
Phils fans wanted that one 30 inches off the plate.
   137. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:41 PM (#2963076)
I think he meant, get it down further and he would've swung over the top of it.
   138. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:42 PM (#2963077)
That wasn't even close. Jeez.
   139. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:42 PM (#2963078)
Chased ball four. Terrible.
   140. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:42 PM (#2963079)
Ouch. K on ball 4.
   141. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:42 PM (#2963080)
Sigh.
   142. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:42 PM (#2963081)
Even if they go down, they've made Lidge work, and they've scored off Lidge, so he'll no longer seem invincible the rest of the series.
   143. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:43 PM (#2963083)
this will be a clinical K.
   144. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2963085)
OK, This will be a clinical K.
   145. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2963086)
30 pitches and counting.
   146. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2963087)
Lidge is pitching backwards, basically. I'm counting significantly more sliders than fastballs.
   147. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2963088)
Agree with NTN.......
   148. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2963089)
I don't like Hart's chances
   149. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963092)
4 sliders in that AB and a fastball that missed badly.
   150. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963091)
They should pinch hit with Nelson.

Seriously. Corey is lost at the plate these days...
   151. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963093)
should be nothing near the zone for Hart... well, that was a good pitch
   152. JJ1986 Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963094)
What the hell happened to Corey Hart? Is he playing through a really bad injury?
   153. Dan Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963095)
Lidge is pitching backwards, basically. I'm counting significantly more sliders than fastballs.

Lidge has done that frequently this year from what I have seen.
   154. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2963096)
Hart is 0-5 with 3K off Lidge.

Well, all the Brewers needs is a single now.
   155. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:46 PM (#2963097)
Hart stopped going to right field six weeks ago. Even his earlier hit was a slice job.

Why he decided to try and yank everything to left is beyond anyone.....
   156. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963099)
The Fielder at bat really hurts. Gosh....
   157. The Polish Sausage Racer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963100)
Corey should have his bat taken away from him.
   158. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963101)
They gave them a scare. CC tomorrow; a split in Philly wouldn't be bad at all.
   159. AndrewJ Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963102)
Whew.
   160. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963103)
LIGHTS OUT!
   161. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963104)
Wow. Hart K'ed on a very hittable fastball.
   162. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963105)
Those thigh high heaters right down the pipe always give Hart trouble.
   163. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:47 PM (#2963106)
F-
   164. Adam B. Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:48 PM (#2963107)
Phew. Phils radio call says "Lidge strikes out the side," but that's some careful editing.
   165. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:50 PM (#2963109)
Should have brought in Nelson. Even after the wild pitch and IF they walk Brad then it's Counsell. And Counsell has had a string of good at bats the last month.

Hart is just a disaster. If he's injured then he's hiding or the club is COMPLETELY silent on the topic.

Because he looks TERRIBLE at the plate. Just awful. He hasn't been in a slump this bad in the four years I have seen him play. This is borderline ridiculous. His average has dropped almost 30 points in just four odd weeks.
   166. PhillyBooster Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:50 PM (#2963112)
33 pitches for Lidge.

Phew.
   167. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:50 PM (#2963114)
I counted 35. But I may have gotten a bit carried away.
   168. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:50 PM (#2963115)
Harvey's dead on about Hart pulling everything lately. His AB on Sat vs CHC was shameful, w bases loaded one out and he tried to pull that pitch.
   169. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:51 PM (#2963116)
I counted 35
That's what MLB.com has
   170. Rodder Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:51 PM (#2963117)
Lidge hadn't pitched since Saturday. Manuel might have preferred to get him in the game today for the work.
   171. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:53 PM (#2963119)
mrams:

Actually, I am dead on about everything.

But that's a minor quibble. Ha!!
   172. Bunny Vincennes Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:55 PM (#2963125)
I've got 35 for Lidge. That said, the Brewers looked like the team I think they are.
   173. Padraic Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:55 PM (#2963127)
Manuel might have preferred to get him in the game today for the work.

That's a joke, right? You don't get people f'in work in the playoffs. Dumb move to pull Hamels.
   174. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:56 PM (#2963128)
Jack:

Be nice. If Mike Cameron doesn't pull a Scott Podsednik these teams are still playing.

Wasn't anyone else impressed by the Brewer bullpen? Talk about a stunner.

Stetter deserves a better fate than LOOGY........
   175. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:57 PM (#2963131)
I'd say you're pretty close Harvey, haven't disagreed with much of any of your Yost comments either.
   176. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:58 PM (#2963132)
Wasn't anyone else impressed by the Brewer bullpen? Talk about a stunner.

Torres aside, they've been decent lately.
   177. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:59 PM (#2963135)
Cole Hamels' voice OMG
   178. mrams Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:00 PM (#2963137)
The pen gave 'em a chance, IIRC they had about five chances, and only one timely hit. The betrayal by the defense is a big theme in several of the Crew's 72, now 73 losses this season.
   179. NTNgod Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:00 PM (#2963138)
Yeah, Hamels didn't sound like I was expecting.
   180. Dan Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:02 PM (#2963140)
Glad I wasn't the only one shocked by Hamels' voice.
   181. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:05 PM (#2963145)
mrams:

Agree wholeheartedly. And it's the SAME guys.

Fielder you work with because of the bat.

But Weeks and Hall? Look, I am a Bill Hall guy but 2008 has been a complete disgrace. His bat was one thing but the putrid defense is completely unacceptable. As for Weeks, you accepted on the promise of offensive development. Didn't happen.

Which is why I have NOT griped about Counsell at third. Craig catches the ball AND takes a walk of late. Frankly, I don't think Billy deserves ANY playing time. Only his ability to "kind of" play the outfield as well as the infield merits a roster spot on the team right now.

And I don't see ANY reason to play Weeks if Durham is healthy. When playing good teams you CANNOT give extra outs. Rickie gives the opposition at least one extra out every other game due to his defense other in outright errors or general misplays scored as "hits".

The team had a plan. They stuck with it. It failed. Come the offseason better for everyone if both moved on........
   182. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:06 PM (#2963146)
I've been working for five minutes here to come up with some analogue for Hamels' voice. Cause it isn't quite Tysonesque feminine, it's more Revenge of the Nerds, i think.
   183. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:11 PM (#2963152)
Hamels got hurt in a bar fight when he was in the minors, didn't he? I think I know how it started now.
   184. HotelSierraFoxtrot Posted: October 01, 2008 at 06:13 PM (#2963154)
Bill Hall "fan" but his game has completely evaporated.

Have the Brewers had a single big-money contract work out in their entire history?

Hisle? No.
Fingers? No.
Higuera? No.
Yount? No.
Vaughn? No.
Hammonds? Heh.
Jenkins? No.
Sheets? Sort of, but not really.
Hall? No.
Suppan?
Gagne?
Riske?

OK, when they signed Molitor after 1987, that worked out.
   185. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 01:11 PM (#2964646)

Nope. Good observation here. I've said this for years. The Brewers have a history of finding a guy few others really want, they think they are outsmarting others with a "find", when they are really fooling themselves.

The fact that Sheets "Sort of, but not really" is dead on accurate, really shows how sad of a job they have done with FA. It would help if just one of the guys they spend money on was actually good at one point, instead of hope.

you forgot Sean Berry. so far the R Braun deal is looking like one of the bigger steals ever.....knock on wood.

Where's the game chatter?
   187. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 06:15 PM (#2965138)
Might as well make this the THURSDAY GAME CHATTER:

what is with the IBB of Prince? Inning 1!!!
   188. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2965141)
Hart should take 2 strikes.
   189. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2965166)
Has anyone ever seen a guy swing on 1st pitch after the pitcher opened game with 3 BB and just walked in a run? Hart is Fuking incredible.
   190. A Surfeit of Peaches Graham (SdeB) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2965375)
Since CC is coming out, I thought I might as well ask -- does he wear the largest baseball glove of all time? That thing is humongous.
