All our worried days are gone.

I know Barton needs a day off here and there, but they better not platoon him with Sweeney.

I know Barton needs a day off here and there, but they better not platoon him with Sweeney.

I think they'll let him showcase himself for a bit for other teams.

It took me ten minutes to get the damn player to start. I hate everything about Major League Baseball but the game. If I ever have the chance, I'm starting my own league and throwing gobs of money at all their players and bringing this outfit to its knees.

Liriano is throwing nothing but fastballs, none of them top 89 mph, and on top of that he can't hit the strike zone.

I should've known he was a bad gamble.

It is time...
   8. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 03:53 PM (#2757661)
With the current construction, I think the optimal use of Sweeney is a start at DH whenever Frank needs a day off, a spot start at first base every three weeks or so, and as LOOGY Kryptonite® off the bench.

I hate Extra Innings sometimes. Game's not on.

Good job, poor man's Kielty.
   11. Shooty: Now rated AAA by Moody's! Posted: April 24, 2008 at 03:56 PM (#2757672)
Is Liriano looking that crappy?
   12. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 03:57 PM (#2757677)
In a word, yes.
   13. Dan Posted: April 24, 2008 at 03:58 PM (#2757681)
Yes.
   14. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 03:58 PM (#2757683)
Pyle!
   15. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:01 PM (#2757692)
Oh, don't go pulling an Emil Brown and blowing up the inning!
   16. Danny Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:02 PM (#2757695)
How close was the play at third?
   17. Dingbat Charlie Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:04 PM (#2757704)
crap, my DMB rotation is already shot for next season.
   18. Tuque Snider is the new Gagne_55 Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:04 PM (#2757705)
Is anybody actually watching the game? All I have is Gameday. How does Liriano look, emotion-wise?
   19. Dan Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:06 PM (#2757710)
I'm not sure, Tuque, the camera isn't showing the dugout.
   20. Dingbat Charlie Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:06 PM (#2757713)
I'll be surprised if they don't send him back down after today.
   21. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:07 PM (#2757715)
How close was the play at third?

It wasn't bang-bang, but he wasn't out by a mile, so to characterize it as a horrible, Brownian blunder was probably overstating things a bit.

How does Liriano look, emotion-wise?

His return to the dugout could best be described as a trudge, if that's any indication.

Come on Red Sox, you Torii Hunter hating fools!
   23. Tuque Snider is the new Gagne_55 Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:08 PM (#2757719)
Well, when he was pitching. But I heard in his first start he looked like he hated his life when he was on the mound.

I was hoping he was maybe feeling some remorse for ruining both the Twins and my stat league team.
   24. Danny Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:09 PM (#2757724)
Nice.
   25. Dan Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:10 PM (#2757727)
Wasn't Liriano's TJ basically elective, in that they didn't think he NEEDED it, but he wanted it instead of pitching in pain? Or am I misremembering?

Minnesota's team physician after the surgery: "The ligament was thinned and stretched and not completely torn. It really didn't appear to be as strong as we hoped. I'm pretty confident, based on what we saw, that he will do well."
   27. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2757751)
That was a horrible, Brownian blunder.
   28. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:20 PM (#2757753)
Wow I missed everything. Hall of Famer signing, Rajai Davis debut, runs, Liriano...
   29. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:22 PM (#2757756)
Sweeney's trying to prove he's healthy and a wily veteran?
   30. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2757761)
Good lord, he's fast!
   31. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2757760)
Not to be a wet blanket on this glorious day, but is the downside of the Thomas signing that it may take away ABs from Denorfia?
   32. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:27 PM (#2757766)
I think it's the downside of the Davis claim more than the Thomas signing.
   33. Shooty: Now rated AAA by Moody's! Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:30 PM (#2757771)
I think it's the downside of the Davis claim more than the Thomas signing.

Why Davis instead of Linden? There are already two CF's on the roster.
   34. Shooty: Now rated AAA by Moody's! Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2757786)
Emil Brown has 19 RBI's. Crap. I know it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme, but the 11 year old in me is impressed.
   35. BourbonSamurai Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:41 PM (#2757792)
This is going well. Thomas already "clogging the bases" I see. sweet.
   36. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 04:52 PM (#2757828)
Yeah, I think I could live with Sweeney over a sixth outfielder or seventh reliever.
   37. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:07 PM (#2757874)
Murph!
   38. Danny Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:08 PM (#2757879)
Wahlberg!
   39. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:18 PM (#2757915)
I view Davis as being basically a short-term Buck replacement. I was thinking with Frank, Cust becomes a full-time LF with Emil, and with Ryan basically rooted in CF and Buck/Davis in RF, Denorfia is somewhat relegated to bench duty. Whereas if Cust would be a big part of the DH picture LF would open up somewhat for Denorfia.

Is Sweeney hurt? I figured they wanted to get Daric a day off.
   41. Danny Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:21 PM (#2757920)
Daric Barton: Defensive replacement.
   42. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:22 PM (#2757923)
I think they're just trying to keep Sweeney from getting broken in a game they lead by a billion.
   43. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:29 PM (#2757950)
Sully!
   44. BourbonSamurai Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2757958)
Weird that they'd bring Barton in now.
   45. BourbonSamurai Posted: April 24, 2008 at 05:41 PM (#2757965)
Missed the last bunch of posts. Oops. Smith's been pretty efficient to only be at 88 pitches with the hits he's given up.
   46. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 06:06 PM (#2757981)
So is Murphy now the everyday 3B?
   47. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 24, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2757998)
Yea. A win.
