How big is the upgrade from Grace and Sutton to Scully?
   3. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2770105)
Billingsley just mowed the Mets down in that inning.
   4. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2770116)
Fookie! HR usually means start of a slump for him.
   5. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2770118)
Not a good start to the game. Billingsley mowed down the Mets, and Perez starts of the game by giving up a homer and a single.
   6. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2770128)
Perhaps you're a douche, Cohen.
   7. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2770134)
They are tagging Perez.
   8. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2770137)
Well, atleast he isn't giving up walks! Wagner will be very happy
   9. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2770142)
Well, at least he didn't walk anyone.
   10. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2770147)
I didn't get a chance to participate in the Ollie thread earlier today... maybe it's me, but his stuff doesn't look as good as it did last year. It seems like he's lost a couple MPH off his fastball, and in general there isn't the same bite to any of his pitches that there was last year. You really wonder if something is bothering him that we don't know about.
   11. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2770159)
Delgado smoked that double, almost too hard.
   12. Alan S Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2770166)
Delgado with a rope down the line against a guy K'ing 1.5/inning. He is showing signs of life...

Good thing they held Beltran at third, with Schneider coming up and a guy on the mound who prevents people from putting the ball in play.
   13. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2770167)
Jeez, Schneider, that's a horrible AB from Schneider in that situation. Will the Dodgers walk Castillo?
   14. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2770173)
Scherzer getting destroyed in the desert... Mets are gonna have to win if they want to keep pace.
   15. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2770176)
Schneider brings intangible value, as they say!
   16. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2770177)
See, that's why Scully is the man. To illustrate that Castillo makes contact, he just said that he only swung and missed 45 times last season. That's called being prepared.
   17. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2770187)
Ollie needs a home run, I think.
   18. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2770192)
A Reyes walk is always a good sign.
   19. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2770194)
I learn things about the Mets listening to Scully call the game. I learned that Reyes' signing bonus was $13,000.
   20. Eric in Madison Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2770196)
What a pleasure listening to Vin Scully is. He always has time to finish his story and still describe the game.

Reyes walks and steals are also a pleasure.
   21. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2770198)
Dang, Billingsley's got good stuff.
   22. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2770201)
Jesus, David.

Maybe he misses Sam M., who's never here anymore.
   23. npurcell Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2770202)
Who does Billingsley remind you guys of? Just curious...
   24. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2770203)
The Mets are batting like .175 with two outs and RISP.
   25. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2770207)
Who does Billingsley remind you guys of? Just curious...

Just about every pitcher who signs up for the Mets' patented ERA Reduction Program.
   26. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2770209)
Nice play, Delgado!
   27. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2770210)
Nice work by Ollie there on that play.
   28. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2770212)
Who does Billingsley remind you guys of? Just curious...

I'm not sure, but he does remind me of someone.
   29. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2770214)
Ollie actually looking good since that first inning. If only we could freaking score some damn runs.
   30. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2770215)
Who does Billingsley remind you guys of? Just curious...

Mike Pelfrey, now let's hope he blows up one of these innings...
   31. npurcell Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2770217)
I'm not sure, but he does remind me of someone.

I've seen Tom Seaver comps thrown out there...Not saying he's going to be as good as Seaver.
   32. npurcell Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:05 PM (#2770221)
Mike Pelfrey, now let's hope he blows up one of these innings...

When did Pelfrey get breaking pitches?
   33. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2770224)
Delgado's the only guy doing anything tonight. We're in trouble.
   34. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2770226)
When did Pelfrey get breaking pitches?

When did Pelfrey learn to strikeout guys?
   35. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2770227)
I know his numbers are not good yet but Delgado looks better than last year. Delgado was getting beat inside a lot last year, falling behind a lot. This isn't happening as much this year.
   36. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2770228)
When did Pelfrey get breaking pitches?

Fine. Billingsley reminds me of Jose Lima. Now let's hope he realizes that.
   37. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2770229)
I'm calling a Castillo dinger.

Not.
   38. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2770232)
Things I have learned about the Mets from Scully. Delgado's nickname is Jimmy because he calls evryone Jimmy. Church lives in Cleveland during the offseason.
   39. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2770234)
sigh
   40. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2770235)
Luis Castillo - the 2008 Rafael Santana.
   41. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2770236)
I'm calling a Castillo dinger.

He almost got it to the infield dirt.
   42. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2770237)
0-5 with RISP so far tonight. Outstanding.
   43. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2770240)
Church lives in Cleveland during the offseason

Finally something I don't like about Church.
   44. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2770243)
0-5 with RISP so far tonight. Outstanding.

You'd think they'd do better than they have all year just by accident.
   45. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2770247)
Hornets about to smack the Spurs again. I'm so happy.
   46. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:17 PM (#2770248)
Joe Torre has come a long way since screwing up Lee Mazzilli's career.
   47. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2770254)
Where did that miss?
   48. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2770255)
It would've been helpful if someone had covered second.
   49. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:21 PM (#2770256)
Hornets about to smack the Spurs again. I'm so happy.

Awesome.

Schneider with the Paul Lo Duca special. His defense has been awful.
   50. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:22 PM (#2770259)
Hehe, Andruw sucks worse than Schneider's defense.
   51. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:23 PM (#2770260)
This is the best Perez has looked all season.
   52. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2770262)
Andruw is slugging .255 this year (before tonight)!?
   53. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2770263)
This is the best Perez has looked all season.

Yup, he's gotten stronger. Hopefully his teammates can pick him up. The responsibility for losing this one thus far has swung squarely to them.
   54. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2770264)
What kind of swing was that, Ollie?
   55. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2770265)
Schneider may not be back at 100%, but he calls a game so much better than Casanova that it's not even funny.
   56. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2770269)
Wright's been as useless as tits on a bull tonight.
   57. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2770270)
Come on, David. We need you this AB.

Church has a good approach at the plate.
   58. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2770272)
Church is starting draw some walks.
   59. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2770275)
Furcal is good.
   60. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2770274)
Ouch
   61. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2770276)
Ugh. So glad he's not on the Braves anymore.
   62. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2770277)
####.
   63. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2770279)
That was a sweet play by Furcal.
   64. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2770280)
Not their night.
   65. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2770283)
Is Furcal a FA this year? Think he might be willing to switch to 2B?
   66. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2770286)
Huh. What happens when the ball goes over the wall like that?
   67. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2770287)
Uh-oh, this is where Ollie traditionally unravels.
   68. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:34 PM (#2770289)
Dewitt? I've never heard him.
   69. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2770292)
Chris Paul is slicing up the Spurs defense. Man, he has a shot at being the best PG ever.
   70. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:36 PM (#2770293)
I love the silent treatment after the first career homer.
   71. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2770295)
Man, he has a shot at being the best PG ever

Magic?
   72. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2770296)
Chris Paul is the evolutionary Isiah Thomas.
   73. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:40 PM (#2770299)
Not that it matters much, but walking Pierre is a DON'T if you consider yourself a pitcher.
   74. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:40 PM (#2770300)
<>]Man, he has a shot at being the best PG ever

Magic?</i>

Obviously, Paul would have to play at this level for another 10+ years, but dang, he is *dominating* this game. He's embarrassing Parker out there, and Parker is not too shabby himself. Eat it, Eva.

Ugh. This game is nearly over.
   75. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:40 PM (#2770302)
One home run all year, and now 3 tonight?

Lame. Especially as he's pitched so well other than that.
   76. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2770303)
Well, there it is.
   77. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2770304)
Ugh. At least Kemp is on my fantasy team...wait a minute so is Ollie.
   78. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2770305)
Ah, the classic Ollie implosion. I hope Willie doesn't pull him. Just let him throw 6 or 7 innings.
   79. haplo53 Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:42 PM (#2770307)
So much for the "springboard." Goodnight.
   80. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:43 PM (#2770308)
Um, don't they have someone on the freaking staff who can go fetch that glove for Carlos?
   81. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2770310)
HR bug catches up with Ollie. Let's hope the BB bug catches up to Billingsley.
   82. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2770311)
C'mon, Haplo, give up with only 5 innings gone? Boo.
   83. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2770317)
I've finally figured out what annoys me about about Burkardt. Well, one of the things. He starts every story with "Ya know...". Ick.
   84. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2770318)
I wouldn't give up on the game quite yet. Billingsley's too volatile, it's dark but the light's not out.

Argh, Beltran - why are you stopping?
   85. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2770319)
Beltran with a hit, odd.
   86. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2770321)
That was some pretty horrible defense from Kemp.
   87. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2770322)
Beltran runs effortlessly.
   88. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2770323)
Alou hitting .111? Ugh.
   89. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2770325)
Alou! ALOU!
   90. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2770326)
Argh, Beltran - why are you stopping?

No outs.

A run!
   91. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2770327)
A.C.H.
   92. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2770328)
That Kemp HR is going to haunt us.
   93. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2770330)
Don't Go Into The Woods, SCHOENEWEIS!!! (2008)

####.
   95. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2770332)
Well, that was a bad time for that.
   96. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2770333)
(trying hard not to hate Delgado. Trying..)
   97. Lassus Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2770335)
OK, that deer in the bullpen is the funniest thing I've seen all week.
   98. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2770336)
The Dodgers can flash some leather. Aside from Kemp.
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2770343)
Dammit, Ollie. Stop the walks.
   100. npurcell Posted: May 05, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2770344)
Blake Dewitt is trying to steal the long term 3b spot from Laroche.

So far....he's doing a good job.
