Woo Hiroki.
   2. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2771144)
You know, a win would be really nice tonight.
   3. Harris Posted: May 06, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2771193)
A win for the Dodgers, of course.
   4. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2771247)
Figgy will need to come up big for us tonight. I think he will.

BTW, Pascucci had his first HR in AAA last night. I have a feeling he can help us later this year.

BTW, Pascucci had his first HR in AAA last night. I have a feeling he can help us later this year.

I am optimistic about Delgado. He isn't getting beat inside as consistently as he was last year.
   6. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2771509)
That was a horrendous 2-1 swing.
   7. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2771513)
CHURCH!
   8. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2771515)
Nice bat change.

uhoh - where's c-belt?
   10. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2771522)
Beltran isn't playing today it seems.
   11. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2771523)
I'm finding it harder and harder to dislike Ryan Church. It's easier to dislike freakin' Reyes these days.
   12. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2771527)
Pagan is playing center? Egads.
   13. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2771534)
I'm finding it harder and harder to dislike Ryan Church. It's easier to dislike freakin' Reyes these days.

If Church can post a .825-.850 OPS and play defense like he has so far, he'll be one of the better RFers in baseball.
   14. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2771536)
CONCUR, Koo.
   15. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2771539)
For Figueroa, walking two righties in front of Loney is unacceptable.
   16. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2771540)
Bases loaded for Martin. This is not good.
   17. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2771542)
C'mon Figgy, repay Wright there.
   18. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2771543)
Everyone is talking about Arizona but I think the Dodgers are better.
   19. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2771544)
No harm, no foul.
   20. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2771545)
Pagan gets consistently bad breaks. Yeesh.
   21. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2771546)
Nice job, Pagan.
   22. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2771551)
It's the Milledge 1st and 3rd special!

Beltran apparently has the flu.
   23. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2771552)
Beltran out with flu-like symptoms.
   24. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2771553)
Please get the run home, Luis.
   25. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2771556)
Thanks for listening to me!
   26. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2771558)
RUNS!

HOLY CRAP!
   27. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2771559)
Schneider has 19 hits. All singles.
   28. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2771561)
Gotta take advantage here. Let's put a nice crooked number.
   29. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2771562)
Nice play, Kuroda.
   30. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2771563)
Kuroda ain't fooling anyone.

You know what I like about Scully? He is a legend and there would be an uprising if someone tried to fire him. He is an older gentleman and noone would be upset if he rested on his laurels. But he works harder than any announcer. He does all kinds of work to find out information like Figueroa has a degree in American Studies.
   31. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2771564)
Is that an indictment, Chris? 19 singles seems a lot better than around the 13-15 I expected at this point.
   32. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2771565)
Ooh, blow this open with Church & Wright.
   33. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2771569)
ARGH!!!
   34. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2771570)
Blah. Wright needs to get a hit here.
   35. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2771571)
Imagine someone trying to fire Bob Murphy in 1999 or so and then multiply the reaction by about 100,000 and on a national scale if they tried to fire Scully at any point before he himself decides to step down.
   36. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2771572)
1-2-3 dp.
   37. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2771576)
Dammit. That could really come back to haunt us.
   38. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2771578)
Our boy David is having some serious problems.
   39. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2771579)
That's disgusting. Bases loaded, nobody out, and they can't add any additonal runs? Weak.

This team has been awful with 2 outs and RISP.
   40. Tuque Snider, Resident Steriod Abuser Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2771580)
Did Vin Scully just use BB/K ratio when considering David Wright? And plate appearances as opposed to at-bats? I thought he was, like, old-school.
   41. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2771581)
Is that an indictment, Chris?

Yes. Your ISO shouldn't be zero.
   42. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2771588)
Yes. Your ISO shouldn't be zero.

Well, if anyone's is going to be, I expect it to be the catcher known for his defense. Somebody's got to be the weakest regular on the team.
   43. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2771592)
OK get Pierre here.
   44. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2771593)
Schneider has a .389 OBP so far this season. That's pretty good. If he can keep his OBP over .350, I won't be too upset with him in the lineup if the defense can improve.
   45. Chris now in Shanghai! Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2771594)
Hagin talking about Pierre accentuates how silly Hagin is.
   46. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2771595)
Geez that 1-2 pitch was right down the middle.
   47. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2771596)
See that Mets? That's a hit with two outs and RISP.
   48. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2771597)
With Figueroa on the hill, we really have to cash in more runs than that - I mean bases laoded none out with Church and Wright coming up?
   49. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2771599)
Schneider has a .389 OBP so far this season. That's pretty good.

You won't be satisfied with a catcher with an OPS of 620. If you are, you settling for too much crap.
   50. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2771600)
Schneider has a .389 OBP so far this season. That's pretty good. If he can keep his OBP over .350, I won't be too upset with him in the lineup if the defense can improve.

Do you really think that's possible? The guy has a career .324 OBP and has never had a full year over .330.
   51. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2771601)
You won't be satisfied with a catcher with an OPS of 620. If you are, you settling for too much crap.

If he can hit .280/.350/.325 with good defense, that's an OK catcher. I'd like better but it is what it is.
   52. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2771602)
Wow, thanks Juan for that gift. Figueroa is not looking too good so far. We're going to need more runs.
   53. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2771604)
I'm sorry, if you hit the catcher on your drama-queen follow-through, you should be called out. Although I guess then come catcher would try and do it on purpose.

Thanks, Juan.
   54. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2771606)
If he can hit .280/.350/.325 with good defense, that's an OK catcher.

But he's hitting 270/350/270. His ISO is zero, not 55. And that's 675, not 620.
   55. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2771607)
Do you really think that's possible? The guy has a career .324 OBP and has never had a full year over .330.

Schneider is by NO MEANS my dream catcher. In fact, he annoys me. But career averages and numbers don't discount someone from improving ever or having a good outlier year once in awhile.
   56. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2771610)
Whoa, Moises being aggressive on the basepads???
   57. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:08 PM (#2771611)
In fact, I'm as annoyed as anyone we lost Flores. When the hell did we last have a young catcher, an Iannetta, a Soto, ANYONE?

Bah. Now I dislike Schneider even more. Thanks, Dial. ;-)
   58. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2771612)
Argh, stop hitting it to the pitcher or third baseman with a runner on 3rd and less than two out. Where is the situational hitting?
   59. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2771616)
Koo, he put up a .326 last season despite a .235 BA. He only had a .255 BABIP last year. I think he could post a .350 OBP but that's his upper level. I don't think it's probable.
   60. Conor Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2771617)
But he's hitting 270/350/270. His ISO is zero, not 55. And that's 675, not 620.

Schneider entered today with a 675 OPS, not 620.
   61. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2771618)
I'm hopeful that Schneider can be OK offensively for a catcher. He looks like he has a decent clue at the plate.
   62. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2771619)
OK this inning has been bizarro world. Alou goes 1st to 3rd on Andruw Jones, and then he steals home!!!
   63. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2771620)
Ohhhh I think the umpire caused the double-clutch. In the way?
   64. Conor Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2771621)
Every time Alou makes base running moves like that I am terrified he is going to find a way to hurt himself.
   65. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2771622)
Woo - double steal.
   66. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:14 PM (#2771623)
That was a very nice AB by Schneider.
   67. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:15 PM (#2771625)
Haha, double steal! Alou with the wheels.

Dial, first Schneider's OBP is higher than .350 currently. That won't last but it is highly unlikely that he won't get at least a few extrabase hits.

Schnieder's batting line after his walk.

.306/.397/.306.
   68. Nasty Nate Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2771626)
I'm in a computer lab, can someone explain to me how Alou stole home?
   69. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2771627)
Jeez, this game is talking a long time.
   70. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2771628)
I'm in a computer lab, can someone explain to me how Alou stole home?

Double steal.
   71. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2771629)
Dial, first Schneider's OBP is higher than .350 currently. That won't last

Right.
highly unlikely that he won't get at least a few extrabase hits.

Did you see the ball he just hit in the second? How was that not a double?
   72. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2771630)
Let's go Reyes!
   73. Nasty Nate Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2771631)
was there a throw to second? a throw back home?
   74. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2771633)
Did you see the ball he just hit in the second? How was that not a double?

Dial, he has a career ISO slugging of .121 and it has been around .080 or .090 the last few seasons. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a .050-.075 ISO this year.
   75. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2771634)
Kuroda's been getting that backdoor breaking called for a strike, but I'm pretty sure it's outside.
   76. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:21 PM (#2771635)
was there a throw to second? a throw back home?

Yes on both questions. The SS, Hu, has a weak arm.
   77. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:21 PM (#2771636)
That 2-1 pitch was low. This ump has been giving Kuroda a big strike zone.
   78. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:21 PM (#2771637)
I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a .050-.075 ISO this year.

It is not. I just don't like the way it's started. It hints at leg problems. For an older catcher. It's not good.
   79. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2771639)
Again, the Mets fail to get a hit with two outs and RISP. They have a .172 BA in those situations this season. I hope that improves.
   80. Nasty Nate Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:26 PM (#2771643)
thanks Russlan
   81. frannyzoo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2771645)
I don't follow the Dodgers, but Andruw Jones is batting 2nd? 2nd? wow.
   82. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2771647)
Figgy doesn't really have anything to get Kemp out.
   83. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2771650)
Ugh, Figgy can't be BBing guys.

Schneider's fine, if you don't have too high expectations. He's capable offensively and I like his defensive skills.
   84. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2771651)
Wow, Wright is really bailing Figueroa out so far tonight.
   85. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2771653)
This is my first time watching Figueroa pitch. I'm not very impressed.
   86. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:36 PM (#2771656)
Argh.
   87. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2771657)
Yup, Figueroa sucks. Walking 4 guys with the lead is just unacceptable.
   88. Chris Dial Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2771658)
Good mound visit.
   89. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:43 PM (#2771661)
It's good to have Alou back.
   90. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2771662)
Alou can hit.
   91. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2771663)
This game's going to take forever.
   92. The Mets are haplo53's Zen experience Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2771664)
If Kuo is coming in, that's, uh, not good for the Mets.
   93. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2771665)
Isn't a Japanese tradition for the starter to stay on the mound until the reliever gets there? Obviously, not every Japanese pitcher will do that.
   94. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2771668)
Delgado had no chance against Kuo.
   95. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2771670)
I thought Delgado stopped chasing that inside fastball. No chance.
   96. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2771671)
Kuo just abused Delgado there.
   97. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2771672)
Two outs and RISP, again.
   98. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2771673)
You just get the sense that we're going to lose this game, and that it won't even be that close. Hope I'm wrong.
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2771674)
Holy damn, how come the Mets never find guys like Kuo?
   100. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2771675)
And again the Mets fail to get the hit.

Kuo gets two strikeouts on 6 pitches. You can't do much better than that.
