Mets leave RISP, Kuo dominates, death, taxes, etc.
   102. Capital City Goofball Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2771677)
Kuo has a bit of retaliation coming his way after his bat flip last year.
   103. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2771678)
That wasn't even fair. You could give Pagan 100 hacks at Kuo's fastball, and he wouldn't get wood on ball.
   104. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2771679)
Should the Mets buzz Kuo for the bat-flip last year?
   105. haplo53 Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2771680)
I kind of expected him to hit another HR there.
   106. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2771682)
Figueroa really looks bad. A better hitter would've drilled the pitch that Figueroa just hung.
   107. haplo53 Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2771683)
1-2-3? Too much to ask.
   108. Bob Koo Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2771685)
Wright's defense is the reason that Figueroa is still in this game.
   109. Raskolnikov Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2771687)
FIggy living dangerously on BABIP. Not a good sign when Andruw gets a hit on you.
   110. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2771689)
That's pretty much the only way Figgy will get Kemp out, an atom ball to someone.
   111. npurcell Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2771690)
Does Wright always play this good of defense?
   112. Lassus Posted: May 06, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2771691)
Retaliate over a bat flip a year ago? I'd rather keep the runner off-base than engage in dick-wagging.
   113. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2771693)
I wouldn't hit him just buzz him.
   114. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2771694)
Wright is basically winning the Dodgers' Gold Glove votes tonight.
   115. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2771695)
3 strikeouts on 9 pitches. Dang.
   116. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2771697)
A ball! Moral victory for the Mets!
   117. npurcell Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2771699)
4 elbow surgeries and still throwing cheddar.
   118. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2771700)
Uh-oh. That is a painful place to get hit.
   119. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2771701)
Kuo just hit Castillo in the knee area.
   120. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2771703)
At least we have Gota... oh.
   121. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2771705)
Eh, Russlan, I kind of get it, I suppose, but really, I'm of the school that retaliating for last week is reasonable, retaliating for last year is simply childish. We have better things to be concentrating on.
   122. Raskolnikov Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2771706)
Nice job, Figgy!
   123. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2771707)
Figgy's an OBP MACHINE!

Eh, Russlan, I kind of get it, I suppose, but really, I'm of the school that retaliating for last week is reasonable, retaliating for last year is simply childish. We have better things to be concentrating on.

I'd rather they take revenge with the bats... er, by hitting his pitches with them, not hitting him with them...
   125. Raskolnikov Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2771710)
How's Stache doing in his rehab?
   126. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2771711)
Baseball is funny sometimes. Kuo dominates three batters than hits the 8th hitter and walks the pitcher.
   127. Raskolnikov Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2771712)
I guess this is why Kuo isn't starting.
   128. npurcell Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2771713)
Throw strikes! No one can hit you!
   129. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2771714)
OK, Jose, let balls go by, but actually swing at strikes, please.
   130. Raskolnikov Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2771716)
Good, at least we're wasting Kuo's pitches.
   131. Raskolnikov Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2771717)
Come on, Church.
   132. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2771718)
2-outs, RISP. Odds of a Met hit: .05.
   133. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:12 AM (#2771719)
Wow.

OK, about 0% faith in Church right here.
   134. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2771721)
Church isn't going to get a hit. He'll walk or make an out.
   135. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2771722)
See, we don't really deserve to be retaliating against someone who so clearly owns us.
   136. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2771723)
Oh, the LOBs are piling up.
   137. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2771724)
Wow. Just wow.

Did I mention that Figueroa sucks?
   143. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:25 AM (#2771742)
Holy Timo, Ryan!
   144. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:25 AM (#2771743)
Two outs and RISP for the Dodgers? Homer.
   145. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:26 AM (#2771744)
The Mets are unbelievable.
   146. Bob Koo Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2771745)
Wright got tired of bailing out Figueroa. He just wanted to drive the point home that his pitcher is garbage.
   147. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2771746)
David Wright, 2010 Mets First Baseman.

This team sucks right now.
   150. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2771750)
Wright simply cannot properly operate with that much time to throw.

Ya Gotta Believe!

   153. Nasty Nate Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:28 AM (#2771753)
paging Jayson Stark, paging Jayson Stark... we have an inside-the-park homerun and a steal of home in the same game, we are going to need your assistance...
   154. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2771754)
So much for those GG votes.
   155. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2771755)
Wright simply cannot properly operate with that much time to throw.

It is amazing, isn't it? The more time he has to throw, the more likely the error. He has the range, the arm strength, the hands, and can make tough throws with good accuracy. But give him time, and he makes errors.
   156. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:32 AM (#2771761)
Strikeout number 6 for Kuo.
   157. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:33 AM (#2771762)
This team sucks right now.

They look dysfunctional. Scully nailed it - they were waiting to lose.

I don't know what can change that at this point.
   158. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:33 AM (#2771763)
Never heard Scully being so ahrsh ona visiting team. The Mets must be really screwing around.

Just joined the game, and saw Church messing up the flyball, and David Wright going for Olbermann's mom.
   159. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:34 AM (#2771765)
The Mets have left 12 men on base, and are hitting only 2-12 with RISP.
   160. Bob Koo Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:34 AM (#2771766)
I'm really disappointed in Figueroa. The Mets gave him an early lead, the ump has a HUGE strike zone, and he's walking hitters left and right, and giving up big hits with 2 out and weaker hitters on deck. When will Vargas be ready?
   161. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:35 AM (#2771768)
Strikeout number 7 for Kuo.

The Mets aren't winning this game. Kuo/Broxton/Saito are too much for the Mets.
   162. Bob Koo Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:36 AM (#2771769)
Vin Scully: "The Mets were standing around waiting to be beaten."

I love Scully, but this is nonsense. The fielders are not waiting for Figueroa to pitch poorly. And Church went hard after that ball; he just got confused.
   163. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:36 AM (#2771770)
To be fair to Church, it was a shot that hit the top of the wall that he went hard at and whacked the wall, falling down. He only messed up because the shot he took against the wall and the bounce of the ball just got him screwed up. It was a very hard play.
   164. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:36 AM (#2771771)
saw Church messing up the flyball

That's a little harsh.

Pagan should have been backing up the play as well.

He may have been expecting the CF to be there. The CF *should* have been there.
   167. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:38 AM (#2771774)
That's white flaggish.
   168. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:38 AM (#2771775)
Delgado looked stupid.

Kuo with 7Ks after getting 8 people out? Either he is throwing awesome, or the Mets have just given up on this game.
   169. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:38 AM (#2771776)
All that's left is for Heilman to turn this into a laugher.
   170. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:40 AM (#2771779)
He may have been expecting the CF to be there. The CF *should* have been there.

I have been less than impressed with Pagan's approach in the OF this year.
   171. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:40 AM (#2771780)
That's a little harsh.

I guess. But he misjudged the line of the fb, and then lay there on the ground for what seemed like ages. Though as has been mentioned, maybe thats Pagan's fault.
   172. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:40 AM (#2771781)
Kuo's throwing pretty awesome.
   173. Hello Rusty Kuntz, Goodbye Rusty Cars Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:40 AM (#2771782)

Blake DeWitt is the youngest Dodger with two capital letters in his last name to have two triples and two home runs in the same season, beating the record Jim McTamany set in 1886.

   175. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:41 AM (#2771785)
C'mon Andruw, break out of this slump and plaster Heilman. Remember how you used to do that when with the Braves
   176. Dan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:43 AM (#2771786)
How likely is it that Andruw Jones is really done?

I would say very.

How did Alou steal home? I just put this game on.
   177. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:43 AM (#2771787)
How likely is it that Andruw Jones is really done?

I have been defending him rather vehemently, but increasingly, it looks like he is on the Dale Murphy path to ending his career :-(
   178. Tuque Snider is the new Gagne_55 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:44 AM (#2771788)
Matt Kemp is, so far, doing exactly what he did last year, including the ++ batting average. I find that surprising.
   179. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:44 AM (#2771789)
Oh god that's an ugly ugly stat. No wonder our bullpen sucks. The only team in the majors with no starter to make it into the 8th inning?
   180. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:45 AM (#2771791)
Schneider cannot throw at all right now, so I don't know about his defensive prowess. I don't know if his arm will get better.
   181. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:45 AM (#2771792)
I really hope Schneider's throws are due to his thumb...
   182. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:46 AM (#2771793)
Kuo has a 0.48 ERA against the Mets in 18.2 IP career innings. That's ownage.
   183. Bob Koo Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:49 AM (#2771794)
Kuo is dealing, but the extra big strike zone certainly doesn't help.
   184. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:49 AM (#2771795)
The only team in the majors with no starter to make it into the 8th inning?

That's Willie's decision.

   187. Dan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:50 AM (#2771798)
Wow, that was a hideous at bat by Schneider.
   188. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2771800)
This is getting kind of weird. It's like watching something you'll never see again.
   189. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2771801)
The lefties can't pick up the slider at all. They all are swinging at sliders in the dirt
   190. Chris Dial Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:52 AM (#2771802)
Never see again? We saw it last time he pitched against us.

He kind of has a Fat Sid thing going on.
   191. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:52 AM (#2771803)
Kuo's numbers against the Mets:

0.46 ERA, 19.2 IP, 24/5 k/bb, 9 hits.
   192. Lassus Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:52 AM (#2771805)
That's Willie's decision.

Yeah, yeah, so's us not able to hit Kuo.

I'd have to check all the pitch counts before I agreed with you there.
   193. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:53 AM (#2771806)

   194. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:53 AM (#2771807)
To be fair, he did make a start in the postseason against the Mets in 2006 and the Mets beat him.

Or, well, Guerrero.
   197. Tuque Snider is the new Gagne_55 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:55 AM (#2771811)
To hell with it -- I think Kemp is actually the next DiMaggio.
   198. haplo53 Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:55 AM (#2771812)
We saw it last time he pitched against us.

Fair enough. But this game has had that whole weird vibe to it.

And yet at the same time it was kind of depressing to know exactly how everything was going to play out once the Mets stranded people in the second and third and once they showed a shot of Kuo warming up.
   199. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 07, 2008 at 12:56 AM (#2771813)

Proctor was being warmed up just to satisfy Torre's fetish. Poor guy, what did he do to Joe?
