Ankiel - HE IS A BALLPLAYER.
   202. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2841274)
Petit will be a good pitcher. If a team has patience with him, they'll be rewarded.
   203. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2841275)
Even when he was good in 2005 and 2006, Pedro would give up home runs to lefties on that cutter that came back over the plate. Sigh.
   204. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2841276)
I said that before Ankiel hit that homer.
   205. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2841277)
Stupid Ankiel.
   206. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2841284)
I think I'll be dropping Pedro for Petit tonight, actually.
   207. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2841288)
So, that was a cheap hit.
   208. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2841289)
Pedro is ridiculously unlucky.
   209. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2841291)
Ankiel - HE IS A BALLPLAYER.

that is the second dumbest of those commercials (I lump all the redbird ones into the list of worse)

I love the Issy taking the hotdog from Wainwright?
   210. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2841293)
redbird = Fredbird f course.
   211. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2841296)
This should be Pedro's last inning even if his PC is low. The threat of rain and him leading off next inning are enough for me to take him out.
   212. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2841298)
Whew. If that fell in, I would have made a hole in the wall.
   213. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2841299)
Those Cardinal commercials are all pretty dumb. That does not really change the fact that Ankiel is quite the ballplayer.

LaRue's stache can't power him to drive in another run.
   214. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2841302)
I still have a good feeling about this game...
   215. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2841303)

I like the Molina catching two pitches at once one (at least the first time I saw it) the rest all suck.
   216. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2841306)
Boggs has been getting progressively better, I'm still expecting him to get bombed but he's no Parisi.
   217. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2841309)
Why would you say Ankiel is the "ballplayer" as opposed to say, Pujols? Ankiel's a great power hitter and he's got a great arm (obviously). Otherwise, ballplayer isn't the first thing I think of when I think of Ankiel.
   218. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2841312)
Wait - Ankiel is still pitching!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

So....does he want to try out the LOOGY role? He could still play the OF.
   219. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2841313)
Why does Marlon stink?
   220. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2841314)

it's part of a series of commercials in St Louis

Rick:" am I a pitcher, No. Am I a centerfielder, no. Am I a hitter, no. I'm a ballplayer."
   221. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2841316)
Should've let Pedro bat.
   222. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2841317)
(actually after centerfielder he says not necessarily--or something like that)
   223. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2841321)
Signing Marlon to a 2-year deal is a big indictment on Omar. You don't tie yourself to a player like him.
   224. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2841322)

FSN plays this really obnoxious commercial with Ankiel, centering around the idea that he is neither a pitcher nor a hitter, but a "ballplayer," whatever the hell that is. It's a joke. Pujols is obviously a superb all around player, which is not something Ankiel will be.
   225. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2841323)
FAIL
   226. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2841324)
Uh-oh. I'm getting this nagging feeling that our offense is going to lay down and die.
   227. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2841328)
Uh-oh. I'm getting this nagging feeling that our offense is going to lay down and die.

have you seen our bullpen? only way you don't score a run is to literally lay down and die against this mess.
   228. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2841330)
our offense is going to lay down and die.

Unpossible!
   229. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2841331)
The Mets don't score late in games. The bullpen only has 8 wins on the season and only one Met reliever currently employed by the Mets has a win in 2008.
   230. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2841334)
does your pitcher know this is a minor league pitcher batting right now? why nibble.
   231. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2841335)
McClellan is no Mark Worrell.
   232. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2841339)
no way Mulder pitches in a one run game.
   233. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2841345)
This is an interesting battle then - offense that doesn't score versus bullpen that is incapable of holding leads. This should be fun.
   234. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2841344)
McClellan is no Mark Worrell.

you are a relieve pitcher and you are getting a chance to bat, there is almost no way you should strike out looking.
   235. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2841346)
I'm glad they only list the important stats for pitchers when the come in. Games, record, and ERA.
   236. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2841347)
damn, horrible night.

relieve = relief.
   237. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2841349)
I know his numbers are good, but I don't trust Smith. He always seems to fall behind hitters.
   238. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2841350)
I'm surprised McClellan didn't swing at everything. Though he showed good patience.

Actually, that was McClellan's 2d AB.
   239. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2841354)
I'm glad they only list the important stats for pitchers when the come in. Games, record, and ERA

yep, hate that. Another thing is to list saves and blown saves for a guy coming into the seventh inning, and of course if they bother to list holds, the announcer will bad mouth the stat.
   240. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2841357)
Delgado's range is atrocious. He has to go.
   241. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2841358)
FSN probably stop listing that so we don't have to see Izzy's stats.
   242. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2841361)
Skip at third for a triple, but with two outs not likely to see much come out of it. Homefield scorekeeping is going to give him a triple, I'm sure.
   243. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2841362)
Delgado is a statue. I know he does a lot of other things well, but geez he has no range whatsoever.
   244. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2841365)
Hey, Miles is the interleague batting leader of all time!
   245. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2841366)
Mighty, mighty midget up to bat, see if he could bring up Albert. ----guess not.
   246. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2841367)
OK, I'll give you props there, Smith. Now let's get some runs.
   247. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2841370)
Whew. We fall behind by two, and we might as well call it a night.

What I hear is that Carp is atrocious with the glove as well.
   248. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2841371)
Damn, Pujols leads off too. Need more runs. Mulder already had his "good" outing of the year.
   249. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2841376)
Mike Lowell caught stealing for the second out in the ninth inning with the score 7-6.
   250. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2841377)
What the heck was Lowell doing?
   251. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2841382)
Mulder already had his "good" outing of the year.
   252. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2841383)
I'm sorry, but I'll keep Delgado's stats for the past month.
   253. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2841386)
I'm sorry, but I'll keep Delgado's stats for the past month.

I'll take Alberts.
   254. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:05 PM (#2841393)
What the heck was Lowell doing?

not sure, a hit and run maybe but he was out by a mile.
   255. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2841397)
Good work, David.

Come on, Beltran.
   256. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2841398)
I would berate McClellan for not throwing strikes, but then he'll give up a HR.
   257. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2841401)
I'd try to steal if McClellan isn't paying attention.
   258. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2841404)
C'mon, Carlos, you can turn on this kid.
   259. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2841405)
Is Tony going to bring in Mulder as a LOOGY? I would approve of that move.
   260. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2841407)
I sat McClellan tonight in a burst of optimism. Make it a good decision, Kyle!
   261. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2841410)
Is Tony going to bring in Mulder as a LOOGY? I would approve of that move.

that is the theory, but TLR has seemed a bit hesistant to bring in Mulder so far.
   262. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2841412)
Wright and Beltran having nice AB's here.
   263. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2841415)
Is the Pedro Martinez pitching for Brooklyn, Pedro's son?
   264. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2841416)
how about a strike em out, throw em out.
   265. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2841419)
It's only a good AB if Beltran gets on.
   266. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2841420)
Gah, you suck, Beltran.
   267. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2841421)
Is the Pedro Martinez pitching for Brooklyn, Pedro's son?

Maybe it's the real Pedro, and this is the defective clone.

NO CARLOS! ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.
   268. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2841422)
Well, good job by the pitcher there. Beltran gave him quite a battle. I like Church here against Mulder.
   269. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2841423)
Great AB by Beltran, but he comes out empty.

OK, deep breath, Muldertime.
   270. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:14 PM (#2841424)
I'll predict that we'll have the lead by the time Mulder leaves the mound.
   271. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:14 PM (#2841425)
I would pinch hit for Delgado, but I can't stand Tatis hacking away.
   272. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:15 PM (#2841427)
I'm so glad that Tampa is in the other league. That franchise is going to be very good for a long time.
   273. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2841430)
The bright spot here is that the Cards' LHRP has been SO BAD that even a marginally competent Mulder could be an upgrade.
   274. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2841431)
Wright should really steal.
   275. rembini06 Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2841432)
Wow, it's been a while since Mulder tried to ruin the Cardinals postseason chances.
   276. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841436)
seems a little overhyped on that pitch.
   277. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841437)
that pitch had interesting movement, didn't matter
   278. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841438)
Rask, the way Delgado has been hitting this past week, no matter how much hatred there is out there for him, it just doesn't make sense.
   279. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841439)
Delgado, please don't GIDP!!!
   280. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841440)
Church! Delgado, we need you.
   281. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2841441)
Oh, God. Delgado against the groundballing lefty.
   282. Raskolnikov Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2841443)
I just want to say, this should be Pascucci hitting here.

Nice WP.
   283. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2841444)
Well, there goes that. Yay reverse jinx!
   284. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2841445)
Mulder makes it easier for Delgado.
   285. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2841446)
Nice!
   286. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2841447)
Reese Havens hit a homer today. He has a .182/.400/.545 batting line so far with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts already.

Please, Carlos. Just a SF.

Yes!

Carlos ####### Delgado!
   290. cardsfanboy Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2841450)
####. at least get the damn ground out.
   291. Guts Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2841452)
So, this is going poorly.
   292. Lassus Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2841453)
EAT IT, HATING #############.
   293. Bob Koo Posted: July 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2841454)

I'll take that. A lead!
