Why did Manuel take out Heilman?
He didn't want to give up a HR to Duncan.
   402. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2841584)
Thank God one of the Molinas was running there.
   403. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2841585)
Damn, at least not a DP I guess.

Come on, Skip!
   404. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2841586)
wow, that was a tough pitch to call a ball.
   405. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2841587)
Skip cannot hit LHP for anything.

It's raining again, probably will hit the stadium soon.
   406. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2841588)
previous pitch was a better pitch.
   407. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2841590)
Missed location, Skip couldn't capitalize.
   408. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2841592)
The HR Feliciano gave up was just the second XBH he's allowed to a lefty all year.
   409. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2841593)
not sure if that was a good play by Wright or luck.
   410. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2841594)
Damn, can't catch a break.
   411. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2841595)
Wright played that funny.
   412. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2841597)
Er, other than Duncan, I guess.

Miles - lean into one. We need Pujols.
   413. Chris Dial Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2841598)
Now if that were Glaus, you'd be saying how good Glaus is. Dicks.
   414. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2841599)
Pedro II, get Ryan out please.
   415. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2841600)
Glaus has less range than Rolen.
   416. Chris Dial Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2841601)
The HR Feliciano gave up was just the second XBH he's allowed to a lefty all year.
I am pissed about Beltran, but other than just using relievers too much, and Heilman dealt in the 7th, there's nothing wrong with Feliciano coming in here. Just poor execution.
   417. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2841602)
Russlan, you've got serious lag.
   418. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2841603)
Please don't let Pujols get an AB here.
   419. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2841605)
You need to swing at pitches right over the ####### plate, Miles.

Miles sucks.
   420. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2841606)
Too little too late, Pedro. Time to get do some work.
   421. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2841607)
Yeah, Pedro II usually gets it done. Man, our best relievers seem to fail at the worst possible moments.
   422. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2841608)
I would have used Heilman to pitch the 8th but if you want to use Heilman, at least let Heilman face the RH.
   423. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2841610)
If you want to use *Feliciano*, etc.
   424. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2841611)
Good news - Pujols is in place to hit a walkoff HR for #300.

Of course, that assumes Franklin holds them in the 9th. Odds of that are low.
   425. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2841612)
Huh? Heilman hit Ludwick to lead off the inning. Then Feliciano was brought in for Duncan.
   426. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2841613)
How's Ryan Franklin, Cards fans?
   427. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:10 AM (#2841615)
Now if that were Glaus, you'd be saying how good Glaus is. Dicks.

really? if that was brooks robinson I would be questioning the 'technique' on that play.
   428. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:10 AM (#2841616)
now that was a good play.
   429. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:10 AM (#2841618)
Oh come on.
   430. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2841619)
Oh. I wasn't watching. My bad, that's OK then.
   431. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2841620)
That catch does not make up for the AB last inning. MAybe 2/3 of the AB.
   432. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2841621)
Carlos has looked good so far. I'm feeling comfortable against Franklin, but we've got to get our big bats up.
   433. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2841622)
How's Ryan Franklin, Cards fans?

He sucks, too.
   434. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:12 AM (#2841623)
How's Ryan Franklin, Cards fans?

among one of our better relievers, but that isn't saying anything. He was better last year in my opinion. Seems to be putting too many on and then getting out of the jam.
   435. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2841624)
Who's in against Pujols in a tie game?

Wagner?
   436. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2841625)
Carlos Muniz.
   437. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2841626)
Haha, they're playing deep against Schneider.
   438. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2841628)
Maybe Schneider will hit a homer. NOT.
   439. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2841630)
Franklin was much better last year, but that was a fluke season. He's been ok, but prone to giving up the big inning - much like the rest of the pen.

This inning went well. ALBERTTIME!
   440. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2841631)
Too bad Schneider didn't get hurt by that HBP.
   441. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2841632)
Pujols has scalded the ball tonight. Muniz is one muy ###### hombre.
   442. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2841633)
Muniz?

Against Pujols?

I'm against this move. I find it as stupid as anything Willie was accused of.
   443. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2841634)
I don't think we are going to see a 10th inning.
   444. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2841636)
any chance Albert sees a good pitch this at bat? They have managed to beat him every time up to bat tonite, they should ride their hot streak and go after him.
   445. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:16 AM (#2841638)
Why not just keep Feliciano in? Especially with Ankiel up next? Pitch around Albert if you have to.
   446. Craig K, Cardinals late-inning reliever Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:17 AM (#2841640)
it can be sparta time now plz?
   447. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:17 AM (#2841641)
Its called playing the percentages. Its what good managers do to win ballgames.
   448. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841642)
OH THANK GOD! WOOT!
   449. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841643)
MIRACULOSO!
   450. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841644)
This is like Mr. Burns PH for Strawberry with Homer.
   451. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841645)
Albert - STOP PRESSING.
   452. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841646)
well that didn't go so well.

*exhale*
   454. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841648)

   455. Craig K, Cardinals late-inning reliever Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2841649)
Jesus. Swinging for the fences there, eh, Rick?

Muniz has no outpitch.
   457. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2841651)
Damn, wrong part of the park.
   458. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2841652)
Heeeee!

Heh.

Beltran knew it the whole time, too.

*exhale*
   460. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2841654)
the three top teams in the nl central are still playing, the brewers are tied 3-3, cubs up 3-2 and the cardinals are tied 7-7....

ankiel just barely missed
   461. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:21 AM (#2841657)
Beltran knew it the whole time, too

yep, just playing with the fans....bastard :)
   462. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:21 AM (#2841659)
Can't lose any more ground to the Cubs - really nice to win this game. We're about out of relievers, though.
   463. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:21 AM (#2841660)
Muniz has no outpitch.

I dunno, I've been expecting every pitch to go out.

THANK YOU ALL BE HERE ALL WEEK ENJOY THE SHRIMP SCAMPY.
   464. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:22 AM (#2841661)
We're about out of relievers, though.

hard to believe with an 8 man bullpen.
   465. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:22 AM (#2841662)
Don't throw that 3-1 again, Muniz!
   466. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:22 AM (#2841664)
####.
   467. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:22 AM (#2841665)
they have to return Duncans player of the game and give it to Glaus.
   468. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2841666)
Finally.

Glaus is good at baseball.
   469. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2841667)
That would have been funnier if we had gotten out of that inning.
   470. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2841668)
#### #### tits. Endy just missed that.
   471. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2841669)
That's a tough one to swallow.
   472. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2841670)
Duncan needs as many accolades as he can get before being sent back down.
   473. RETARDO is "Captain Swing"! Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:24 AM (#2841672)
awesome
   474. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:24 AM (#2841674)
Met relievers don't win games.
   475. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:24 AM (#2841675)
Good game - not outstandingly well played, but entertaining.

Good to have two wins in the series, worst case is the split, and 3/4 would be sweet. Boggs never loses!
   476. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:25 AM (#2841676)
Duncan needs as many accolades as he can get before being sent back down.

I'm pretty sure that is why they gave it to him, but a two homerun, 4 rbi night is better than one swing.
   477. Bob Koo Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:25 AM (#2841678)
What would have been the best win of the year turns into the worst loss.
   478. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:26 AM (#2841680)
I jinxed them. I said that I thought the bullpen would be good the rest of the way.
   479. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:26 AM (#2841681)
Good to have two wins in the series, worst case is the split, and 3/4 would be sweet. Boggs never loses!

visitors are supposed to shoot for the split, home should go after 3 out of 4.

but agree, once again I do consider the Mets (not their bullpen, which seems to be on par with ours) to be the best talent team in the nl (or at least top three) so splitting is a good thing.
   480. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:26 AM (#2841682)
Glaus obviously had a better night, but the producers probably thought Franklin would give up a HR too.
   481. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2841683)

The Mets aren't good.
   482. The Mets are haplo53's Zen experience Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2841684)
Everything with this team is divinely calculated exquisite torture.
   483. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:28 AM (#2841685)
Don't get me wrong, I want 3/4. But settling for a split is acceptable, given that the SP in the series has been shaky.
   484. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:28 AM (#2841687)
we are in a race with the White Sox to be the 5th team to 50 wins.
   485. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2841691)
Manuel should be fired tomorrow for not using Wagner. That's worse than anything Willie did.
   486. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:30 AM (#2841692)
The Mets aren't good.

on paper I feel they are (although I would have to reevaluate based upon what has happened this season and may change my mind, probably look at how all the teams have fared in more detail during the break)
   487. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:31 AM (#2841696)
Manuel should be fired tomorrow for not using Wagner. That's worse than anything Willie did.

agreed to an extent, the Cardinal announcers were very happy with Franklin pitching the ninth, since he is our closer and they have been waging a crusade for the closer to be used in that exact situation.
   488. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:31 AM (#2841697)
we are in a race with the White Sox to be the 5th team to 50 wins.

Gotta win tomorrow, then. ChiSox are hot.
   489. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:32 AM (#2841700)
I agree that using Franklin was the right decision. Sadly, he is the relief ace right now.

Wagner should have come in, but I guess Manual didn't want him to face Pujols.
   490. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:33 AM (#2841702)
just to make you feel worse, it's possible that he used Franklin because TLR considers Issy to be the relief ace..... :)
   491. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:34 AM (#2841705)
Thanks, that does make me feel worse.
   492. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:35 AM (#2841712)
ESPN's Standings now includes not only Run Differential, but Playoff odds. Fancy.
   493. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:36 AM (#2841715)
cool, I keep hoping for some reason to go back to ESPN for any reason, I prefer their web design over mlb.com by about a factor of 100-1.
   494. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:37 AM (#2841718)
Gentlemen - tomorrow.
   495. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:39 AM (#2841729)
I like the run differential being in green for positive and red for negative, look at the al east and nobody but us Phils and the Cubs look good in the NL by that method.

I think the playoff odds is a little too early in the season (of course I'm upset that Arizona has a better odd than us)
   496. cardsfanboy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 12:44 AM (#2841739)
Cubs blew their lead....
