Muniz down, Aguila back as a placeholder for Alou.
   2. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 04:07 PM (#2842239)
It's raining like hell here right now.
   3. Joshemy Posted: July 03, 2008 at 04:29 PM (#2842258)
Castillo DLed, other Reyes up.
   4. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 05:16 PM (#2842289)
Pelfrey has given up one homer in his last 11 starts.
   5. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 05:23 PM (#2842296)
Thank God it's Argenis and not Nunez.

So now we have Carlos I, Carlos II, Pedro I, Pedro II, Reyes I and Reyes II.

Not that there's a Latino bias or anything.
   6. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 05:36 PM (#2842308)
And the Phillies called up J.A. Happ to start tomorrow night.
   7. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2842317)
Yeah, the guy we lit up when we took three of four from the Phils last year.

SS Jose Reyes
CF Endy Chavez
3B David Wright
RF Ryan Church
1B Carlos Delgado
2B Damion Easley
LF Marlon Anderson
C Ramon Castro
RP Mike Pelfrey
   8. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 05:50 PM (#2842327)
Oh, great. The white flag lineup tonight.
   9. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 06:21 PM (#2842360)
Other than Beltran for Anderson, isn't that basically the best Met lineup? Beltran can't play every game.
   10. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2842366)
I've seen much worse.
   11. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 06:34 PM (#2842371)
I guess. Maybe they just suck, Russlan.
   12. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 06:37 PM (#2842375)
Maybe?

Every time I start to feel a little bit good about this team, they make me pay for it.
   13. greenback06 Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2842398)
Just tell the Mets hitters to put the ball in play in the general vicinity of the fire hydrant manning shortstop for the Cardinals tonight.
   14. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:37 PM (#2842451)
It's still raining a little, but they've played in worse. This game definitely has rainout potential, though.
   15. Mark S. Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:37 PM (#2842453)
In minor league news, Wilmer Flores hit his 5th home run of the season in the first inning tonight.

In 70 PA, he has 5 HR, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts, while hitting .386/.413/.686.
   16. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2842455)
Also, before the game starts, I would like to thank the Mets contingent on behalf of the Cards fans for providing entertaining chatters this series, as opposed to the usual of us ######## about Aaron Miles for three hours a night.
   17. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2842463)
There is a shot Flores sees time in the FSL this year.
   18. Mark S. Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:57 PM (#2842503)
There is a shot Flores sees time in the FSL this year.

I was thinking Savannah this year, not St. Lucie.
   19. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2842516)
watching some of the giants game. boy, that lincecum is the real deal, at least for now.
   20. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:07 PM (#2842523)
Take your pick: Beltran or Ankiel

What were yesterday's choices? Pujols or Delgado?
   21. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2842525)
Guts - Are you kidding? The presence of the opposing teams' fans make these chats way better than the normal "Shut up, Dial!" "No, you shut up, Lassus" "You're pessimistic" "Your mom's pessimistic!" "Pascucci! creepy heavy breathing" "Willie sucks" "Shut up Cohen" that we usually have going on.
   22. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2842526)
Your mom, Lassus.
   23. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2842527)
Shut up, Lassus.
   24. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2842528)
Beltran.

Is that really even a question?
   25. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2842531)
Your mom, Lassus.

That sounds like an introduction.

I'm nobody's mom!
   26. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2842532)
Lassus - not at all kidding. To be really dorky, I'm also excited to Chatter against the Cubs this weekend.
   27. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2842538)
the cubs chatter is going to be ... interesting ... i think the cubs guys are afraid this is the weekend the cubbies cough it up.
   28. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2842542)
Well, that was a colloquial question. Basically, it's fun having you guys here.
   29. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2842543)
they're as pessimistic as ... as ... mets fans!
   30. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2842546)
The Cubs are in full panic mode, for sure. This ass-beating the Giants(!) are handing out is not going to help.
   31. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2842547)
I used to love the Mets-Yankees chatters back in the glory days. Those were good times.
   32. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2842551)
I guess that should be "these ass-beatings".
   33. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2842552)
i keed. one of my best buddies is a mets fan ... i lost a bet with him in 2000 and had to wear a mets t-shirt to work. when i won the bet back in 2006 he had to send me 10 lbs. of boudin.
   34. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2842555)
ugh - 25 more minutes? LAME
   35. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2842557)
The problem with moving up Flores is that we are logjammed at SS in the low minors. Tejada is right where he belongs - figuring out high A. Havens will probably need to move up the system in the near future. I think it would be foolish to give up on Lagares so soon, and besides he's not ready for higher than SAL. So where do you put Flores?

Of course, if Flores continues hitting like this - one of the prospects above would have to be sacrificed.
   36. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2842558)
Rain delay? It didn't even look like it was raining.
   37. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2842560)
This obsession with 16 years olds makes one wonder a little bit.

Someone reminded me of that Bobby Jones start in 2000. I forgot how amazing of a performance that was.
   39. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2842564)
Man, the Braves are about to be swept by the Phils. If that happens, they'll be 7-2 against the Mets and 33-44 against everyone else.
   40. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2842568)
He's only 16 (swoon).
   41. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2842571)
Bobby Jones was one of my favorite Mets of that era. Ah, those teams were terrible. Bring back Lance Johnson.
   42. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2842575)
He's only 16 (swoon).

That macro's really getting a workout lately.
   43. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2842577)
The best was that outfield in '99. Rickey Henderson, Darryl Hamilton and Benny Agbayani/Melvin Mora. What a bunch.
   44. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2842578)
I'm still worried about the Braves in the future. That farm system is going to replenish the loss of Smoltz and Tex next year.
   45. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2842583)
I loved the '99 lineup. Between Rickey, Fonzie, Olerud, Piazza, Robin, and Agbayani, we were on base *all the time*.
   46. Mark S. Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2842584)

Havens is most likely going to be moved to 2B next year. And the jury is still out whether Flores can play SS or not.
   47. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2842595)
Those teams weren't THAT terrible, Rask.

I watched that '99 playoffs with 2 gay roommates I in the Castro that I had turned into baseball fans. Good times. When Rogers decided to be pathetic, one of them turned off the TV and called him "a loser ##### who would be a terrible date to any Halloween party."
   48. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2842597)
Dammit. Nanny ruined it. A loser BlTCH
   49. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2842601)
Oh, when I meant the terrible teams, I meant mid-90s, when Bobby Jones peaked. By 2000, Bobby Jones was a shadow of his old self. It was a real shame - many young Met fans would not realize what BJ meant to the franchise during the dark days.
   50. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2842605)
Oh, the '99 team was great. My favorite team of all-time. You had the Henderson-Wendell sideshow, Valentine in disguise, The Best Infield Ever?, Piazza in his prime, Al Leiter and Rick Reed as innings eaters...man, that team rocked.
   51. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2842608)
But do they realize what Joel Youngblood meant to the franchise during the dark days? ;-)
   52. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2842611)

Have you written the book yet?
   53. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2842615)
Ok, let's roll. Boggs never loses!
   54. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2842617)
Not yet AJM. I'm still an insignificant intern. I'll give it 10 more years before I start work on it.

My Dad always jokes about the book, too.
   55. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2842619)
Damn, Cubbies coming back. They're like vampires.
   56. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2842623)
game on!
   57. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2842624)
Wow. No all-stars? That's pretty fascinating.
   58. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2842625)
So, Rick Horton thinks Reyes is better than Wright? Interesting.
   59. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2842627)
DeRosa with those 2 RBI. I traded him for Marmol last week.
   60. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2842628)
Ludwick is the only deserving AS, and no one knows who he is. Pujols will presumably be the DH for the NL.
   61. Mets Fan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2842629)
Argenis Reyes? I guess Argenis Salazar was unavailable?
   62. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2842630)
I shudder to think how bad we would be with Milledge and no Church.
   63. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2842632)
No, Guts, I meant the Mets. WE have no all-stars.
   64. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2842633)
Not yet AJM. I'm still an insignificant intern. I'll give it 10 more years before I start work on it.

That's too long, dammit. I need a book to read now.
   65. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2842634)
Boggs can't throw strikes. That's bad. The pen is already destroyed, and sucks, need some innings from Boggs tonight.
   66. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2842636)
No, Guts, I meant the Mets. WE have no all-stars.

Oh. That makes more sense.

You're mandated one, though.
   67. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2842635)
I shudder to think how bad we would be with Milledge and no Church.

I shudder to think how much better we'd be if that trade had JUST been Church for Milledge. Not that we all wouldn't have caused an even bigger whine of misery.
   68. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2842637)
Church is so solid - I wish we could clone him.

Let's go, Carlos.
   69. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2842639)
I have a bad feeling Delgado is going GIDP.
   70. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2842640)
Oh. That makes more sense.

I haven't looked. Who's the better 3B than Wright in the NL this year?
   71. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2842641)
Too bad Delgado is up.
   72. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2842642)
Molina has looked really bad blocking the ball no matter what the announcers are saying.
   73. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2842643)
If Delgado wasn't guessing the first two pitches, he would have drawn a BB by now.
   74. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2842646)
Who's the better 3B than Wright in the NL this year?

Chipper?
   75. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2842648)
boy, boggs is going all izzy on me here.
   76. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2842650)
Ehhhhhhh not as good as a base hit, but it is an RBI.
   77. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2842651)
I'll take that.
   78. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2842653)
Molina's D is in the tank right now for some reason.

SF is acceptable there, I guess.
   79. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2842654)
Haven't looked, but I would guess that Chipper and DWright's VORPs are close as Chipper has lost some games.
   80. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2842655)
Chipper and A-Ram.
   81. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2842656)
I think Easley is going to get a hit here.
   82. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2842657)
Yes!
   83. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2842658)
That was bad luck.
   84. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2842660)
Chipper?

You know, I've never had the respectful admiration for Chipper a lot of Mets have ended up with. I just find him to be annoying. But, he has been better this year so far, yes. Personally, I think Wright will end up wit the better year overall.
   85. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2842662)
mother father!!! they've got to get the maple bats out of there.
   86. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2842663)
VORP

Chipper: 52.9 (2nd in the league)
Wright: 29.2
Ramirez: 21.9
   87. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2842665)
Oops, hehe. I stand corrected.
   88. Swoboda is freedom Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2842666)
Can someone please shoot Anderson for me. Leave the gun on Tatis, so he gets framed for it.
   89. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2842667)
Yes! Killing them with blasts all over the stadium.
   90. AJM Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2842668)
This is the best we can hope for from Easley and Marlon.
   91. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2842669)
Boggs is no Jim Kaat.
   92. Raskolnikov Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2842671)
I'll take the 3 runs. Mmm hope Boggs continues pitching like this.
   93. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2842672)
Finally. Ugly, but the first inning has not exactly been an indicator of how the game goes in this series.
   94. baseballing powerhouse (phredbird) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2842673)
sheesh what a cr@ppy inning.
   95. Russlan roots for the the mediocre Mets Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2842676)
The Mets aren't allowed to get too far away from .500.
   96. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2842681)
Miles/Duncan at the top of the lineup is brutal. I hate Pujols hitting with no on and two outs.
   97. Lassus Posted: July 03, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2842684)
...and A-Ram.

David has more hits, more HR, more RBI, and a higher OPS so far. But 5 more errors. So I'm not so sure about A-Ram being a more deserving all-star.
   98. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2842686)
I wonder if Pujols could take Pelfrey's FB out. No righty has done it yet.
   99. Guts Posted: July 03, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2842688)
COULD he? Yes. Albert is swinging at everything right now, though.
   100. Crimes and Metsdemeanors Posted: July 03, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2842689)
I didn't say he was more deserving. In the all-star voting, David is behind Chipper and A-Ram.
