It's been over a month now since the Mets were over .500 (30-29). In that time, they have been one game under .500 11 times including today.

The talking heads often say that consistency is the key to success in baseball, so we've got that going for us.

Talking heads being announcers, not a band, of course.

No Church = me sad. In his stead, I have the suspicion that Barry Bonds might be able to at least slightly outproduce The Marlon Anderson, but I suppose that is up for debate.
   6. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: July 06, 2008 at 12:41 PM (#2845430)
Phillies are going to pound Perez today. Better score lots of runs.
   7. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 12:53 PM (#2845445)
I could very easily picture Perez going 7 today, striking out 10, walking 1 or 2, and giving up 3 or 4 home runs.
   8. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 01:04 PM (#2845459)
Manuel: Tatis has shortened his swing a little bit.

HI-LARIOUS!
   9. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2845492)
A little bit dies inside of me every time Marlon Anderson starts a game.
   10. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 01:55 PM (#2845498)
Damn you Delgado.
   11. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2845501)
Big K.
   12. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2845503)
Alright!
   13. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2845504)
Could have been a smoother first, but I'll take it.
   14. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:05 PM (#2845505)
Crisp 29 pitch inning for Perez
   15. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:08 PM (#2845508)
Time for some Marlon Magic!
   16. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2845510)
As long as the bat stays on his shoulders, good things can happen.
   17. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2845511)
Schneider has good career numbers against the Phils.

And the Paperboy delivers!
   19. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2845515)
BASES LOADED FAIL
   20. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2845516)
Bases loaded. The Mets are screwed.
   21. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2845518)
Bases loaded, no runs. I'm shocked!
   22. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2845519)
Reyes is a terrible situational hitter.
   23. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2845522)
Bases loaded, 1 out = 0 runs, as usual. Slightly less disgusting than usual since Ollie was the second out, but Reyes' early count flailing pop ups can be a bit grating.
   24. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2845525)
.229/.259/.354. The Mets batting line (before today) with the bases loaded, good for a sOPS+ of 69.
   25. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2845526)
HAHAHAHAHA! MASSIVE FANCY DAN FAIL!
   26. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2845528)
Marlon continues to show why he's in the lineup.
   27. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2845530)
Beltran, feel free to Kelly Leak Marlon.
   28. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:19 PM (#2845531)
It has to be worse than recently. The only hit with the bases loaded I can remember is Delgado's slam and that was with the Mets way ahead.
   29. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2845533)
That's My Endy!

Marlon owes Endy a coke.
   30. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2845534)
Endy is the Anti-Marlon.
   31. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2845535)
Endy making a catch look harder than it needed to be rather than making a play few will make at all look easy.
   32. Swoboda is freedom Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2845536)
The talking heads often say that consistency is the key to success in baseball, so we've got that going for us.

Talking heads being announcers, not a band, of course.

THe band works too. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.
   33. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2845537)
Endy makes another great play. I have no issues with him being the everyday corner outfielder if he can post a .320/.400 batting line.
   34. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2845539)
Perez, get Kendrick.
   35. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:24 PM (#2845540)
Endy making a catch look harder than it needed to be rather than making a play few will make at all look easy.

I agree that Endy usually makes that look easy but that was a really difficult play.
   36. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2845542)
They must cut Anderson after this game. What a ####### joke.
   37. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:31 PM (#2845548)
Beltran does something!
   38. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:31 PM (#2845549)
Beltran says to all: "Shut up."
   39. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:32 PM (#2845550)
It'd be cool if the Mets could hit a homer or two with men on base.
   40. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:34 PM (#2845552)
Kendrick has really mediocre stuff today. His pitches are all up.
   41. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:35 PM (#2845553)
Easley is scorching the ball the past couple weeks, against everyone. I am confused.
   42. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:38 PM (#2845557)
I'm glad I missed that bases loaded thing.

Ollie, WTF. No walks.
   43. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2845558)
Ollie implosion coming?
   44. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:40 PM (#2845561)
I wish every ball could be hit to either Beltran or Endy.
   45. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:42 PM (#2845562)
Russlan, I'm going to start to think you're pessimistic or something. ;-)
   46. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:42 PM (#2845563)
Um, Ryan Ludwick made the All-Star team and Wright didn't.
   47. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:42 PM (#2845566)
Well, he made that look easy.
   48. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:44 PM (#2845569)
I'm sorry, Lassus. I know how much of a drag that can be.
   49. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:44 PM (#2845571)
Who made it from the Mets?
   50. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:45 PM (#2845573)
No need, Russlan. You really aren't that pessimistic, hence my wink. My comment was more inspired by the GIDP that immediately followed your comment.
   51. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:45 PM (#2845574)
Wagner. That's it.

Rosters are here.
   52. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:46 PM (#2845575)
Walk Brian Schneider? That is so not part of the plan you want to be following.
   53. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:47 PM (#2845578)
Honestly, I don't care about the Mets and the all-star team. They need a good rest anyhow.
   54. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:47 PM (#2845579)
Cristian Guzman and Miguel Tejada made it and Jose didn't. Ok, I can understand Guzman because someoen from the Nationals needs to make it but Tejada? Horrible.
   55. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:48 PM (#2845581)
I love how we can't score runners from second base on hits.
   56. TaySan Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:49 PM (#2845582)
This is the problem with singles. It takes too damn many to score.
   57. TaySan Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:49 PM (#2845584)
They should just use VORP to select the All-Star teams.
   58. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:49 PM (#2845585)
Wright or Reyes in for the last man voting?
   59. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:50 PM (#2845586)
The Mets have 6 hits (one of them a homer), 2 walks, in the first 3.2 IP and only one run. Shoot me.
   60. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:50 PM (#2845587)
By the way, the Wimbledon final has been incredible.
   61. TaySan Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:51 PM (#2845589)
Mets are 13th in HRs. They need to hit more of them.
   62. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:54 PM (#2845597)
Dare I jinx Ollie by saying he may be the good Ollie today?
   63. Swoboda is freedom Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:56 PM (#2845601)
Cristian Guzman and Miguel Tejada made it and Jose didn't. Ok, I can understand Guzman because someoen from the Nationals needs to make it but Tejada? Horrible.

Berkman made it, so its not like they needed an Astro.
   64. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:59 PM (#2845607)
Dammit Lassus.
   65. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 02:59 PM (#2845608)
Ollie, Ollie, Ollie!
   66. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:00 PM (#2845609)
67 pitches, 39 strikes. Not so bad. Nearly half those pitches in the first inning.
   67. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:01 PM (#2845610)
Wright made the final vote along with Hart, Rowand, Burrell and Carlos Lee.
   68. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:02 PM (#2845613)
Reyes didn't even make the final vote. Wright, Burrell, Corey Hart, Rowand, Carlos Lee. He should win that.

People, Reyes is having a very good year.
   69. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:02 PM (#2845614)
Wow, Reyes isn't even eligible for the final vote.
   70. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:03 PM (#2845615)
News from Howie Rose:

El Duque today in his first rehab start in the gulf coast league: 4 innings, 4 hits, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 6 K
   71. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:07 PM (#2845623)
He has a knack for getting ungodly run support, you stupid bald ####.
   72. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:12 PM (#2845631)
Kendrick is dancing between the raindrops, ain't he?
   73. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:12 PM (#2845633)
El Duque is alive?
   74. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2845634)
Please stop talking about the pinstripes.
   75. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2845636)
Maybe Kendrick can walk in a run. That would be about right.
   76. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:14 PM (#2845639)
El Duque is alive?

Yes, and I'm thrilled! ;-)
   77. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:14 PM (#2845640)
...
   78. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:15 PM (#2845641)
If only they had an Inanimate Carbon Rod to play in place of Marlon.
   79. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:15 PM (#2845642)
7 hits, 1 HR, 3 BB in 5 IP. 1 run. The absolute minimum they could have scored.
   80. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:16 PM (#2845644)
It took me a second, Lassus, but I got a nice laugh out of that one.
   81. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:16 PM (#2845645)
Now, the Phillies will bunch their hits and end this obscene drama.
   82. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:19 PM (#2845651)
Even when Perez is going well I feel like he is on the verge of an implosion.
   83. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:19 PM (#2845653)
If Pedro doesn't pitch much better, will they have the guts to take Pedro out the rotation.
   84. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:22 PM (#2845659)
Werth is annoying.
   85. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:25 PM (#2845662)
Well, Perez is officially pitching well. Way to save me an anger stroke, Ollie!
   86. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:28 PM (#2845670)
Save it for our offense, Metsdemeanors.
   87. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:31 PM (#2845678)
I love how Kendrick falls behind every ####### hitter with his mediocre ####### stuff, yet he is somehow able to sit down between innings.

Thank you, Jose!
   88. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:31 PM (#2845679)
I like Reyes more when he does up the ball up.
   89. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:32 PM (#2845680)
You couldn't do that with the bases loaded, Jose?

Time for some Endy magic.
   90. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:33 PM (#2845684)
This is annoying. 1-0 game in the 6th, and Federer v. Nadal appearing to be headed to a fifth set tiebreaker. Too difficult of a television viewing decision.
   91. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:34 PM (#2845686)
Please shut the #### up Cohen. You are an imbecile.
   92. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:35 PM (#2845688)
What did Cohen say?
   93. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:35 PM (#2845690)
WOE!
   94. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:36 PM (#2845692)
I don't care if the Mets lose this game as long as Kendrick doesn't get the win. That was far too poor a performance to deserve a win.
   95. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:36 PM (#2845695)
1 run will not win this game. No chance. Let's go guys.
   96. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:37 PM (#2845700)
Kendrick is teh CLUTCH!
   97. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:37 PM (#2845702)
What did Cohen say?

That Canada doesn't deserve television.
   98. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:39 PM (#2845709)
Tv and Elisha Cuthbert.

Go Ollie Go!
   99. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:40 PM (#2845711)
I am surprised both that Endy did not catch that and that Howard is capable of getting a hit off Perez that is not a home run.
   100. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 03:43 PM (#2845722)
Deceptive camera work; thought that was falling in.
