What do you do with the pitchers? I leave Smith.

Apparently, Armas is coming in. Super.

Endward!

Just got in after working all afternoon.

And there is still baseball!

Endy better steal and early in the count.

ENDY!

OK David. You're an all-star, remember!

Oh wait.

Well, you're a really great guy.
   309. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2846296)
Nice swing, platoon first baseman.
   310. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2846297)
...

Come on Beltran!

Wright's not getting my vote.
   312. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2846299)
Gah.
   313. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2846300)
Are they really taking Smith out after one batter?
   314. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2846301)
Who the heck is this guy and why can't the Mets hit him.
   315. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2846302)
I think that's it.
   316. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2846304)
Oh cool, Smith still in.
   317. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2846306)
WHAT A ####### PLAY!
   318. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2846308)
Boy, that sounded like an ugly play.
   319. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2846319)
Be careful with Utley, Joe.
   320. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2846318)
Utley. Cue dramatic music.
   321. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2846322)
Go Joe Smith.
   322. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2846323)
Every ball hit to Tatis. Whee!

But, we're still alive.
   323. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2846324)
Joseph Smith is the man. Dum. Da. Dum. Dum. Dum.
   324. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2846326)
Delgado, Easley, and Tatis doesn't sound like runs to me.
   325. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2846329)
Rollins, Howard, Jenkins, and Feliz does, especially against righties.
   326. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2846331)
Why can't hit Durbin's 89-90 MPH cheese.
   327. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2846335)
I'll take that!
   328. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2846336)
Wow. Delgado, quite the at-bat.
   329. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2846337)
Yea! A runner to strand!
   330. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2846342)
Nice AB by Delgado to work back from an 0-2 count. Didn't think that was going to happen.
   331. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2846343)
Bunting? With Tatis and Schneider coming up?
   332. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2846344)
Really? Bunting for Tatis against a righty?
   333. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2846346)
Good bunt, Damion.
   334. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2846347)
Don't swing TATIS!
   335. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2846348)
OF COURSE you bunt there.
   336. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2846349)
The Mets are torturing because I was only supposed to be at work until 8 PM, and now I can't leave until someone wins because the last time I wasn't listening to the game, Wagner blew it.

Ohhhhh the puzzle of a superstitious atheist.

I'm not sure I agree with that sac bunt.
   337. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2846350)
Easley's been their best hitter, basically.
   338. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2846351)
I don't see how Delgado can score on a single.
   339. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846353)
I agree with Chris. You have to bunt. It's not like bunting Beltran or someone really good with Tatis behind him.
   340. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846354)
NOW you all love Tatis.
   341. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846356)
WTF!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

FRERaFGNSFANAS TATIS!!!!!
   342. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846357)
TATIS! FERNANDO ####### TATIS!
   343. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846358)
FERNANDO TATIS TELLS YOU ALL TO #### OFF!
   344. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846359)
HAHAHAHAHA! That's just absurd. Its so surreal, Fellini would have to steady himself on the furniture.
   345. Devin McCullen cries "Enraha!" Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2846360)
Well, DAMN!
   346. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2846362)
Did that really happen?

I say the Mets have a 50/50 chance of winning this game now.
   347. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2846363)
That's our man!
   348. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2846364)
That's just. Wow. I can't even...jesus.
   349. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2846367)
Leave Smith in to start the inning, I say.
   350. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2846368)
This is the happiest moment I've had this season even though I know it means Tatis sticks around even longer.
   351. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2846369)
I'm going to call a Joe Smith base hit.
   352. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2846370)
I am just glad they hit Durbin. He had been dominating the Mets with his 90 MPH fastball.
   353. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2846372)
Haha. He might be standing father away from the plate than Mister Koo.
   354. manchestermets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2846374)
And that's his place on the roster secured for another month or so.
   355. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2846375)
Oh well.

Honestly, I don't find a Tatis HR as shocking as all that. He may suck, but he has some pop, and has hit HR's before.
   356. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2846376)
This is the happiest moment I've had this season even though I know it means Tatis sticks around even longer.

Rollins/Howard/Jenkins due up against a ROOGY. This game isn't over.
   357. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2846377)
Whatever. At this point, Tatis has earned it.
   358. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2846380)
I've been giving Tatis a hard time.

He's got a fortnight's moratorium from me.
   359. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2846382)
SMith against Rollins/Howard/Jenkins? I say we have about 30% chance of winning.
   360. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2846383)
Well, this'll have to be the inning of Smith's life.
   361. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2846384)
Haha. He might be standing father away from the plate than Mister Koo.

I love Mr. Koo. I remember two things about him. His awesomeness against RJ and the ball Delgado hit off him on a 3-0 count (which may not have landed yet.)
   362. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2846389)
I love Mr. Koo. I remember two things about him. His awesomeness against RJ and the ball Delgado hit off him on a 3-0 count (which may not have landed yet.)

What about scoring from second on an infield single and diving head-first into home plate?
   363. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2846390)
He was out, but it was still pretty cool.
   364. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2846391)
He did that against RJ, Matt. Hit a double than scored from 2nd on a sacrifice. All against RJ.
   365. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2846392)
Eek.
   366. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2846393)
Here we go.
   367. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2846394)
Well, this obviously wasn't going to be a smooth inning.
   368. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2846395)
Ohhhhh it's gonna be that kinda inning, isn't it?

I still say that Smith is a better option than Armas.

I think.
   369. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2846396)
My kingdom for a DP ball.
   370. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2846397)
He did that against RJ, Matt. Hit a double than scored from 2nd on a sacrifice. All against RJ.

Right, right. Was that one of the most improbable doubles in the history of baseball?
   371. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2846398)
He did that against RJ, Matt. Hit a double than scored from 2nd on a sacrifice. All against RJ.

No better argument against the DH exists than that sequence of events.
   372. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846400)
I don't care about Rollins. We need three outs. Walk this ######.
   373. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846401)
One!
   374. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846402)
Ok, that's one.
   375. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846403)
Nice job keeping the ball down there.
   376. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846404)
One down.
   377. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846406)
Walk Jenkins, pitch to Feliz and Taguchi?
   378. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2846407)
Get Jenkins and you can walk Feliz. Only Taguchi is left.
   379. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2846408)
Two!
   380. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2846410)
Nice play by Reyes.
   381. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2846409)
Okay. Okay. ONE MORE.
   382. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2846412)
I don't like walking Feliz. I guess they don't either.
   383. Joshemy Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2846415)
JOE SMITH!
   384. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2846416)
JOE SMITH! WHAT AN OUTING!
   385. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2846417)
YES!!! ############# YES!!

MIGHTY JOE SMITH! HE'S GOT SACK!
   386. Lassus Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2846419)
Now thatsa SPICY MEATBALL!

And I can finally leave work. I'm taking credit for this victory by staying here this long.
   387. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2846420)
Best win of the year. A win tomorrow and they are 2.5 back!

So how big a lead do they squander tomorrow night?
   388. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2846421)
Player of the game, Joe Smith. That was some hell of a job.
   389. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2846422)
That was harder than it needed to be.

There's definitely been a paucity of easy wins this season.

Joe Smith deserves some love tonight. Huge outing.
   390. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2846423)
Getting to Feliz was great.
   391. manchestermets Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2846425)
Smith > Wagner.

Did mlb.tv cut off for anyone else just as the 3-2 pitch to Feliz reached the plate?
   392. Chris Dial Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2846429)
Not me.
   393. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2846433)
Joe Smith was unreal.

He got Dobbs, Utley, Howard, and Jenkins. All lefties.

Probably the best moment of his professional career.
   394. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2846437)
Braves have bases loaded none out in the bottom of the 17th. Houston going with five infielders.
   395. Raskolnikov Posted: July 06, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2846438)
I'm so happy. I won't say anything bad about Tatis for 2 weeks.
   396. Conor Posted: July 06, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2846441)
I was hating on Tatis watching the game. But the one thing he does is swing hard.
   397. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 06, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2846444)
Chipper had himself a day. 4 walks, and was a double shy of the cycle. The man is a machine.
   398. Alan S Posted: July 06, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2846446)
I'm so happy. I won't say anything bad about Tatis for 2 weeks.

I would bet a lot of money that this statement does not up being true.
