Dang, Ross had a .389 OBP going into the game today. 21 walks in 103 AB?
   102. Dan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2862890)
Yeah, I didn't know that Ross had such a good OBP until I was looking at the Reds' stats when I was bored this afternoon.
   103. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2862894)
Another 2-1 count. ####### hell can we get ahead in the count for once?
   104. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2862896)
Endy? Noooo!
   105. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2862897)
Go kill yourself, Johan. If you so much as say a word about Endy, i'll never forgive you.
   106. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2862898)
Forget it, any criticism of Johan is warranted. Ugh.
   107. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2862899)
That's rare. Endy misplayed that.
   108. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2862900)
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.

Just wanted to say that :)
   109. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2862901)
####### take him out. Jesus.
   110. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2862902)
This whole inning, IMHO, is about the walk to Ross. You have to challenge that guy to HIT the ball. You just can't walk him, especially not when the pitcher wouldn't be the third out even if you retire him. I know he draws walks, but he shouldn't draw them from Johan Santana.
   111. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2862903)
I ####### hate you ####### piece of ####.
   112. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2862904)
Johan is our stopper. Of the winning streak, that is.
   113. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2862908)
He just doesn't have it tonight. Rough go around.
   114. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2862909)
Meh, its the Reds in the GABP. 3 runs is equivalent to 1.
   115. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2862911)
I know Bruce hit a rope but if Endy plays that well, this inning over with only one run allowed.
   116. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2862913)
Nice, they're gonna take him out. Good call.
   117. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2862914)
Jeez, 2 HRs, 1 2B, 13B. Not a good inning.

But I agree with Sam. He made matters worse for himself with that BB in between.
   118. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2862916)
Evans will K.
   119. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2862917)
Nick Evans!
   120. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2862919)
I mean, 1B.
   121. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2862920)
You know what I'd like to see here? A drag bunt.
   122. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2862921)
A four-pitch walk to Schneider is just about as bad as it gets, from Cueto's POV. He should be punished for that . . . .
   123. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2862923)
What the hell is Reyes doing!!! That was ball 2. Geez.
   124. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2862926)
Dear Jose,

MAKE HIM PITCH TO YOU!!!!!!

Your pal,

Sam
   125. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2862929)
Santana has been a disappointment so far this season. A 3.10 ERA isn't bad but a 1.22 WHIP? I thought he'd be at least as good as Pedro was in 2005.
   126. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2862930)
A four-pitch walk to Schneider is just about as bad as it gets, from Cueto's POV. He should be punished for that . . . .

He's got like a .370 OBP against righties.
   127. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2862935)
Key AB in the game here. Mets need a hit from Wright.
   128. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2862936)
That was, to say the least, a HUGE two-out hit. Right back in it. Way to be, DW!!!!
   129. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2862937)
Yes!
   130. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2862938)
That was all Nick Evans.
   131. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2862939)
You gotta figure that Wright will hit much better with RISP in the 2nd half. That AB is a good start!
   132. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2862940)
Crank one, Carlos.
   133. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2862943)
Alright we need some good bullpen work. Let's go Carlos M.
   134. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2862951)
Endy must be hurt.
   135. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2862953)
Damn you Duque and your bunion.
   136. Dan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2862956)
Is an Evans - Beltran - Tatis OF as weak defensively at the corners as I imagine it to be?
   137. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2862958)
Considering Evans has played about 25 career games in the OF, sure.
   138. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2862960)
This isn't a good ballpark for Muniz.
   139. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2862964)
Dunn is probably going deep here.
   140. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2862966)
Nah, Dunn is walking.
   141. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2862968)
Evans hasn't played much but he doesn't look good defensively. Even his throwing motion looks uncomfortable.
   142. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2862970)
Muniz, your stuff is fringy. You need to THROW STRIKES.
   143. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2862972)
crap, he had to chase that down and away trash.
   144. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2862973)
Oh, ####### hell.
   145. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2862976)
Phillips with an awful play . . . Reyes really deked him nicely.
   146. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2862978)
Wow, that was horrid baserunning by Phillips.
   147. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2862979)
Brandon Phillips is a fundamentally bad baseball player.
   148. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2862982)
Haha, Phillips. You can't con Reyes. He knows all the tricks.
   149. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2862983)
Phillips' mistake ended up making no difference, with the K. But it was pretty awful, wasn't it?
   150. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2862984)
That's nasty! -- as the kids like to say.
   151. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2862985)
Brandon Phillips is a fundamentally bad baseball player.

But being on a team I am not actively rooting for makes him fun to watch
   152. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2862988)
Brandon Phillips is a fundamentally bad baseball player.

He's pretty good defensively, hits for good power, and steals bases well. You don't need much more than that to be a good player at second.
   153. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2862990)
The ump hasn't been calling that 1-1 pitch a strike all night. I hate inconsistent umpiring. But Carlos gets a hit anyway!
   154. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2862993)
Yikes. Griffey got a really bad read on that.
   155. Dan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2862994)
It's hard to believe that Griffey was ever a good outfielder watching him now.
   156. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2862996)
TATIS!
   157. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2862998)
FERNANDO TA-TIS!!!111
   158. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2862997)
Opposite field???? Are you kidding me??? Sheesh!
   159. Karl from NY Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2862999)
Fernando Tater!
   160. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2863001)
Its a ####### pinball machine. No wonder Phillips jacked 30 in this place.
   161. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2863002)
You know what's weird? I had a lot of confidence in Tatis during that AB.
   162. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2863003)
Nowhere else is that a homer.
   163. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2863004)
Man, Tatis is strong.
   164. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2863006)
Man, Tatis is strong.

What is being implied here?
   165. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2863010)
What is being implied here?

I know that isn't a homer in must places but he just hit a ball 370 feet to the opposite field. He also crushed one in his first AB that was foul.
   166. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2863018)
Nick Evans had a .561 SLG in AA? Wow!
   167. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2863019)
Evans got schooled in that AB. You knew he was swinging at that 0-2 curve.
   168. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2863023)
Nick Evans had a .561 SLG in AA? Wow!

.699 slugging epercentage against lefties.
   169. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2863027)
Don't walk Ross, Muniz.
   170. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2863028)
Muniz does what Johan could not... get David Ross out.
   171. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2863029)
Wow, David Ross retired. A sight for sore eyes.
   172. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2863030)
Siddown, Ross. Finally, they throw him strike three and he wants to complain about it???
   173. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2863031)
That was right down the middle.
   174. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2863035)
I could have lived w/o a base hit by Andy Phillips, to tell you the truth. But still, a pretty solid effort from Muniz as he tries for the vulture win.
   175. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2863036)
Yeah, not bad Muniz. I definitely think he's serviceable.
   176. haplo53 Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2863039)
Is it true Johan was topping out at 89 tonight?
   177. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2863045)
Is it true Johan was topping out at 89 tonight?

No. He hit 92 at least. His velocity was no different that it has been this year.
   178. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2863046)
That was not pretty for Mr. Bruce . . . part of the education of a young hitter.
   179. haplo53 Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2863048)
No. He hit 92 at least. His velocity was no different that it has been this year.

Gotcha. The 89 thing was what I had heard. Many thanks.
   180. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2863057)
Keppinger has just been killing us, hasn't he? Sigh.
   181. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2863058)
No. He hit 92 at least. His velocity was no different that it has been this year.

To be fair, he was at 88-89 far more than usual. He didn't have it tonight.
   182. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2863062)
Splendid, Pedro II.
   183. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2863063)
To be fair, he was at 88-89 far more than usual. He didn't have it tonight.

What broadcast were you watching?
   184. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2863064)
That was Pedro II at his best. And our bullpen continues its amazing run . . . .
   185. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2863067)
What broadcast were you watching?

SNY.
   186. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2863072)
Santana's fastball was consistently clocked at 91-92 on the Reds' broadcast.
   187. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2863076)
It would sure be nice if Anderson gave the team a solid second half in the PH role . . .
   188. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2863078)
Swipe a base, Marlon.
   189. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2863079)
Carlos will go yard here.
   190. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2863100)
Ok, who thinks Tatis is capable of putting up a .725-750 OPS in the second half?
   191. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2863105)
Tatis is such a hacker, you figure pitchers will exploit that. He has a 27 to 4 K:BB ratio.
   192. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:49 PM (#2863108)
.725 OPS? Sure -- could happen. I wouldn't bet on it, but he's capable of it.
   193. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2863112)
I like Heilman's slider.

And as I type that, Edwin rips a double.
   194. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2863114)
Encarnacion just kills us for some reason. It's time to just start walking him. Beats the hell out of XBH every damn AB.
   195. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2863115)
I'd walk Votto here and go after Ross.
   196. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2863116)
Did Gary just suggest that if the Mets called Tatis up in September, they would have won the NL East?
   197. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2863119)
Tatis is such a hacker, you figure pitchers will exploit that. He has a 27 to 4 K:BB ratio.

He has a 126-79 k/bb ratio in triple-A the last two years. I don't know if that is going to translate.
   198. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2863121)
Keith suggested we give Omar credit for Tatis. Um, NO.

I disdain the IBB. This had better succeed.
   199. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2863122)
Wow, no PH for Ross?
   200. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:55 PM (#2863127)
Why are all our pitchers so scared of David Ross???
