What a disaster. Why the #### would you walk Joey Votto?
If this situation blows up, I'll blame it on that IBB.
That said, Heilman has to get Ross there.
There's no reason not to walk the LHB, and expect your reliever to handle Ross. If he doesn't you don't blame the IBB. You blame his lack of execution following the correct move.
It's not Schoeneweis' fault that he was brought in to face someone he shouldn't be facing.
Valentin is a .143 hitter against LHP. Even a LOOGY has to face SOME righties. He just got beat that time.
That remains to be seen . . . .
I expect Heilman to keep Votto in the park and if he can, I don't give a rats ass if they end the inning tied.
What you don't want is the big inning. IBB's always lead to that possibility.
Well, that's one perspective. Me, I manage to preserve the lead, and with the tying run at second, I attack the batter who I think my pitcher has the best chance to retire and strand right there. That was Ross -- not Votto. That was the percentage move.
Dial convinces me the Schoeneweis move was wrong (# 229). But walking Votto was fine -- it just counted on Heilman to execute v. Ross, and he didn't.
We'll agree to disagree. Ross has a high OBP. A walk was a perfectly plausible and foreseeable outcome.
The Schoeneweis decision just compounded things.
I'm guessing DP.
Holy Toledo.
DAVID WRIGHT!!!!!
You could pitch a starter if needed.
All fhe way from CF?!
