   201. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2863130)
Why is Ross always working hitter's counts?
   202. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2863132)
Good heater at 95. Full count.
   203. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2863134)
We're ######.
   204. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2863136)
3 walks for David Ross. This isn't going to end well.
   205. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2863138)
You have to make Ross swing the damn bat there, Aaron. Let him hit a three-run HR if he can. I don't think he can -- but you didn't make him. Shame on you.
   206. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863139)
Schoeneweis vs. the righty??? I would've left Heilman in.
   207. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863142)
SS against a righty? This is very bad.
   208. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863143)
Oh boy.
   209. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863144)
Schoeneweis can't get righties out. Even weak ones.

What a disaster. Why the #### would you walk Joey Votto?
   210. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863147)
Missed the first 5 innings, heard the 6th on the radio. Came and saw about 200 posts in this already and was very worried that Santana got hurt. Glad to see he didn't.

If this situation blows up, I'll blame it on that IBB.
   211. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2863148)
I disagree with this. I'd leave Heilman in here.

That said, Heilman has to get Ross there.
   212. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2863149)
I don't mind the IBB. You have to count on Heilman to get Ross there. He blew it by walking Ross.
   213. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2863150)
Manuel really overmanaged this inning.
   214. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2863157)
Game over.
   215. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2863160)
####### A.
   216. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2863159)
You suck Schoeneweis.
   217. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2863161)
Ugh. I don't like this inning. I should not have bothered coming home to watch.
   218. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2863162)
That's the first big bonehead move that Manuel has made as a manager. SS is just awful vs. righties.
   219. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2863163)
AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T IBB JOEY ####### VOTTO.
   220. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2863164)
It's not Schoeneweis' fault that he was brought in to face someone he shouldn't be facing.
   221. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2863165)
Garbage pitch. Terrible. You will pay for not throwing strikes to Dave Ross, and you SHOULD pay for not throwing strikes to Dave Ross.
   222. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2863169)
Manuel deserves a lot of heat there. If Willie made that move, we'd be killing him mercilessly. And rightfully so.
   223. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2863170)
Manuel shouldn't have let SS face Valentin but Heilman has to get Ross.
   224. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2863172)
How does a two out double turn into three runs? WALK JOEY ####### VOTTO!
   225. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2863173)
AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T IBB JOEY ####### VOTTO.

There's no reason not to walk the LHB, and expect your reliever to handle Ross. If he doesn't you don't blame the IBB. You blame his lack of execution following the correct move.

It's not Schoeneweis' fault that he was brought in to face someone he shouldn't be facing.

Valentin is a .143 hitter against LHP. Even a LOOGY has to face SOME righties. He just got beat that time.
   226. Chris Dial Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2863175)
That's the first big bonehead move that Manuel has made as a manager. SS is just awful vs. righties.
Yes, that was dumb as a box of rocks.
   227. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2863176)
I advocated walking Votto, but it's a scaredy-cat move, I admit.
   228. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2863177)
David Weathers is still alive?
   229. Chris Dial Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2863179)
Valentin is a .143 hitter against LHP. Even a LOOGY has to face SOME righties. He just got beat that time.
Valentin is a .143 hiter aginst LHs, not LOOGYs. He hits better against them. And SS is an exaggerated LOOGY. That's a terrible decision. And sure, SS can face *some* RHBs, just not some with the bases loaded and a one run lead.
   230. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2863181)
David Weathers is still alive?

That remains to be seen . . . .
   231. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2863183)
Tie it, Delgado.
   232. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2863185)
That's a start.
   233. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2863186)
Shouldn't Easley be at third?
   234. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2863187)
There's no reason not to walk the LHB, and expect your reliever to handle Ross.

I expect Heilman to keep Votto in the park and if he can, I don't give a rats ass if they end the inning tied.

What you don't want is the big inning. IBB's always lead to that possibility.
   235. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2863188)
And to pile on, David Ross might not hit for average, but he power. Putting the go-ahead run on base for him seems like a bad move.
   236. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2863189)
Bringing in SS was a totally inane move. The chances of Heilman retiring Valentin are much better.
   237. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2863190)
That's not what I told you to do, Carlos.
   238. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2863195)
Can Orlando Hernandez just be given a designated fielder?
   239. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2863196)
The Mets need to score Tatis.
   240. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2863197)
To score Easley, I mean.
   241. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2863198)
Calmate, Tatis. Calmate.
   242. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2863199)
Weathers is setting up Schneider for the GIDP.
   243. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2863201)
Come on Schneider.
   244. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2863202)
Fernando Tatis, walk machine.
   245. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2863203)
I don't give a rats ass if they end the inning tied.

Well, that's one perspective. Me, I manage to preserve the lead, and with the tying run at second, I attack the batter who I think my pitcher has the best chance to retire and strand right there. That was Ross -- not Votto. That was the percentage move.

Dial convinces me the Schoeneweis move was wrong (# 229). But walking Votto was fine -- it just counted on Heilman to execute v. Ross, and he didn't.
   246. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2863204)
Weathers didn't want anything to do with Tatis, did he?
   247. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2863207)
How about an XBH, Schneider?
   248. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2863208)
That didn't look like a strike.
   249. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2863209)
I predict a Schneider walk.
   250. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2863211)
Nasty pitch.
   251. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2863212)
That 1-1 strike call was garbage. Totally changed the complexion of that AB.
   252. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2863214)
That was a good pitch by Weathers.
   253. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2863215)
Evans isn't getting a hit here.
   254. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2863218)
This strike zone is maddingly inconsistent.
   255. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2863219)
Santana would have had a much different start if he was getting the strike calls Weathers got this inning . . . .
   256. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:19 PM (#2863220)
It seems to happen in a lot of games: The ump has a small strike zone, then begins expanding it a little in the later innings. It's a joke.
   257. Chris Dial Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2863224)
But walking Votto was fine -- it just counted on Heilman to execute v. Ross, and he didn't.
Yes, no problenm walking Votto, IMO. Heilman has to get Ross.
   258. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2863226)
But walking Votto was fine -- it just counted on Heilman to execute v. Ross, and he didn't.

We'll agree to disagree. Ross has a high OBP. A walk was a perfectly plausible and foreseeable outcome.

The Schoeneweis decision just compounded things.
   259. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2863227)
Fernando Tatis, infielder.
   260. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2863229)
Tatis looks hideous out there.
   261. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2863234)
I am very afraid of Dunn here.
   262. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2863235)
I'd walk Dunn.
   263. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2863237)
Simply, Dirty.
   264. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2863238)
WOOO! Down only two runs!
   265. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2863240)
This one ain't over yet...
   266. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2863241)
Who PH for Sanchez? Argenis?
   267. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2863246)
See, those 1-0 and 1-1 pitches are clearly off the plate, which made Jose have to swing at the 1-2 slider. This ump sucks.
   268. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2863247)
Not a good day for Jose . . . .
   269. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2863248)
I know Cordero is good, but that was a disgusting swing by Reyes.
   270. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2863251)
Reyes having a useless night.
   271. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2863253)
Argenis!
   272. haplo53 Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2863255)
that strike zone is ridiculous. Reyes looked like he was trying to protect a foot off the plate.
   273. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2863256)
Reyes II!

I'm guessing DP.
   274. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2863257)
Spoke too soon, Russlan, and about only one-half of our pair of Reyeses!
   275. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2863260)
That was unexpected. How about a homer, David?
   276. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2863261)
OH MY GOSH! WRIGHT!!!!!
   277. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2863262)
THAT WAS ALL ARGENIS!

JUST GOT HOME!

DAVID WRIGHT!!!!!
   283. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2863269)
Now let's win it . . . Carlos I gets it started . . . .
   284. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2863270)
Junior gets that 10 years ago.
   285. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2863271)
Only problem is, there's only Smith and Wagner left.
   286. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2863273)
Beltran really needs to steal here.
   287. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2863275)
Steal Carlos, please.
   288. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2863276)
Only problem is, there's only Smith and Wagner left.

You could pitch a starter if needed.
   289. Joshemy Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2863277)
I thought the same thing Russlan WTR Griffey.
   290. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2863278)
I don't think the Reds are exactly awash in relievers left, either.
   291. Dan Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863281)
I was impressed with Griffey's effort, but I'm not sure even a young Griffey has the ups to pull that in, it was about a foot too high.
   292. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863282)
Let's go Del. Be a hero.
   293. Joshemy Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863283)
DAMION!
   294. Sam M. Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863284)
In business, baby. Doing some business!
   295. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863285)
Easley H+R!
   296. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2863286)
Easley! Let's get on top!
   297. Alan S Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2863287)
Had to go cat-chasing after the Reyes single and missed the home run. Clearly, I should not be watching this game. But I will anyway, so my apologies in advance for them failing to bring Beltran in from third and the subsequent blowing of the game in the bottom of the inning.
   298. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2863290)
Come on Carlos. Score Beltran.
   299. Bob Koo Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2863293)
Fly ball, please.
   300. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: July 17, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2863296)
"Junior gets that 10 years ago."
