This isn't going well.
   102. Raskolnikov Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2864316)
I generally like Manuel, but this guy loves the IBB way too much. Baserunners are bad, Jerry.
   103. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2864317)
You never get that called, Sam.

It doesn't matter. This game is over.
   104. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2864318)
That is two almost identical starts by Santana and Maine: three good innings, then each one fell apart. Not the way you want your rotation anchors to start the second half, eh?
   105. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2864320)
Maine's ERA+ is 97 right now and could get much worse.
   106. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2864322)
#### John Maine. Wright should have made the play at third. That he won the Gold Glove last year is a farce.
   107. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2864323)
Maine's ERA+ is 97 right now and could get much worse.

It certainly will if he doesn't start throwing strikes consistently. If he does, he'll be fine. His stuff is as good as there is in the league. It's maddening.
   108. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2864327)
This game isn't over, though. Not in the ballpark.
   109. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2864328)
At least the Reds suck, so they can come back.
   110. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2864330)
Another Reyes pop-up. Man.
   111. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2864334)
No f'ing way Wright can first-ball swing at that, and give Arroyo such an easy inning. Awful.
   112. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2864335)
Hell of a job working the count there.

It is over.
   113. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2864337)
We'll be lucky to split the next two with Volquez pitching Sunday.
   114. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2864338)
I just looked up Arroyo's numbers and he's been horrible this year. Why does he own the Mets?
   115. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2864339)
We'll be lucky to split the next two with Volquez pitching Sunday.

Hell, I have as much confidence in Pelfrey as they do in Volquez. Bring him on.
   116. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2864346)
Pelfrey actually gives us a shot. I would have zero faith if Pedro were pitching.
   117. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2864347)
Schoeneweis walks the pitcher.

Note to Jerry Manuel: He can't face ANY RHB.
   118. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2864349)
Schoeneweis is so horrible against righties. It's almost funny.
   119. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2864351)
That works. He can face RHBs if he picks off the baserunner before throwing any pitches to them.
   120. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2864353)
The Mets need to score in this inning.
   121. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2864355)
It's almost funny.

It wasn't funny last year when Willie insisted SS could get righties out and guys like Brendan Ryan took him deep to lose games.
   122. Raskolnikov Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2864357)
BELTRAN!! Baserunners. We need baserunners. Lots of baserunners.
   123. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2864358)
Hey Arroyo, your music sucks and so does your pitching!

A bit risky down three, but okay, fine, Beltran made it.
   124. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2864359)
It wasn't funny last year when Willie

Let it go. Willie's gone, and it's 2008. Let it go. It'll be good for your blood pressure, I promise.
   125. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2864360)
I like triples.
   126. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2864362)
Good start, Beltran.
   127. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2864364)
Not good, Damion. Not good.
   128. Raskolnikov Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2864365)
YES! Delgado, keep leaning in. Baserunners, we need more baserunners.
   129. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2864367)
A bit risky down three, but okay, fine, Beltran made it.

I've learned never to question Beltran when it comes to baserunning.

The radio guys said last week that Beltran had said he would rather have 20 steals and 0 CS than 40 steals and 5 CS. I don't agree with the exact numbers, but I like the idea behind it.
   130. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2864368)
Easley was fooled pretty badly there.

Tatis, go deep.
   131. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2864369)
I'd have rather had the HBP, THEN the triple . . . . I see a GDP in our future, unfortunately.
   132. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2864370)
That was really close to hitting Delgado in a very bad place.
   133. Raskolnikov Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2864371)
When Arroyo gets that curve over, it's tough to hit him.
   134. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2864373)
The radio guys said last week that Beltran had said he would rather have 20 steals and 0 CS than 40 steals and 5 CS. I don't agree with the exact numbers, but I like the idea behind it.

To continue on that, Manuel doesn't want that. He wants Beltran to be agressive and if he gets thrown out it's fine.
   135. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2864375)
Tatis not swing at the junk.
   136. Raskolnikov Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2864376)
AGH!
   137. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2864377)
I see a GDP in our future, unfortunately.

Shocker of all time. Questionable strike on 3-0... DP.
   138. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2864378)
####.
   139. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2864379)
That strike call was just ridiculous.
   140. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2864383)
I blame Sam.
   141. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2864389)
You blame me??? You people pull reverse jinxes til the cows come home, and nobody says a thing. Sheesh.
   142. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2864393)
You blame me??? You people pull reverse jinxes til the cows come home, and nobody says a thing. Sheesh.

If Tatis gets a hit, you get credit for the reverse jinx. Pretty simple.
   143. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2864395)
Ah, they had Dunn.
   144. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2864397)
IBB to Dunn... followed by the BB to Encarnacion.

Jerry, please stop IBB people. FOR MY SANITY.
   145. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2864398)
By the way, Rubin said in his blog that Pagan and El Duque are both effectively out for the season.
   146. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2864404)
By the way, Rubin said in his blog that Pagan and El Duque are both effectively out for the season.

I never really expected Duque back this season. I expected Pagan back until I heard he tore his labrum.
   147. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2864406)
With the EIGHT walks tonight, the Mets' pitching staff has now walked 361 batters, fourth in the NL. Only the Pirates, Giants, and Marlins staffs have walked more. Just behind the Mets are the Nats, the Rockies, and the Reds. What do most of these teams have in common?

Yes. They suck royally.

I believe I have made my point.
   148. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2864408)
How do they rate pre and post-firings?
   149. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2864409)
Damn, no Argenis Magic.
   150. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2864410)
Phillips is really playing the heck out of second today.
   151. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2864411)
Reyes is completely MIA.

Somebody needs to take a bat to Arroyo's knee before I explode.
   152. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2864412)
Arroyo's going to get the CG, isn't he?
   153. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2864414)
The game isn't over, Russlan. We can still take this!
   154. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2864415)
First place was short-lived . . . nice while it lasted, though. Sigh.
   155. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2864417)
Yes. Walk Bako!

GAH.
   156. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2864418)
Did Heilman just walk Bako? Paul Bako?
   157. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2864419)
If I was inclined to get drunk, this game would drive me to it in a heartbeat.
   158. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2864423)
Ike Davis is 0-1 today in low-A but at least he drew two walks.
   159. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2864425)
I saw a bit of Havens and if it wasn't for the K's, i'd be extremely enthused. I love his swing.
   160. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2864428)
Marlon, you suck at defense.
   161. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2864429)
Marlon, you suck at defense .

Fixed.
   162. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2864430)
Who's scarier out in left? Marlon or Tatis?
   163. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2864432)
In the game Ollie started in Philly, Marlon butchered a ball as badly as it could be butchered.
   164. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2864433)
Just give Delgado a chance.
   165. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2864434)
K's or no, I'm very happy about Havens. I think he's already one of the five best prospects in the Mets' system, based on what he's done so far but also on his prior track record against high-end competition in college and in summer leagues.

Not sure if that says more about him or the system, but it is what it is.
   166. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2864440)
One more baserunner, boys. All you can ask is the tying run to the plate.
   167. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2864441)
Keep this line moving, Beltran.
   168. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2864444)
At least they won't tease us.

What a horrible game. Easily forgotten.
   169. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2864446)
Gak. That ended with a whimper, didn't it?
   170. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2864447)
Phillips played a good game defensively. Oh well, not the end of the world. You can't win them all.
   171. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:41 PM (#2864450)
Josh "BP" Fogg tomorrow. That should get the Mets back on the straight and narrow.
   172. Sam M. Posted: July 18, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2864455)
I don't mind losing -- Arroyo had good stuff and excellent command. But nine walks and an HBP? That's galling. Ugh.
