I'd be happy to get 2 out of 3, of course. This series will be tough.

Not me, Bob. I want to leave Florida at least 10 games over .500. ;-)

FREE CASTRO.

We've been scoring a lot of runs lately anyway, but we need Beltran to get hot. Hopefully he begins this week.

Castro should play tomorrow against the left Olsen.

The Marlins are a team that doesn't anything particularly well other than hit homers. Of course, that is a great skill to be good at.

That was pretty ugly from Tatis.

If Willingham is struggling that badly since coming back from the DL, why would you hit him cleanup? We'll take it.

Yay Fernando + bad defense!

This touching story brought to you by Logo Feces.

You can't stop Fernando Tatis. You can only hope to contain him.

The Mets always kill Nolasco.
   16. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2878507)
Tatis has great power. That was a terrible 0-2 pitch from Nolasco.

If Reyes gets a hit, i'm going to ride your ass the rest of the game, Maine.
   21. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2878520)
Schneider since May 20: .229/.328/.275. And that's ONLY vs. righties.
   22. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2878521)
You're very lucky, Johnny.

   24. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2878525)
I think Manuel will be much more willing than Willie was to use Castro as his everyday catcher.
   25. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2878527)
Niese worked on the 24th so he won't be starting today.

Man, what a throw by Endy.

Jacobs has been Piazzaesqe at first this year. His ZR is .737. For reference sake, Delgado is at .825.

   29. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2878548)
Jacobs also has a sub-.300 OBP.

Petit and Jacobs for Delgado is looking like a very good trade for the Mets.

Maine is so goofy. Even his gameday photo is goofy.
   36. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2878663)
Maine made the Marlins look goofy in that inning as he struck out the side.
   37. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2878664)
Maien strikes out the side in the 4th. The Marlins swing and miss a lot.
   38. Raskolnikov Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2878670)
When Maine throws strikes consistently, he looks dominating.
   39. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2878675)
That's a nasty change and curve Nolasco's got.

Uggla is awful at defense.
   43. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2878688)
I can see why he was available in the Rule V. That's just hideous defense.
   44. Raskolnikov Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2878692)
The Marlins are not a good defensive team.
   45. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2878696)
^Massive understatement.
   46. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2878699)
Uggla doesn't make a lot of errors which is surprising to me. He is poor defensively.
   47. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2878702)
Wright is pulling off way too much this year.
   48. Raskolnikov Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2878706)
Geez, the Marlins are going to be real good with Nolasco/Johnson/Volstad.
   49. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2878707)
That was a nasty curve to get Wright. A 2-run lead is nothing against these guys with their home run power.
   50. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2878708)
Bah.

Lets go Maine! These two runs are all you're getting.
   51. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2878721)
I can read lips and Maine was REALLY upset at Herbst.
   52. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2878724)
Manuel seems super-careful with pitchers.
   53. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2878731)
The bullpen is warming. Maine doesn't look like he's hurt and is pitching well despite the homer. Weird.
   54. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2878735)
Maine is really ####### annoyed, but I understand Manuel's concern.
   55. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2878736)
Maine is being taken out of the game, with a one-run lead, two outs away from being eligible for a victory and he looks ticked. I don't think he's hurt. This is awfully weird.
   56. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2878737)
That was excellent managing.
   57. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2878746)
Muniz? I can't stand this guy.
   58. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2878748)
His velocity and movement dropped substantially.
   59. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2878751)

Please release Muniz.
   62. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2878763)
By some miracle, Schneider picked that one.
   63. will Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2878768)
What is the explanation for Maine being pulled ? He looked great in the 4th, gives up one homer in the 5th, and is pulled ? He pitches like that for the Phillies, and we'll make him our #2....
   64. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2878771)
What a catch by Wright!
   65. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2878774)
DAVID WRIGHT!!!

Please release Muniz.
   68. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2878786)
FOR MY SANITY, DFA MUNIZ IMMEDIATELY!!!
   69. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2878789)
I thought Cantu's out was gone too. I guess I don't trust Muniz either.
   70. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2878790)
What the hell is Manuel doing?
   71. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2878791)
But his numbers are actually pretty good against righties. Wright saved that inning though.
   72. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2878792)
What is the explanation for Maine being pulled ? He looked great in the 4th, gives up one homer in the 5th, and is pulled ? He pitches like that for the Phillies, and we'll make him our #2....

It's pretty apparent that Manuel wanted to take him out of the game after the homer but the umps didn't think he was hurt so they made him pitch to another batter.
   73. cynic Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2878803)
That was excellent managing.

Chris, can you explain why this is the case?

From watching on Gameday, it looks like Maine went from striking out the side in the 4th, throwing 89-92 mph fastballs with 4-7" PFX and 11-14" break, to throwing 87-91 in the 5th, same pfx and break, but giving up a home run. Plus, Maine already batted for himself in the top of the frame...looks like a curious decision to me, but I've got limited information and would love some enlightenment
   74. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2878809)
He went from averaging 90-91 to averaging 88. It was not looking good. He was injured.
   75. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2878816)
It looks like Maine's release speed to Baker was 86, and he hit one that was only going 78.
   76. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2878817)
Tatis is having a better July than even Delgado.
   77. cynic Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2878829)
He went from averaging 90-91 to averaging 88. It was not looking good. He was injured.

Ah...I see now. Gameday categorized two of his 86 mph pitches as changeups, where they were probably fastballs.

Thanks for the info.

Any word yet on how serious the injury is?
   78. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2878830)
An encore of teh Carlos Muniz Experience? Oh, for ##### sake!
   79. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2878831)
Easley has looked so much better against righties since he started playing regularly. Looks like he shortened his swing.
   80. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2878838)
Easley isn't hitting for the power he did in 2007, but he's been solid.
   81. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2878839)
Plus, his fastball was so bad, MLB.com called it a changeup.
   82. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2878840)
Any word yet on how serious the injury is?

Maine didn't go in for treatment right away and was annoyed about being taken out.

I'd be happy with Muniz just giving up one run here.
   83. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2878848)
That was just awful.
   84. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2878849)
Nice Muniz. Way to cover.
   85. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2878853)
Uggla is a horrible matchup for Muniz.

Then again, so is my unborn sister.
   86. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2878854)
Yeah, the Mets are going to be trailing after this inning.
   87. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2878865)
I anticipated the ball traveling about 400 Ft. further.
   88. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2878872)
I hate this strategy. If you're not going to go after a guy with a .288 OBP, then take the pitcher out.
   89. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2878873)
A 2-out "intentional" walk with nobody on is just plain stupid.
   90. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2878875)
Ross crushed the Mets in Shea the last time they were up there.

   92. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2878877)

   93. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2878883)
Don't throw Ross a fastball.
   94. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2878884)
That was such horrible managing. Oh, and thanks Schneider. I'm still rooting for him to get hurt.
   95. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2878887)
HAPPY! ONE RUN!

utterly ####### horrid baseball
   96. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2878890)
If Feliciano had just come in to face Jacobs, we'd be up heading to the 7th. But Manuel got too cute. Ugh.
   97. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2878893)
There has to be someone better than Muniz in the Met organization.
   98. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2878895)
If Feliciano had just come in to face Jacobs, we'd be up heading to the 7th. But Manuel got too cute. Ugh.

I don't mind keeping Muniz in because the pitcher is up the next inning.
   99. Bob Koo Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2878900)
I don't mind keeping Muniz in because the pitcher is up the next inning.

But then, you go after Jacobs. You don't have him throw 4 straight balls way out of the zone.
   100. will Posted: July 28, 2008 at 09:19 PM (#2878904)
Marlins announcers just said Maine had "sore forearm", but is icing his arm, and says he is fine.
