   1. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: August 27, 2008 at 03:22 PM (#2918891)
Rubin says Figueroa and Cancel are en route to Philly. Now whether they are activated remains to be seen.

Heilman obviously isn't available tonight, so it's possible they DFA Stokes to add Nelson. Not sure what benefit that has, though.

Santana needs to go at least seven. Let's get that one back.
   2. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 03:33 PM (#2918914)
I'm very concerned. Santana is due for a bad start and Kendrick is just the sort of junkballing #### righthander that stifles the Mets.
   3. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: August 27, 2008 at 06:03 PM (#2919112)
Figgy and Cancel activated, Castro on the DL again (sigh) and Our Heinous sent down.

Makes sense, I suppose, although it feels like they could have made it through one day without an additional pitcher, with an off day tomorrow.
   4. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:05 PM (#2919171)
The sooner Fake Reyes is gone and no longer sitting there tempting Manuel to use him as a PH the better, so I'm glad they didn't wait any longer.

I'm about as confident heading into this game as I could be. The Mets could be sending 1999 Pedro out against 2008 Livan Hernandez, and you would be worried, C&M;. Your statement isn't very surprising.

8 or 9 innings from Santana would be nice tonight though.
   5. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:07 PM (#2919175)
I do wish Manuel would led Tatis play tonight. A few months ago, I really did expect to find myself eventually bemoaning the underutilization of Fernando Tatis.
   6. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:08 PM (#2919176)
I mean I Did not expect, of course.
   7. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:09 PM (#2919178)
Real Reyes > Fake Reyes.
   8. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:09 PM (#2919179)
Your statement isn't very surprising.

This is the annual "Road Trip From Hell." In 2005, it happened. In 2007, it happened.

In 2008, it will probably happen.

So, hard cheese.
   9. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:13 PM (#2919183)
That was well done by Slappy, costing Reyes what would have probably been an easy stolen base, and handing the Phillies as easy an out as could be.
   10. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:15 PM (#2919185)
Is there a way to get Wright's numbers against all sinkerballers? He has to be OPSing in the .600 against them.
   11. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2919190)
Carlos Delgado is my hero.
   12. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2919192)
DELGADO!
   13. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2919193)
How many pitches until Johan blows this lead? I'll set the over/under at 10.
   14. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2919194)
I will bet lots and lots of money on the over.
   15. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2919198)
Rollins singles.

Still want that bet? If I win, you refrain from posting for the rest of the evening. If you win, I refrain.
   16. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2919199)
Sure.
   17. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:22 PM (#2919201)
Damn. Utley just missed.
   18. Fred C. Dobbs Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2919212)
Crimes and Metsdemeanors are you one of those guys that are actually happier when the Mets lose just so you can complain and ##### even more?
   19. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2919216)
Drat.

Enjoy the game, y'all.
   20. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2919217)
I really dislike Jimmy Rollins.
   21. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2919225)
I was off by a few pitches, but the point stands.

#### you, Johan.
   22. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2919227)
Sigh.
   23. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2919234)
That was a Piazza-esque throw second.
   24. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:39 PM (#2919236)
Another 3-2 count for Murphy. Man.
   25. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2919238)
The broadcasting guy makes an interesting point. Murphy doesn't really pull the ball.
   26. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2919255)
That ball was hit pretty far.
   27. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2919260)
At least they aren't going to make us think they might actually win tonight.
   28. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2919273)
Guess who's debuting in low A down in Savannah? He's only 17! (swoon).
   29. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:59 PM (#2919276)
Wright and Reyes are going to totally re-write the Met record book.
   30. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:59 PM (#2919277)
Flores is nearly three years younger than anyone on his team. That's ####### insane.
   31. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 07:59 PM (#2919278)
Rask, I am surprised that you aren't showing as much love to Marte as as you are for Flores.
   32. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2919279)
Again, sigh.
   33. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2919281)
This is why Reyes' basestealing is overrated as a weapon. Takes so long to steal.
   34. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2919284)
Flores is a notch above Marte. SS vs 3B (and there's little chance Marte sticks there) and also the year difference is huge.
   35. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2919285)
This team is fun.
   36. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2919286)
That was just a bad break that inning. I'm not too worried.
   37. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2919289)
I love how Wright gets jammed by mediocre fastballs. ####### tosser.
   38. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2919290)
Marte is only two months older than Flores, Rask.
   39. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2919291)
Not this #### again! Please, booth. STFU.
   40. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2919292)
Really? So Marte is a young 17? Sweet!
Marte should be a great hitter given his trajectory, but yikes, he cannot field 3B.
   41. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2919293)
Whew, too close.
   42. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:07 PM (#2919296)
Its called BABIP, assweeds. When Reyes goes 4-47, I guarantee you he'll have a 5-7 game or whatever thee ####.
   43. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2919297)
Jimmy Rollins is a hell of a pest.

I guess now I know how other teams feel about dealing with Reyes.
   44. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2919301)
Motivation is overrated. If Doc ####### Halladay is pitching, you could be playing for a billion ####### dollars and not touch him.
   45. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2919304)
One of the disappointing aspects of this season has been the plateauing of DWright. I really thought he was ready to break through into 1000 OPS land. Too much to ask for, I guess.
   46. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2919305)
Remind me not to make bets with you in the future, C&M;)
   47. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2919308)
Eh, you won. But it was a Pyrrhic victory. I call that a wash.
   48. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2919309)
Rask, if Wright spends each of the next 10 years in .915 OPS land like he's done every year so far, I'll be content.
   49. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2919310)
"Lucky" pretty much defines Kyle Kendrick.
   50. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2919313)
Eh, you won. But it was a Pyrrhic victory. I call that a wash.

That's sort of my point. That isn't someone I'd be willing to wager anything real against.
   51. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2919316)
Ay. But that's the rub. If I had said fifteen pitches instead of ten, you'd still have taken it.

You were really arrogant about it. I don't like appeasing the arrogant.
   52. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2919318)
Alan, DWright will be the greatest Met ever (after Fernando) when it's all said and done. But he's not Pujols-god level, and part of me hoped that he could be.
   53. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2919320)
Hehe, Murphy pulled that one, Russlan.
   54. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2919322)
Unbelieveable. Line drives everywhere, we should have scored twice by now.
   55. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2919324)
What's the LD% on Kendrick in this game? 75%?
   56. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2919325)
This is frustrating. Kendrick looks awful right now and somehow he has allowed only one run in 4 ip.
   57. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2919326)
Please keep Kendrick in. We will hammer this guy eventually.
   58. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2919328)
But he's not Pujols-god level, and part of me hoped that he could be.

Pujols could be one of the 10 best players ever by the time he's done. I think your expectations were a little high.
   59. will Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2919335)
This is the way Kendrick has pitched for close to two years. The Phillies score lots of runs for him, he allows a lot of runners, but not so many score. Might be luck , and I hope it continues.
   60. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2919341)
I don't think that's a DP with Easley there.
   61. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2919344)
There is something to be said about Kendrick's poise and "guile".
   62. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2919347)
Kendrick is a generic fifth starter. Completely mediocre. That's not to say that's a bad thing. 180 ip of 90-95 ERA+ is worth a great deal.
   63. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2919352)
Kendrick is a good pitcher, but also the type that a good lineup like the Mets should rack up runs on.
   64. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2919357)
You've been awfully shitty, David. Its time for you to knock a dinger.
   65. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2919358)
My God. Are you guys attached to Pedro Feliz? Cause we'd think about David Wright.
   66. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2919360)
Don't be so dramatic, CAM.
   67. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2919362)
As a baseball fan, watching David in that park as part of that infield would be ####### sweet.
   68. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2919373)
I love how Rollins is Hacky McHackstein against every other team and turns into Hack Wilson against the Mets.
   69. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2919377)
Put one in the seats, Chase. He's got nothin'.
   70. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2919378)
I wish the Mets would bat Church second.
   71. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2919380)
Go-Go Slappy Glove!
   72. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2919381)
I wish the Mets would bat Church second.

Don't be ridiculous. He can't bunt.
   73. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2919384)
Castillo looks better in the field.
   74. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2919386)
Mets need to score here or this is porbably going to be an L.
   75. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2919390)
Before, Castillo looked like Abigail Breslin in Little Miss Sunshine. You know, with the fat suit.

This is the Castillo, but with the fat suit removed.
   76. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2919391)
Well, there's one.
   77. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2919392)
DELGADO!!!!!!
   78. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2919394)
Delgadit!
   79. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2919395)
Delgado is eating up mediocre righties recently.
   80. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2919397)
YAY! LOOK AT RUN, KENDRICK!
   81. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2919400)
CAM, you are so weird.
   82. Alan S Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2919402)
Crushed by Beltran!
   83. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2919403)
At least you spelled weird right, Russian.
   84. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2919405)
You knocked the snot out of that one, Beltran.
   85. Raskolnikov Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2919407)
Okay, time to bring out the hammer this inning, boys.

Gotta pinch hit for Schneider if the LOOGY is still in.
   86. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2919409)
Delgado could very well have 35 HR and 115 RBI.

Unreal.
   87. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2919410)
To Eyre is human.

To swing through Eyre is pitiful.
   88. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2919414)
Delgado is a pure slugger, the only one the Mets have. Even last year, when he was really struggling, he still managed 24 homers and drove in 87.
   89. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2919416)
Doy!
   90. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2919417)
The Phillie bullpen owns the Mets. 1 run in 10 IP so far.
   91. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2919419)
And they suck again.
   92. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2919420)
Do you have a K/BB ratio for those 10 IP? Not that I don't think Romero and Durbin aren't quality relievers, mind you...
   93. Chris Dial Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2919422)
That's just bad managing. Eyre is going to be insta-death to Church. Church has to sacrifice there and then you pinch hit with Tatis.

THat's just awful.
   94. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2919427)
But based on the scant, BABIP-inflated data, Church can hit lefties this year! Willie said so!
   95. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2919428)
Murphy didn't take a good route to the ball.
   96. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2919429)
Horrible route by Murphy.
   97. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2919433)
Unless Endy is playing out there, nobody comes close to catching that double.
   98. will Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2919434)
I'll be shocked if Howard doesn't K.
   99. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2919435)
A good outfielder makes that play. Maybe not Evans or Tatis but a good OFer.
   100. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: August 27, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2919439)
"I'll be shocked if Howard doesn't K."

IT'S ALL COMING UP PHILLIES!
