New York Yankees (92-64) at Baltimore Orioles (70-86) - 7:05 PM EDT

NYY: Mussina (13-8, 4.20)
BAL: Chen (12-10, 3.60)

If Good Moose shows up, it would be a good thing and much appreciated.

Any pitcher is Good Moose vs. the Orioles.

The sad thing about the O's is that they really won't be better next year. Assuming they get Roberts back, and that Young is the 1Bman, they'll have the infield covered, but they'll have no outfielders, no bullpen, and their rotation is very thin. So much for challenging the Sox and Yankees in the future.

their rotation is very thin

Well, you drop all of those Sidney Ponson pounds, any rotation will be thin! Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week. Seriously, I think you're being a little harsh on the O's, levski, Daniel Cabrera has a chance to be real good, I think, and with Chen, Bedard, Maine and Hayden Penn, they have a chance to piece together a decent rotation. Now some of those guys won't pan out--and Chen is no kid--but on the whole, I don't think it is as dire as you imply
   4. 1k5v3L Posted: September 27, 2005 at 12:54 PM (#1645858)
OK, so the rotation will be decent. The rest of the team will still suck. If only the Dbacks didn't try to build their team as a copy of the O's...

Players from the 1997 World Series on the Yankees and Red Sox:

(Marlins)
Edgar Renteria
Gary Sheffield
Kevin Brown
Al Leiter

not on the current roster, Primer fave Felix Heredia!

(Indians)
Manny Ramirez
Jaret Wright

not on the current roster, Primer fave Enrique Wilson!

also playing big games today:

Gregg Zaun
Mark Kotsay

Those Marlins were stacked.

The Oakland A's are done. They are dead. Their season is over. They have absolutely no chance of making the palyoffs. They gave it a valient effort, but need to play better in May next year.

The sad thing about the O’s is that they really won’t be better next year.

I must have missed the legislation prohibiting the O's from making any offseason moves - was this retaliation for the Palmeiro appearance on Capitol Hill? I guess they'd better complete the Rodrigo Lopez-Conor Jackson deal before the end of the season...

No clue what Gammons is talking about; Jeter will never reach his 1999 season again. He's having a pretty good year though, even though it doesn't feel like it.
   33. Sean McNally Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:16 PM (#1647199)
Jeter's career average: .314/.386/.462
Jeter's season average: .312/.393/.453

So he's doing exactly what he always does...

SHEFF!!

If jeter never had that 1999, would primates view him differently? as in, more favorably? he'd probably be less overated by the mainstream.

He might seem less of a disappointment not knowing how good he was at his very best. Sometimes it seems like he buys into the "plays the right way" hype and tries to poke singles into RF rather than trying to pull the ball. He was plenty overrated before '99 though.

I’m not complaining exactly, but why is Al Leiter throwing strikes?

It's his Rocky II impression... when Rock fought Apollo righthanded, then switched to southpaw.

He's trying to get the O's off balance.

It's not so hard. Elizabeth Bishop said so:

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Well I'm off for vacation, but I'll leave you with this ditty from Will Carroll's Under the Looking Glass:

You are Old, Bernie Williams

"You are old, Bernie Williams," the young fan squealed,
"And your legs have become very slow;
You look like a monument in center field -
That's really as fast as you go?"

"In my youth," Bernie Williams replied to his fan,
"I ran like a deer through the grass;
But now I am happy to just wave my hand
And hope I don't fall on my ass."

"You are old," cried the fan, "And your throws always stank,
But now every one has six bounces.
We're all now embarassed that you're still a Yank -
How is it your arm strength's mere ounces?"

"In my youth," said the Bomber, "I lived by the sea,
And rested my arm on the beach,
My biceps has always been small as a pea,
And my throws never sail out of reach."

"You are old," screamed the fan, "And you can't touch that pitch!
You won't hit it over the fences -
Just take it, you decrepit son of a #####,
Have you taken leave of your senses?"

"In my youth," said the slugger, "I outhit my peers,
My post-season feats were quite clever;
So Steinbrenner signed me for umpteen more years,
And you'll have to watch me forever."
