Finally, I get to break out "Big Game" Andy Pettitte's Up-to-the-Minute Postseason ERA Update.

Cal says, "Big Time, Big Game," but I don't like the ring.

Curtis Granderson is pretty damned impressive in the studio here.

Time to start up my totally irrelevant analysis that may or may not have anything to do with the game in progress, baseball in general or the universe itself.

FUN WITH ANAGRAMS:

Andrew Eugene Pettitte= Entered up teenage twit.

Fausto Carmona= An amorous fact.

...I have no idea what this may mean, but it's funny.
   7. Urban Faber Posted: October 05, 2007 at 04:57 PM (#2562026)
Are they just going to keep adding guys in the studio until they have 15 guys in there for Game 7 of the NLCS?
   8. PhillyBooster Posted: October 05, 2007 at 04:58 PM (#2562029)
So, what's going on at the stadium? Does "5:00 start" today mean "5:12 start", or does it mean "5:47 start"?

I've got to plan my commute for maximum game listening.

Are they just going to keep adding guys in the studio until they have 15 guys in there for Game 7 of the NLCS?

Do you have something wrong with the studio crew of Ernie Johnson, Cal Ripken, Frank Thomas, Curtis Granderson, Rickey Henderson, Jack Mckeon, Mr. Met, Ryan Howard, Eric Byrnes' dog, Alyssa Milano, Frank Caliendo, Dane Cook, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp and Ted Williams' frozen head?

I could watch that replay of CC striking out Jeter all day long...

Fausto Carmona? Sofa #### Aroma.

   22. Lassus Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:13 PM (#2562061)
After last night's start, there's no way they wouldn't start Lofton. Besides, he's kind of a jerk, and he'd most likely crow.

A-Rod needs to take this team over from Jeter with this game right here.

I have watched every Fausto start this year. He has it today. For some reason he loves pitching during the day.

   34. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:19 PM (#2562076)
Fausto is 9-1 during the day with a 2.14 ERA
   35. Lassus Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:21 PM (#2562077)
But finishes with a pretty good grade.
   36. Dan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:21 PM (#2562078)
This gun seems pretty hot, Pettitte throwing cutters at 92-93?
   37. salajander Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:21 PM (#2562079)
Well, that inning by Andy ended up being much better than it looked like it was going to be.

A-Rod is up... and pops up.
   41. Urban Faber Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:29 PM (#2562087)
These commercial breaks seem long?

Wait till they hit double digits in the studio. They'll have to get everyone's thoughts on the game.

Overall I'm OK with TBS though.
   42. Mattbert Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:29 PM (#2562088)
This gun seems pretty hot, Pettitte throwing cutters at 92-93?

I'm still suspicious of the TBS gun. Even though I wouldn't mind believing that Beckett was working a consistant 96-98 with his fastball right through the 9th, I just don't find that credible. I don't think Pettitte cracked 91 on NESN's gun this year, so I reckon TBS's is probably 2-3 mph off.
   43. Tony H. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:30 PM (#2562089)
nice
   44. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:30 PM (#2562090)
Fausto does have a 97 MPH sinker so the gun may not be that off.
   45. Dan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:31 PM (#2562091)
So...any chance of Posada being the goat if NYY get swept?
   46. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:33 PM (#2562095)
Nope, it will be Arod.
   47. Dan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:34 PM (#2562096)
I guess. I dunno, Posada's K last night after going up 3-0 with the bases loaded was probably the turning point in last night's game, and that DP here let Carmona off the hook early.
   48. Urban Faber Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:35 PM (#2562098)
That might be a record for mask toss.
   49. Mattbert Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:35 PM (#2562099)
Fausto does have a 97 MPH sinker so the gun may not be that off.

Really? I feel like I'm channeling Harvey here, but that seems like a stretch. That's like a Pedro Martinez 4-seamer, circa 1999.
   50. Tony H. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:35 PM (#2562100)
I think Bernal is just saying that A-Rod will be blamed regardless of what happens.

But I don't like to talk about sweeps for fear of jinxes.
   51. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:36 PM (#2562102)
Fausto has really good stuff.

Queen Latifah proving herself a pretty good fan. Watching the Rockies? That makes you a fan.
   53. Mattbert Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:37 PM (#2562104)
Not that there's anything wrong with a 94-mph sinker that's as heavy as Carmona's ball looks. I mean, that's ridiculous enough right there.
   54. Tony H. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:37 PM (#2562105)
Not sure about that green light on 3-0 there. Hindsight's 20/20 though, I suppose.

Yeah, that's a questionable hack when the guy had an 8-pitch 1st.

First Big Game Pitcher reference?

No, there was one earlier.
   62. Dan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:43 PM (#2562121)
Man, Andy hasn't taken Roger's lessons very well, not grabbing the bat to throw it back to Lofton.
   63. Bowling Baseball Fan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:43 PM (#2562122)
I've always loved this stadium. The flat faced middle section makes the upper deck seem like its right on top of you.
   64. Dan Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:43 PM (#2562123)
And by "to," I mean "at"
   65. Tony H. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:43 PM (#2562124)
wow, a jhonny steal off pettitte. was not expecting that.
   66. Lassus Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:43 PM (#2562125)
Something tells me if someone threw a bat that close to Lofton he'd pick it up and go after them.

wow Peralta is slow
   72. Lassus Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2562131)
The Indians' 3B coach should be slapped for allowing Peralta to run on Melky. Even I knew that was a bad idea and I'm not being paid to know such things.
   73. AuntBea Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2562132)
At first I thought Jhonny took too long to make the transfer and throw, but maybe he saw how much time he had.
   74. Urban Faber Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2562133)
Andy hasn't taken Roger's lessons very well, not grabbing the bat to throw it back to Lofton.

Roger will deck him in Game 3, don't worry ...

oops i mean melky. what game am i watching again?
   78. Tony H. Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:46 PM (#2562139)
Skins has not had a good year at 3rd base, it seems to me.

OK OK I was late to the anagram party.

A shame that Fausto's deal with the devil didn't involve giving Peralta speed.

yuck
   89. Dr Love Posted: October 05, 2007 at 05:52 PM (#2562155)
Why is Mientkiewicz starting? I can understand his usefulness last night with Wang on the mound, but at some point you have to put your bench players on, you know, the bench. Reminds me of the 2005 playoffs when Torre was starting Bubba Crosby in CF.

Kinda funny that the two guys to open up the scoring today and yesterday with homeruns were Melky and Damon.
