Chins up, fellas. The Cubs tie it up tonight.

Was that Pole Dancers Day at Wrigley or something?

It reminded me of 2003 and the extensive discussions of Lincoln Park Trixies around these parts.

Oh, www.lptrixie.com may have bitten the dust (*wipes tear*), but the LP Trixies themselves are still very much in evidence.

What was up with that blonde in the black top they kept focusing on until she took her bra off? She was probably about the 10,000th hottest woman in the ballpark that day.

If/when the Cubs win tonight, I like their chances of closing it out in 4.

Not making any predictions, just sayin'. And this, of course, is contingent on the Cubs hitting Davis a lot better than they have in the past. Apparently Davis's career ERA against the Cubs is 3.39--I'm surprised it's that high.

I streaked the lounge today (page 14). That should be enough to put the Cubs over the top today.

Have you ever seen the Cubs' fan cam? Hell, that's probably just a snippet of the crew's personal stash.

Quite the downer so far. Soriano doesn't look worth $136 thousand. Ramirez is hitting into some bad luck and Lilly just looks lousy.

Well, just got back from poker, and I took a world class beatdown. Was hoping the Cubs were doing better, but alas, it's not my night.

BTW, what's with the extra light turnout?
   38. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:23 PM (#2560951)
Okay, get Lilly out of there.
   39. zonk Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:25 PM (#2560954)
If we get 5 innings of 4 run ball out of Lilly, we should consider ourselves fortunate, the way he's throwing.

Without 2 DPs, this could be a lot worse.

The light turnout. Not Lilly sucking though.

Anyone else finding the noticeable shift in sound pitch any time they switch camera angles terribly irritating?
   43. AuntBea Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:29 PM (#2560959)
Not to worry, I was assured during yesterday's game that the pitching matchup tonight so favors the Cubs that a win is all but guaranteed, rendering yesterday's 1-1 tie in the seventh inning a low leverage situation. The Cubs will be way ahead any minute now.

What are these boneheads swinging at? Have they learned nothing from Lilly vis-a-vis TAKING pitches and the pressure it puts on the pitcher. I'll give this thing till the end of the fifth and then it's bedtime.

I'm still struggling to figure out how the Cubs were considered the favorites here. I questioned a couple days ago whether anyone was considered about:

1) the Cubbies being absolute dog #### in Arizona, even during the DBacks' low years
2) the Cubs having no clue how to hit lefties

I hate to think that their season may hinge on Saturday's outcome, but they look absolutely clueless right now.
   50. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:37 PM (#2560966)
Small consolation: Davis is at 75 pitches and facing the top of the order in the 5th inning.
   51. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:37 PM (#2560968)
The Cubs weren't universally considered favorites, I don't think.
   52. Sweet Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:39 PM (#2560971)
What's the rule? Ojeda's feet were both far outside the box, but his body was leaving over. I'm assuming the ump blew the call, but Lou was surprisingly restrained.

When Augie F Ojeda has more hits than Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez combined, you know you are in trouble.

Is Soto out there to stall for Hart?
   56. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:44 PM (#2560978)
The applicable rule:

7.08
Any runner is out when --
(a) (1) He runs more than three feet away from his baseline to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s baseline is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely
   57. zonk Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:44 PM (#2560979)
It figures.

The Cubs collect utility MI like Chris Truby collects pentagrams and the one they let go along time ago picks now to become a royal PAI.
   58. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:46 PM (#2560980)

I thought it was already at that point when it was 4-2 given how the Cub offense has looked like a god damn tee-ball team tonight.

I'm quickly running out of NL teams besides the Cubs that I don't bear a grudge against.

I may soon have to add teh DBacks to a list that already includes the Padres, Mets, Cardinals, Braves, Giants, and Marlins.

Meh. I figured .500 this year would be a success. Playoffs was a huge bonus. While it may suck to lose to a team which allowed more runs than they scored, I can't muster too much outrage over an 85 win team going nowhere.

Anyone else getting 2003 NLCS deja vu? Pesky little hitters who will not die and then getting key hits?
   72. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 04, 2007 at 11:53 PM (#2560996)

Is it me or do none of the DS series have the look of going to a 5th game? I know it's early still, and a lot can happen in Game 2/3 for all of them, but from the way all the teams have been playing, I wouldn't bet on seeing a single game 5.

Yeah Dick. Generally, when you take 45 seconds to get to first, you have little chance at a double.
