I have a big exam tonight from 8:15-10:15. Bah.

Have they yet announced what time the Friday game will be? I can't find one on ESPN or the Mets or ESPN's websites. This is a friggin' outrage. If it's in the afternoon, I'll have to dump my tickets, and they're giving me less than 24 hours (realistically, less than 6) to be able to do so.
   4. Van Lingle Mungo Jerry Posted: October 12, 2006 at 12:49 PM (#2208345)
MLB's website, I meant.

It's still saying TBD on mlb.com and I wouldn't trust a non-official source on that one, VLMJ.

"Note: Fans holding tickets originally marked for Game 1 on Wednesday can only used those tickets for Friday's game, the time for which has yet to be determined. Tickets marked Game 2 are to be used for Thursday's game."

Has LaRussa decided yet if Carpenter is going Friday or Saturday?
   8. Karl from NY Posted: October 12, 2006 at 01:01 PM (#2208362)
I posted this yesterday, but it got a bit lost among the other news...

Fun stat: The Mets franchise is now ahead of the Yankees in all-time postseason series winning percentage. The Mets are 9-4, .692 and the Yankees are 44-21, .677.

To remain ahead this year, we need to win out our two more series.

And the all-time leaders in the stat are of course the Florida Marlins (6-0, 1.000) so make of that what you will...

With that rotation, it might be Friday and Saturday.

Someone said yesterday that they are worried about the forecast in Detroit, and if it is looking really bad (cold) for playing a night game, they may make that the day game and the Mets/Cardinals the night game. If it's playable for night baseball in Detroit, though, they'd rather have this game be the afternoon one on Friday, for purposes of allowing the teams to travel to St. Louis.

So . . . what's the current forecast for Friday night in Detroit???
   11. Richard Simmons Posted: October 12, 2006 at 01:53 PM (#2208433)
Mets/Cardinals 8PM on Friday.

Tigers/As moved up to 4PM.
   12. Richard Simmons Posted: October 12, 2006 at 01:54 PM (#2208434)
....as just reported on WFAN I should add.

Weather.com says showers
   14. Banta Posted: October 12, 2006 at 02:19 PM (#2208461)
I had a dream last night that Wright was playing shortstop and Reyes was playing third.

Read into that what you will.
   15. Fat Al Posted: October 12, 2006 at 03:58 PM (#2208584)
That scheduling just seems so dumb. The teams that have to travel get the later game? They will get to St. Louis when? 4:00 a.m.? If they're lucky. They would be smarter to send them back to the hotels in NY and then fly at 11:00 on Saturday.
   16. Fat Al Posted: October 12, 2006 at 04:02 PM (#2208589)
Weather Underground has the same 30% chance of rain in Detroit at 4 as they do at 8. So that probably isn't it. I think the reasoning was the cold, though the forecast is 45 degrees at 5:00 and 41 degrees at 11:00, frigid but not a big difference. It was just an excuse to put Mets/Cards at night and screw everyone.
   17. Fat Al Posted: October 12, 2006 at 04:07 PM (#2208595)
Okay and my last point in this monologue is that it's forecast to be 46 degrees in NY at 11:00 tomorrow, so the reasoning is a complete charade.
   18. Alan S Posted: October 12, 2006 at 04:12 PM (#2208602)
Now I cannot watch the game tomorrow night. I hate Fox.

It will be potentially snow showering in Detroit on Friday night, which is not the best environment for baseball. Today is the earliest snow in Southern MI in decades, if not of all-time.

I will be attending tonight's game. Look for the bitter Yankees fan trying not to piss off his ardent Mets-fan friend with a lack of appropriate excitement.

Maybe it's because Delgado has totally PWN3D Weaver in his career. .500/.620/.974 in 38 ABs.

On the one hand, that is a comically ferocious line. On the other hand, it's Jeff Weaver, the bleary-eyed bum.

Those are some sweet numbers. But keep quiet -- or mgl will come on here saying "individual matchup statistics have NO predictive value" and then peddle his book.

Mets win tonight 8-7

Think it'll be that close? Mets win the series in five games. Cardinals win one game when Jeff Suppan inexplicably spins a gem. Each Mets win is by at least three runs.
   27. Fat Al Posted: October 12, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2208732)

Van Lingle Mungo *OR ANYONE ELSE* that has to dump tickets better call me first. I will drop everything and fly to NY at a moments notice. If there is a gap in time that lets me et to NY, please offer them to me, the biggest mMet fan around
   31. Banta Posted: October 12, 2006 at 07:49 PM (#2208786)
I'd love to be able to go to one of these games, but I don't make nearly enough money to do so. Hell, I haven't even been able to go back to NYC since the 90s.

I promise I will make it back to Shea before the new stadium though. That place may be a bit of a dirt heap now, but it's my damn home!
   32. Banta Posted: October 12, 2006 at 07:55 PM (#2208790)
Alright, completely unrelated, but I hope that one of you will appreciate this.

I'm watching Jeopardy right now and I always thought that the way to beat Jeopardy is to trend water until Final Jeopardy and then in Final Jeopardy bet a negative amount of money, say -100,000 dollars, and then get the question wrong.

It's foolproof, right?!
   33. Fat Al Posted: October 12, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2208792)

Bingo. I had three friends coming over for tomorrow nite's game.

Oh, and Go Mets. I mean, if the Tigers make it, they scare me much more than the Cards, but 1) I love Delgado, and I can't cheer for a Larussa managed team.
