The best-of-seven series will now begin Thursday night, and Game 2 at Shea Stadium is to be played Friday—which was supposed to be an off day in the series… Tickets for Game 1 will be honored Friday for the second game at Shea Stadium. I don't understand why they wouldn't choose Milledge over Hernandez. I mean, if the game goes into extra innings, who would you want as the last pinch-hitter off the bench? Maybe Milledge really is disliked by his teammates.

Let's Go Mets!

I'm very happy to see Floyd make the roster. Of course this doesn't guarantee he'll be starting the early games of this series...

Let's Go! Mets Go!

I don't understand why they wouldn't choose Milledge over Hernandez.

The other thread outside the chatter explains why Milledge wasn't an option. He could have been included ONLY at the cost of losing Floyd for the rest of the post-season. IPOR™ could be added just by knocking Royce out of the Ring.

I'll be there tonight. Anyone else?

Willie said on WFAN that Floyd is starting tonight. I'm surprised considering that he's not running well, and the weather isn't that great.
   11. Doris from Rego Park Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:06 PM (#2207168)
I will be there.

*cough cough*
   12. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:20 PM (#2207186)
Floyd is starting!?!? Wow.
   13. Шĥy Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:30 PM (#2207201)
Green is also starting.
   14. Van Lingle Mungo Jerry Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:38 PM (#2207208)
Not so fast .. it's already raining.
   15. Fat Al Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:47 PM (#2207218)
They are now saying it's Cory Lidle's plane.
   16. Van Lingle Mungo Jerry Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:52 PM (#2207234)
Rob Base, I'm trying to decide if you just made a joke about Cory Lidle being on the plane that crashed into a residential building in Manhattan this afternoon, killing him (as was just confirmed on the radio). If you did, you are not human. Go away forever, please.
   17. Rob Base Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:52 PM (#2207238)
Comment 15 is looking pretty inappropriate right now. I'm going to ask Furtado to delete it.
   18. Rob Base Posted: October 11, 2006 at 04:55 PM (#2207248)
Van, please - the post was prior to the announcement. I've emailed Jim to ask him to take it down.
   19. Dan Broderick Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:05 PM (#2207268)
I'll back Base up on that one. I saw his post before I saw the announcement that it was Lidle's plane and I have been following the story closely. Very sad news.

I remember very clearly 9/11 and everyone in my building thought it was a small plane that accidently crashed into the WTC. I'm not really sure what can be done to prevent it but it is a pretty scary reality.

RIP Cory, I always wished the Mets kept you around.

Fun Mets stat of the day:

The Mets franchise is now ahead of the Yankees in all-time postseason series winning percentage. The Mets are 9-4, .692 and the Yankees are 44-21, .677.

To remain ahead this year, we need to win out our two more series.

And the all-time leaders in the stat are of course the Florida Marlins (6-0, 1.000) so make of that what you will...

re: # 15, hard to see what the point of the post was if it was made before the Lidle news. Seems to be in very poor taste no matter how the author attempts to explain it.
   22. Bob Koo Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2207293)
that 9/8 article from the NYT is eerie. RIP, Cory and my condolences to his family and friends.
   23. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2207297)
Just to clarify, my prior post was critical of former post # 15 by Rob Base, which apparently has been deleted.
   24. Bob Koo Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2207304)
oops, wrong thread...
   25. Rob Base Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#2207329)
"re: # 15, hard to see what the point of the post was if it was made before the Lidle news. Seems to be in very poor taste no matter how the author attempts to explain it."

Now that it is deleted I'm not going to explain it on here. It was a perfectly innocent remark that I will be glad to explain if you email me. Or not, up to you.
   26. Bob Koo Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#2207339)
The forecast doesn't look so great. Rain, rain, go away...
   27. Dan Broderick Posted: October 11, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2207354)
Nope, I just spoke to someone who is at Shea already and they said it was pouring.
   28. Urban Faber Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#2207391)
Maybe, all things considered, they should call it off and try tomorrow.
   29. Fat Al Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2207411)
It's very odd that Lidle's plane happens to have crashed into Manny Acta's building.
   30. Joshemy Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:56 PM (#2207458)
Officially cancelled.
   31. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:57 PM (#2207461)
Rain out.
   32. Urban Faber Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:58 PM (#2207462)
Game 2 Friday - don't know what time. I assume this affects ticketing.
   33. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 06:59 PM (#2207465)
Game 2 will be 1:00 I think I heard earlier today.
   34. Fat Al Posted: October 11, 2006 at 07:00 PM (#2207469)
The MLB guy said time TBA
   35. Fat Al Posted: October 11, 2006 at 07:02 PM (#2207474)
Well, thank goodness they scheduled both games at the same time...
   36. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 07:06 PM (#2207479)
Well, I do have a massive midterm tomorrow I should study for.
   37. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 08:24 PM (#2207563)
Game time for Friday yet?
   38. Urban Faber Posted: October 11, 2006 at 08:33 PM (#2207583)
Has not been announced yet. Saturday's a night game so I'd guess they could play it at night if they wanted to.
   39. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 11, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2207587)
I'd like that. Syracuse basketball media day is 4:00 on Friday.
   40. Alan S Posted: October 11, 2006 at 09:13 PM (#2207675)
I have concert tickets for Friday night and passed up going to a concert tonight to watch the game, so if they reschedule the game for any time later than 3 in the afternoon, I will be convinced that MLB and nature are conspiring against me.
   41. Urban Faber Posted: October 11, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2207756)
AP says tickets for Game 1 will be honored on Friday .... hey, that's what it says. Starting time to be announced tomorrow.
