Referring to Glavine:

"He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all," Pujols said. "I think we hit the ball hard. We didn't get some breaks."

He looked pretty good to me. Then again, my team won.

My wife says that Maine will beat Carpenter. I'm too much of a savvy veteran to disagree with her. Lets Go Mets!

Has one team ever faced a more "must win" Game 2 than the Cards tonight? Its almost inconceivable that they would lose this game but somehow come back and win the series.
   4. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 10:07 AM (#2209625)
I'd have to agree with you steve.
   5. Joshemy Posted: October 13, 2006 at 10:10 AM (#2209628)
Let's go Johnny!
   6. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 10:16 AM (#2209638)
Lets go Mets!

The two keys for tonight's game are these:

1. Can Maine keep Eckstein and Duncan off base?
2. How fast can our offense get to the Cards' bullpen?

If the answers are "Yes" and "Soon," we are golden.
   7. Tom D Posted: October 13, 2006 at 10:38 AM (#2209678)
I'd have to agree with you steve.

I hate to break this to you Matt, but if the Mets win tonight I think its unlikely that there will be a Game 6.

Yes, I am aware.

As a FYI, Game 3 (Saturday) has been moved to a 8:05 start
   10. greenback Posted: October 13, 2006 at 11:35 AM (#2209753)
Tony LaRussa has managed teams through 21 post-season series, up to and including the 2006 NLDS. He's 11-10. His teams have had 11 ps series in which they won the first two games, and of course they've won all 11. In series where they didn't win both of the first two games, his teams are 0-10.

This series has been an opportunity at redemption for the Cardinals, comparable to the Spirits beating the Nets back in 1975. Where are Don Adams and Marvin Barnes when you need them?

I have already stated this on multiple threads, but I am not done complaining about it yet. I cannot watch the game tonight, because, expecting this game to be played on Wednesday, I made plans. If they played this game in the afternoon, I could watch it. I hate Fox.
   12. Watch out for the door, Omar...(Met Fan Charlie) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 01:21 PM (#2209878)
It isn't all on Fox, though, Alan: they'er predicting snow in Detroit for tonight. As it is, it's gonna be in the low 40's in the afternoon up there, so I can give them a slight (very slight) break on that one...
   13. Alan S Posted: October 13, 2006 at 01:44 PM (#2209902)
Eh. Snow baseball is fun.
   14. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 02:01 PM (#2209922)
Seconded.

Spiezio in for Rolen tonight.
   16. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 04:30 PM (#2210183)
Spiezio in for Rolen tonight.

that's the kind of lineup that can make john maine look like chris carpenter.

Floyd's not starting tonight. He'll be available to pinch hit.
   18. Gold Star for Robothal Posted: October 13, 2006 at 06:52 PM (#2210482)
Scott "The Tickler" Spiezio
   19. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:05 PM (#2210497)
How nice of the game to actually start when it was scheduled.
   20. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:07 PM (#2210500)
Oh yeah, Fox. John Maine throws 96.
   21. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:08 PM (#2210501)
3 up, 3 down. Good start.
   22. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:08 PM (#2210502)
Great inning, Maine!

Why am I the only one here?
   23. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2210503)
Albert Pujols, postseason choker.
   24. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2210504)
A little further outside next time to The King, okay Johnny?
   25. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2210506)
Alrighty, there some of you are.
   26. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:10 PM (#2210507)
A little further outside next time to The King, okay Johnny?

Jim Leyritz is playing for St. Louis?
   27. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2210508)
JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSEEEE
   28. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2210509)

   29. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2210510)
####### first inning bunts.
   30. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2210511)
Jim Leyritz is playing for St. Louis?

Was that his nickname? Didn't realize.
   31. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2210512)
I hate first inning bunts.
   32. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2210513)
That is a foolish bunt. This game isn't ending 1-0.
   33. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2210516)
What the hell? I thought first pitch was going to be ar 8:20.
   34. J. Cross Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:17 PM (#2210518)
If Carlos #1 steals 2nd, will they throw down with Reyes at third? I guess better to find out only if there are two outs.
   35. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2210519)
CARLOS DELGADIT!!!!!!!!!!!
   36. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2210520)
I guess I don't care about that bunt anymore.

CARLOSSSSS DELGADO!! He killed that.
   37. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2210521)
DELGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADIT!!!
   38. J. Cross Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2210522)
That is a foolish bunt. This game isn't ending 1-0.

That prediction is looking good.

YES! Carlos!
   39. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2210523)
DELGADIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   40. greenback Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2210527)
Maybe starting Carpenter in Game 2 wasn't such a hot idea.
   41. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2210529)
Well, you don't see that very often.
   42. Srul Itza Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2210530)
If I had to hazard a guess, I would suspect that this is not how the Cardinals were hoping that Carpenter would start out the game.
   43. Srul Itza Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2210533)
This is Shawn Green.

You can throw him strike if you want.

But far be it from me to tell you how to do your job.
   44. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2210534)
Great job David!
   45. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2210536)
Wow, that was interesting baserunning from Wright. Way to bail Green out of his standard double play.
   46. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2210538)
Excellent baserunning there, very well done by Wright.
   47. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2210541)
3-0 after one. Couldn't have hoped for a much better start than that.
   48. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:29 PM (#2210545)
Woo! Delgado HR. I saved ARod's life.

I'm having a pretty good day.
   49. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2210546)
Hey cardsfanboy, I heard the cardinals are the heavy favorites in this series. Is that right?
   50. CrosbyBird Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2210547)
I was ######## about the cab service from the train station being so slow, but I got here in time for the Delgado jack.

I see a 1-2-3 from Maine, but a leadoff walk in the 2nd. Please don't give this team life, Johnny.
   51. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2210548)
Damnit, Maine. Strikes, son.
   52. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2210552)
I saved ARod's life.

I'm having a pretty good day.

You did what now?
   53. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2210553)
Dammit Delgado.
   54. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:32 PM (#2210554)
Ah, my god, Delgado.

Come on, Maine.
   55. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2210556)
See ARod's plane crash thread...
   56. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2210557)
ugh
   57. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2210558)
Jeez, come on Maine.
   58. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2210560)
Hit the license plate!

Joyce, YOU SUCK.
   59. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2210561)
JESUS CHRIST MAINE, STOP SUCKING
   60. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2210562)
HUGE out Maine. Nice.
   61. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2210563)
Big out!
   62. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2210564)
Huh. So, in a way, you almost saved that kid's life who A-Rod saved like 2 years ago in Boston. Almost, right?
   63. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2210565)
Dammit, Maine, stop messing around.

Nice! 1 down, 2 more.

They got to get Oliver up soon, Maine has NOTHING
   69. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2210575)
Finally a strike call on the outside corner.
   70. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2210576)
John Maine needs to develop a split-finger to complement his fastball.
   71. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2210580)
Alright, still have the lead.
   72. Rob Base Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2210581)
that looked like it was going to be a hit
   73. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2210583)
That was a huge out to Eckstein. I was about to throw something thinking that he had punched his way to another cheapie single.
   74. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2210584)
Maine survives the error. Could have been worse.
   75. J. Cross Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2210585)
I agree that we should get Oliver up next inning but I'd still stick with Maine for a couple innings if he can hold it together. Not an impressive inning right there though.
   76. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2210587)
Am I the only one who feels like valentin has been around forever? It feels like he should be 45 or something, and he's only 47. Wierd.
   77. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2210588)
Stache has excellent instincts as a 2B.

Endymania!

ENDY MAGIC!
   80. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2210591)
ENDY MAGIC
   81. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2210592)
Now that's what us in the industry call "ENDY MAGIC"
   82. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2210595)
Endy magic!
   83. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2210597)
Oh, so close to an error. That would have been a dagger.
   84. J. Cross Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2210599)
C'mon Reyes! We need you to get the ball in play here.
   85. MM1f Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM (#2210601)
WHere the crap did this Endy come from. I really cant imagine old Endy holding back on a Carpenter curve and stinging it down the line.

ANd what are the fans singing as Reyes comes in
   86. AJM Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM (#2210602)
Jose!
   87. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM (#2210603)
Dial, that's pretty sweet. I think A-Rod owes you a call.

JOSE JOSEJOSEJOSE JOSE JOOSSEEEE!
   88. Banta Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM (#2210604)
Now this is the Jose Reyes I love.
   89. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:48 PM (#2210605)
Reyes!
   90. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:49 PM (#2210608)
Reyes really hasn't had a lot of slumps since the first half of the season. He might struggle for 2 or 3 games but generally he's been very consistent.
   91. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2210613)
If Doca can get on here, I think we will put on a hurting on Carpenter again this inning.
   92. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2210616)
My wife wants to know if I get the info to ARod if he'll get me WS tickets...
   93. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:54 PM (#2210617)
Uh-oh, looks like Carpenter is starting to get the feel of his pitches. Let's get into the Card bullpen.
   94. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2210621)
The Clash!
   95. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2210622)
Carp is already at 42 pitches. That's a 5 inning outing.
   96. J. Cross Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2210624)
Chris, this sounds like a good story. Where can I read it?
   97. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2210626)
Come on, call a ####### strike!
   98. EB Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2210625)

Only if the Yankees are playing.
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: October 13, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2210628)
I really don't mind BBing Pujols here.
   100. Chris Dial Posted: October 13, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2210630)
I think Arod would get me tickets. Sam needs to pass on the word.
