What a beautiful day. Let's watch two!
   2. greenback Posted: October 14, 2006 at 08:24 AM (#2211210)
After you're through seeing Suppan and Trachsel meditate on the mound, you'll be convinced that you did in fact watch two.

I take full responsibility for the results of Game 2. The Mets are 7-3 in postseason games I have attended. I brought my wife to all three of those losses. I am the goat.

No offense, dude, but I think your wife may be hexed.

I'm venting after an absolutely brutal loss that would have wrecked me when I was younger, but now just pisses me off. Mostly because I'm not hearing or reading anything about Randolph's culpability.

My major issue here and, generally, throughout the postseason is that Randolph is burning Feliciano too early and on the wrong hitters. Randolph burned him with two out in the sixth inning against a lefty that has no power. Use Oliver there. Save Feliciano for Jim Edmonds, who LaRussa will not pinch hit for. Edmonds is hitting a buck something against lefties this year.

Randolph has managed or should I say, "mangled," his way into essentially having one lefty MIRP. He's using Oliver as a long man, I guess, which is misuse. He clearly doesn't have the confidence in Oliver to take out Mota or Heilman in his favor when the matchups dictate. I do believe he has the confidence in Feliciano to do that, but he's not allowing himself to because he's got too itchy a trigger finger with Pedro.

From this point forward in this series, he must save Feliciano for Edmonds. He can keep him in to pitch to Spezio, too, who, while arguably a better average against lefites, continues to exhibit no power against them.

I feel better now. Until Randolph does it all over again today.
   6. Bob Koo Posted: October 14, 2006 at 11:55 AM (#2211287)
I totally agree with #5. If there was one mistake Randolph made last night, it was burning Feliciano on a non-dangerous hitter like Rodriguez. Let Bradford get him (Bradford actually has been good vs. lefties as well, so Willie did well to let him pitch to Edmonds and Spiezio). Then you use Feliciano after Mota walked Pujols in the 7th. Just like Bradford should be the designated Pujols-stopper, Feliciano should be brought i against Edmonds.
   7. Bob Koo Posted: October 14, 2006 at 12:00 PM (#2211288)
Obviously we need at least 5-6 innings out of Trachsel tonight, and Willie will have a longer leash on him. But Bradford, Heilman, Hernandez, and Wagner should all be available for an inning, and Willie should also stretch Feliciano out if necessary.
   8. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 12:03 PM (#2211289)
Let's go Trax!

I'll be missing this game tonight. I'll be at PSU-Michigan at Beaver Stadium at 8 PM, in full White-Out gear.
   9. Tom D Posted: October 14, 2006 at 01:10 PM (#2211313)
No offense, dude, but I think your wife may be hexed.

Well, no. She married quite well. And she was at the Todd Pratt game.
   10. greenback Posted: October 14, 2006 at 01:11 PM (#2211316)
Save Feliciano for Jim Edmonds, who LaRussa will not pinch hit for.

LaRussa PH'd Spiezio for Edmonds in Game 1.
   11. Bob Koo Posted: October 14, 2006 at 01:33 PM (#2211330)
That was in the 9th inning against Wagner. Would he do the same in the 7th inning against Feliciano, with Spieizio already in the game and Taguchi needed for Duncan? I think not.
   12. Bob Koo Posted: October 14, 2006 at 02:19 PM (#2211343)
Trachsel's splits (avg/obp/slg)this year:
vs. righties, 306/386/525; vs. lefties, 267/340/397.

yikes.
   13. Campeones de la Serie Mundial('zop) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 02:26 PM (#2211345)
Billy Wagner's #### really doesn't work in the playoffs, does it? He's given up 8 ER in 9.7 IP, I think.

Egads.
   14. Robert S. Posted: October 14, 2006 at 04:26 PM (#2211465)
You can take the man out of Houston . . .
   15. greenback Posted: October 14, 2006 at 04:47 PM (#2211498)
Would he do the same in the 7th inning against Feliciano, with Spieizio already in the game and Taguchi needed for Duncan? I think not.

I think it depends on how TLR feels about Edmonds's health. He hasn't been timid about sitting/pulling Edmonds against LH starters/LOOGYs this year.

Preston Wilson and Scott Rolen were both available BTW.
   16. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 05:03 PM (#2211529)
So, all RHB are David Wright against Trachsel. Big deal. It's not like they're Miguel Cabrera.

Jeremy's not here, but GO MICHIGAN!
   18. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2211715)
Mostly because I'm not hearing or reading anything about Randolph's culpability.

You should be reading my posts. I pinned this on Willie when he didn't remove Mota - well, I started when he didn't stop the swinging at the first pitch garbage...
   19. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:10 PM (#2211773)
So uh, will the game start?
   20. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2211779)
"Billy Wagner's #### really doesn't work in the playoffs, does it? He's given up 8 ER in 9.7 IP, I think."

Wow, that's gonna keep him out of the HOF.
   21. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2211785)
Alrighty, Mets, lots of runs. And Trachsel... please. Just... please.
   22. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2211786)
Boy, who would have thought the biggest Mets game in six years would be started by Steve Trachsel? But I have faith.
   23. Alan S Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2211787)
Timmy's comment about momentum made even less sense than most of what he says.
   24. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2211789)
I like the cuts Delgado is taking.
   25. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2211793)
I really think we need Wright to come up big.
   26. not your average baseball fan Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2211795)
weird that they're just starting Game 3 of the NLCS and the ALCS is already over.
   27. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2211796)
Ehhh, ok. Let's go Trax.
   28. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2211797)
Rats. Here we go, Trax.
   29. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2211798)
weird that they're just starting Game 3 of the NLCS and the ALCS is already over.

I just thought the exact same thing.
   30. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2211799)
I hate Joe Buck. Even if I weren't a Mets fan, I would want the Cards to lose just to spite Buck.
   31. Bob Koo Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2211800)
Delgado swung at ball four. Ugh.
   32. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2211802)
That is kind of wierd.
   33. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2211807)
That's what they get paid to do Buck, no need to give them fellatio.
   34. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2211808)
Or weird; however it's spelled.
   35. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:28 PM (#2211811)
Not the start we were looking for. Gotta keep the little chinchilla off the bases.

Well, that will take care of it.
   36. Alan S Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:28 PM (#2211813)
Got a little too scrappy there.
   37. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:28 PM (#2211814)
oops

Yay Deceptive Trachsel!
   40. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:29 PM (#2211818)
Since when do you have a move to first, Trax?
   41. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2211821)
where was that?
   42. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2211822)
Wow. Squeezed much on the inside of the plate?
   43. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2211824)
Can you pick this one off too?
   44. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2211825)
Classic Trachsel.

We're ######.
   45. AJM Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2211826)
Dammit Trax, you can't be walking guys in front of Pujols!
   46. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:32 PM (#2211828)
Thank you for not going to third. Yeesh.
   47. Alan S Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2211829)
Time to get Oliver up.
   48. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2211830)
####, this is not good at all.
   49. not your average baseball fan Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2211832)
Are you telling me that some of you have already seen Trax ptiching. He's yet to throw his first pitch on my TV. I must be in a time warp.
   50. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2211833)
Another jam shot squirting into the OF. I think this bodes well for Trax.
   51. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2211835)
Sweet, thank you Edmonds.
   52. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2211837)
How Wilson didn't get to third there, I'll never know.
   53. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2211838)
I like Sandfrog playing in LF. The Mets will take advantage of that somehow tonight.
   54. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2211839)
I hope that's just a patch they're wearing.

remind why we have shawn green again.
   62. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211848)
Yep, Green is not a real outfielder, Spiezio is a demon, and the series is over.
   63. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211849)
Endy Chavez would have caught that.
   64. Gold Star for Robothal Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211850)
Fat chicks love Spiezio. Shawn Green tries the classic 'jump on the grenade' brand of outfield defense.
   65. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211852)
Jesus. The Jew needs to make that play.
   66. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211853)
Shawn Green isn't much of a defender, is he?
   67. J. Cross Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2211854)
When that ball went into the air it didn't even occur to me as a possibility that the RF'er wouldn't catch it. Tim should have said:

"Shawn Green has done it again!"
   68. Sam Hutcheson (perhaps some sort of ninja) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2211856)
Shawn Green has no range. That is all.
   69. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211857)
That's unreal. How was that ball not caught?
   70. Dagezi Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211858)
howie rose described his route to the ball as circular
   71. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211863)
remind why we have shawn green again.

Remind me why the Mariners released Spiezio and are still paying him.

Oh, that's right, beeause he s*cked.
   72. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211862)
Steve Trachsel is not a major league pitcher. Way to come up big, Trash.
   73. AJM Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211865)
Spiezio has figured out how to get hits against the Mets, just hit flyballs to right field.
   74. Sam Hutcheson (perhaps some sort of ninja) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2211866)
Shawn Green has no range. That is all.

Milledge catches that ball.
   76. J. Cross Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211869)
I refuse to blame that routine fly ball that any man with two legs should have caught on Trachsel.
   77. Dagezi Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211871)
hey man, green saved a run last night by ever so gracefully deflecting the flight of the ball with the side of his glove as he leaped like a wounded bat
   78. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211873)
Steve Trachsel is not a major league pitcher. Way to come up big, Trash.

Please. Trax got a routine FB to RF. WTF do you want?
   79. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211874)
Edy Chavez would have caught that pop-up to left.
   80. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211876)
Well, that could have been worse, but if Wright doesn't get in the way I think Chavez makes that play.
   81. Alan S Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211877)
And Wright slide tackles out 3 away from Chavez. Way to go, team.
   82. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2211878)
"Wright did everything he could"

To make Chavez drop the ball.
   83. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2211879)
That was just silly.
   84. Dagezi Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2211880)
I see trax got the memo about throwing strikes tonight.

This is farking torture.
   87. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2211885)
Trachsel is nibbling like a starved rabbit.
   88. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2211886)
I suppose Green has walked the last two hitters too, huh guys?
   89. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2211887)
I cannot believe these HS announcers don't have the balls to call Green on not catching that FB.
   90. AJM Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2211888)
This is crazy.
   91. Dagezi Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2211889)
And Oliver Perez tomorrow? We're ######.
   92. Alan S Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2211892)
Oh my God! Consecutive strikes!
   93. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2211893)
Trax has served up four outs already this inning - what else do you want? 5 I suppose.
   94. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2211894)
Fun inning.
   95. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2211895)
I guess he was pitching around Belliard. I think Vaux was right about Eckstein. That could have been a big inning for the Cards.
   96. J. Cross Posted: October 14, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2211897)
"Again, it's a two out, two run triple that Green SHOULD have caught but managed to make look much more difficult than it really was."

I think Buck managed to forget that last part.
