Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And..
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

I see your Boss, and raise you a Bard!

That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us....

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother;

No fair, you can't go right to Henry V...

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their baseball team; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. The Cardinals , like hell, are not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.

Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep [Pujols] from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down

Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down.

Well I know what's right, [we] got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down

Hey baby there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
No, I won't back down

Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies, and establish Thy justice among men and nations. Well angel, won't you believe in love for me
C'mon and meet me tonight, darling, out in the street
We'll move with the city in the dark
You got to walk, it talk, it in your heart
There's nothin' to lose it's a heartache
The deck's stacked
So put your foot to the floor, darling
Tonight we'll blow off the doors, baby
We're gonna even the score
And honey we won't look back

Even more Bruce, but, in fairness, I have listened to this song for years with Mets highlights playing in my lungs:

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest

Big Wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
...
This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This Train
Carries whores and gamblers
This Train
Carries lost souls
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'
This Train
Carries broken-hearted
This Train
Thieves and sweet souls departed
This Train
Carries fools and kings
This Train
All aboard

Everybody's out on the run tonight but there's no place left to hide
Together [Willie] we'll live with the sadness
[We'll] love you with all the madness in [our] soul
Someday [boys] I don't know when we're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go and we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us baby we were born to run

"Oh Lord, please don't burn us,
Don't grill or toast your flock,
Don't put us on the barbecue,
Or simmer us in stock,
Don't braise or bake or boil us,
Or stir-fry us in a wok...

Oh please don't lightly poach us,
Or baste us with hot fat,
Don't fricassee or roast us,
Or boil us in a vat,
And please don't stick thy servants Lord,
In a Rotissomat..."

I feel that my luck is changing for the positive. I just got an e-mail from Paypal about some problems with my account. I will be able to avoid a lot of problems just by inputing some basic bank account information. Adding to my feeling of good fortune is that they sent the notice to an e-mail account that they don't even have on record!

During the 86 series, I was such a sheltered kid I had no idea this was a song by a group, I actually just thought it was this really cool Stadium chant. I must have been signing that song(that part) everyday at school during that series.

Ahh good times, when the only time I got to watch TV or hear a radio oldies or John Wayne was on.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers.
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.
Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting.
Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down.
Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh, this means no fear cavalier.
Renegade steer clear!
A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies.
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide.
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. can't I have some time alone?
It's the end of the world as we know it can't I have some time alone? and I feel fine...fine...

There WILL be a Game 7. The only question is whether the Cardinals will show up, or whether the Mets will conduct a sad, forlorn scrimmage that they will talk about in their old age* as the greatest game they ever played against the shadows of what might have been . . . .

The comparisons to Game 6 of '86 are obvious, but I keep thinking it will turn out to be more like the not as dramatic but no less doomhaunted Game 6 of '02, where the Giants came back to Anaheim facing "fragile" pitching after taking 2 out of 3 at their turf. That game featured a comeback that literally could not be stopped, plus one of the most illogical home runs of all of World Series play (Dunston Checks In?).

Sam M.,

There are no words for how badly you butchered that Henry V quote!

<i> That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;

From this day to the ending of the world,

For he to-day that sheds his blood with me

You can't cut out the line before "From this day to the ending of the world/But we in it shall be remembered," because then it makes no sense. It goes "And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by/ From this day to the ending of the world /But we in it shall be remembered..." i.e., No Saint Crispins day shall go by from now until the end of time without we soldiers being remembered for what we accomplished today (on St. Crispins Day).

Even thuogh my Yankee fanhood traditioanlly forbids it, today I'm rooting for the Mets. Not for the Mets, but for other things. For the good bagels which I can't get in the food wasteland of Boston. For real pizza, which is equally scarce. For my fellow Jewish baseball fans , who seem to root for the Mets in abundance. For my Grandfather and Uncle on Long Island who have rooted for the Mets since '62. And, well, I dunno...for the cyclone, because that is a kickass roller coaster.

for the cyclone, because that is a kickass roller coaster.

I rode it July Fourth and threw out my back. My exact comment on the ride was, "It's terrifying for all the wrong reasons."

Why is this happening to us? Come on, John. Just get out of this. Please???

Maine needs to get this out. You can't have all the energy sucked out of the crowd in the first inning.

Uh, Tim, the second pitch wasn't a fastball.

The pitch he got the hit on didn't hang....

And that pitch obviously didn't hit him in the elbow

I think these announcers just make #### up.

Yes, Louis, because there are four outs in an inning.

There's 2 outs Gonzo.

And Gonzalez thinks there's one out. There's something wrong with my Fox feed, too.

Has Lo Duca ever moved his body in front of the ball?
