I'm going to have to go with gouty David Wells in this one.
   2. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:17 PM (#2199563)
Attaboy Wells.. 3 up, 3 down thanks to a GIDP.

chirrup..... chirrup......
   4. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:34 PM (#2199606)
So . . . they play baseball in San Diego?

Anyway. Weaver got extremely lucky in that last inning. If that's his form all day, I'm calling a 10-4 victory for the Padres.

They really need to do a better job scheduling the late afternoon games. They're getting overlap every time, and then there's a gap before the prime time game.
   6. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:37 PM (#2199611)
And I realize the early game wasn't scheduled, but still...
   7. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:38 PM (#2199612)
Chris Berman gives me conniptions.
   8. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#2199613)
That was an awesome throw from Roberts.
   9. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#2199614)
Meat!
   10. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:40 PM (#2199617)
Pitch thrown by David Wells, then Dave Roberts throws to the plate and Josh Bard tags a guy out. Good job, Red Sox West!
   11. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:40 PM (#2199618)
Great throw by Roberts.. was afraid Bard would lose the ball on the slide/tag, but out at home to end the inning.
   12. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:43 PM (#2199622)
Leadoff man on.. have to score this inning.
   13. The Man in Blak Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:44 PM (#2199623)
*mute button*
   14. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:44 PM (#2199625)
If Berman starts talking about football, I'm going to Elvis my television. Hyping football is for FOX. Just like whooshes and beeps.
   15. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:45 PM (#2199629)
Damnit Branyan.
   16. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:46 PM (#2199630)
I am going to kill Chris Berman.
   17. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:47 PM (#2199632)
God Berman you're so dumb. That wasn't even close to fair.
   18. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:47 PM (#2199633)
I ####### HATE CHRIS BERMAN AND I HATE ANYONE THAT LIKES HIM OR IS EVEN INDIFFERENT TOWARDS HIM
   19. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:48 PM (#2199635)
Wow, that was amazing.
   20. flack Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:50 PM (#2199641)
For us GameDay viewers, what was the latest Berman transgression?
   21. Silver King Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:53 PM (#2199647)
hyperdramatic call on a foul 'homer'
   22. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:53 PM (#2199649)
Berman's patented "BACK BACK BACK BACK (5 second pause) foul" With the backs being yelled and him stretching out 'foul' for 3 seconds like he always does. And the ball wasn't even close to the foul pole.
   23. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:54 PM (#2199650)
He drew out the call egregiously on a ball that was sixty feet foul.
   24. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:57 PM (#2199653)
That high school picture of Wells is incredible.
   25. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:59 PM (#2199654)
He looked like Twiggy.
   26. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 05, 2006 at 04:59 PM (#2199655)
Why is Chris Berman allowed to call baseball? Or to be on TV at all, for that matter?
   27. salvomania Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:03 PM (#2199666)
P Dub wit the dub.

I'm on GameDay---how close was that to going out?
   28. flack Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:05 PM (#2199668)
Thx.
Chris "is dumber than lumBer,man"
   29. Sparkles Peterson Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2199669)
Albert tried to take second because he KNEW the Padres couldn't execute a rundown. He's just that good.
   30. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:07 PM (#2199670)
What the hell was that? Walker threw the ball too soon and someone has to cover 2nd there. Pathetic.
   31. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2199675)
How many times is this ####### oaf going to say Wells is 43 years young? I've heard it at least 5 times, and I've had the mute on half the game.

Ah, another opportunity for me to rant/whine/##### about lack of hustle:

In the regular season, I wouldn't mind so much, but in the playoffs, guys had better be busting their butts to be in position for even the unlikely.
   33. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:13 PM (#2199678)
That was a ridiculously generous strike call.
   34. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2199680)
I've have soiled myself if Walker made the play there.
   35. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2199684)
Barfield likely makes that play to end the inning.
   36. Spivey Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2199685)
That catch could be the difference between losing 6-2 and 8-2.
   37. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2199687)
Nice catch.
   38. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:20 PM (#2199692)
Wow, I didn't know the nanny was that good. I was sure I could get away with rhymes-with-witch when it was (1) in a string/with/other/words and (2) I sunstituted "!" for "i".
   39. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2199697)
This KFC commercial is one of my least favorites currently in heavy rotation. "Snacker backer"? Is that supposed to be cute.
   40. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:28 PM (#2199699)
?
   41. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:34 PM (#2199706)
That was no strike.
   42. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2199715)
C'mon Dave...
   43. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2199716)
... or Not.
   44. salvomania Posted: October 05, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2199726)
Boy, three DPs turned by the Pads plus a pick-off..... this sure could be a lot worse...
   45. salvomania Posted: October 05, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2199750)
chirrup.... chirrup....

   47. friarfan Posted: October 05, 2006 at 06:50 PM (#2199764)
Disappointing is an understatement.
   48. Sam M. Posted: October 05, 2006 at 07:04 PM (#2199773)
This I find massively surprising. Not Game 1. But this one . . . .
   49. Sparkles Peterson Posted: October 05, 2006 at 07:11 PM (#2199779)
The Cardinals are bringing back my midseason optimism. It wasn't that many months ago that there was legitimate debate over whether the Cardinals or the Mets were the class of the NL. They're all healthy again and the pitching is finally meeting expectations.

Of course, it would be true to form for them to drop the next three in embarrassing fashion now that they've finally got my hopes up.
   50. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: October 05, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2199820)
This just about clinches the Mets' pennant.
   51. Sam M. Posted: October 05, 2006 at 08:15 PM (#2199822)
I don't know, Vaux. I would really like to see the Padres force the Cardinals to pitch Carpenter once more in this series before the NLCS. A rested Carpenter to start that series could make them very dangerous.
