Brian Bannister.

Pujols is sitting today. Barry Bonds must have gotten to someone in the Cardinals' management.

Why the #### is the Mustache hitting second today?
   6. Bob Koo Posted: May 18, 2006 at 11:42 AM (#2025683)
Wow, maybe we have a chance now. But then again Jose Valentin is batting second and *playing* second, so maybe not. Guess Willie really wants Lima to get knocked around today.
   7. Bob Koo Posted: May 18, 2006 at 11:44 AM (#2025686)
Why the #### is the Mustache hitting second today?

Because, by Willie's rules, when Lo Duca sits, the worst position player (AKA the second baseman) has to hit second. It's in the handbook, dontchaknow.
   8. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 18, 2006 at 11:51 AM (#2025697)
Jose Valentin is playing 2B and batting second.

Willie really does understand the Mets have no chance. He's just getting his guys some PT.
   9. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 18, 2006 at 11:56 AM (#2025703)
Well, Bannister went 0.1 of an inning before he was removed. He gave up a single and got a ground ball out. I presume he is hurt again.

Which likely means this is not Lima's final start.

TREMENDOUS!

   11. Anonymous Observer Posted: May 18, 2006 at 12:10 PM (#2025730)
This game will be harder for the Cardinals to win, even with Lima on the mound. Sandfrog cannot smell runs like Albert can.

Why is Valentin at second a bad thing? If he plays everyday, he could still hit 20+ homers. I'd take that if he could hack it defensively.
   14. Bob Koo Posted: May 18, 2006 at 12:13 PM (#2025746)
Valentin's fluke weekend is going to cost the Mets for the rest of the year.
   15. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: May 18, 2006 at 12:16 PM (#2025750)
Why do you guys hate Valentin so much? Flukes go both ways. How do we know that the first 20 Abs mean more than the last 10?
   16. Bob Koo Posted: May 18, 2006 at 12:17 PM (#2025754)

I prefer Heilman.

Why is Valentin at second a bad thing? If he plays everyday, he could still hit 20+ homers. I'd take that if he could hack it defensively.

You must've smoked something good this morning, Russlan. What makes you think he's retained his power at the age of 36? Did you see his .265 slugging percentage from a year ago?
   17. Anonymous Observer Posted: May 18, 2006 at 12:17 PM (#2025755)
Good start for Marquis. According to Dan McLaughlin, in Marquis's 4 wins, he's held his opponent to a .000 batting average in the first inning. In his 4 losses, his opponent hit .474 in the first inning.

TLR and Duncan should keep that in mind. So from now on, when Marquis gives up his first hit in the first inning, they can immediately get Adam Wainright up in the bullpen.

I actually liked the Valentin signing. What I don't like is him being the first option off the bench and starting in LF.
