NY Yankees 23-16 at NY Mets 24-16 - 7:10pm ET

NYY: R. Johnson (5-4, 5.13) vs. NYM: J. Gonzalez (0-0, 5.40)

The Big Useless against the Junior Varsity.  While the thought of a crippled Randy Johnson having to bat scared me at first, I remember now that he will be knocked out of the game before his spot in the batting order comes up, so it’s no longer a concern.

This back end of the rotation is gonna make me do something crazy.

Didn't you have a plan to kidnap Lima? I'd go for it.
   202. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2027812)
I'm in favor of any plan that gets these two jokers out of the rotation. ANY PLAN. It's making me so sick, I'm completely flexible.

Howie says Mets are looking to replace Lima before his next start.

I hope so. Did he say with whom? Soler's gotta be the guy, no? Or are they thinking trade?
   204. Raskolnikov Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:14 PM (#2027814)
That was a big out.

Reyes is hurt. Something with his fingers. They are taping them right now.

Victorino with a solo shot, 3-1 Boston.

It's reassuring to know that the Mets organization is 2 two steps behind their fans, as usual.

Lima and Gonzalez are positively awful, but I wouldn't put a lot of stock in Soler.
   208. J. Cross Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:18 PM (#2027827)
If Willie gets Gonzalez out of here now we still have a chance of winning this game and should consider ourselves lucky.

Didn't you have a plan to kidnap Lima? I'd go for it.

I think I've just been waiting for approval. And an alibi. But the more time passes, the less I care about either of those.

As a Met fan, do I not have a right, or dare I say, a DUTY to kidnap Jose Lima and hide him far, far away from the team?
   210. Cutter Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:19 PM (#2027829)
1-2-3 inning? That would be a shocker.

I dunno, Soler's done better in the minors that I thought he would. And he's been getting positive reviews from Baseball America and other minor league sources. Certainly a better option than Gonzo and L*)#*)@a
   212. Rickroll the Mets (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:19 PM (#2027831)
You know, I was against moving Heilman to the rotation. But we are going to need a 3rd start eventually, and he's the only guy in the organization who can be that guy. Pedro, Glavine, Heilman, Trachsel, Soler/Bannister doesn't sound too bad. I'm guessing acquiring a decent reliever will be easier than acquiring a #3 starter.
   213. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:19 PM (#2027832)

   227. yl_adam Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:21 PM (#2027851)
I guess Posada must still be calling the game from the dugout.

Nady is a sweet lefty-masher.

Howie says Mets are looking to replace Lima before his next start.

The Mets have been having internal discussion about sending Mike Pelfrey to Tampa Bay for Casey Fossum who they believe is very close to putting it all together and harnessing his great stuff.

you know, at this point, I feel a bit sorry for Johnson.
He looks like he feels genuinely bad about it..

sigh. The Mets got this now, their bullpen has way more depth
   233. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:24 PM (#2027862)
If Gonzalez puts a runner on, he needs to be removed immediately.
   234. Chris Dial Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:25 PM (#2027863)
Pitching lines are nice - each clown has thrown 63-64 pitches allowing 5 runs.

Nady is a sweet lefty-masher.

Yep, he must be one of the best in baseball at hitting lefties.

Matsui still stinks.

Did Omar sound definitive about making the move before Lima's next start? I read he said he hadn't given up on him yet today. Hopefully, he changed his mind.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Take Gonzalez out!!!!!!!!!!

UGH. Oliver sux so bad.

Jason Giambi lifetime versus Darren Oliver:

.629/.690/.914

22-for-35, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 5 BB
   245. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:28 PM (#2027877)
Willie has a patent on leaving starters in for one hitter too long.

Great, now they'll go back-to-back off Oliver.

Finally.
   247. Raskolnikov Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2027881)

Papi 2-R HR, 5-1 Boston.

Those are insane numbers for Giambi off Oliver. And, that's one way to take care of it.

Ortiz hit a 2-run bomb in Philly. 5-1. Alex Rodriguez against Oliver. This can't be good.
   254. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:32 PM (#2027892)
Wait, is this a clutch situation? It's not late...

.629/.690/.914

I wouldn't be able to put up those numbers with in a MLB2K6 game with cheat mode and Pujols hitting.

I guess it was a clutch situation.

Here's the DP...
   261. Raskolnikov Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2027901)
The funny thing is that there are enough managers out there to let Oliver accumulate 35+, now 36+ PAs, against Giambi.
   262. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2027902)
A-Rod does seem to get no love from the umps.

I would use every pitcher possible to win tonight's game. Then I would release either Lima or Gonzalez to get a fresh arm for the bullpen tomorrow.

Reyes' range is shaky at times. A good SS is able to maintain his balance and make that play at third.

AP: Bannister returns to extended spring training

Mets pitcher Brian Bannister is returning to extended spring training to rehabilitate his injured right hamstring after a test Friday failed to reveal any new injury.

...

Jose Lima, inserted into the rotation, is 0-3 with an 8.79 ERA. Jeremi Gonzalez had a 5.40 ERA before giving up four first-inning runs against the Yankees.

"There are some things out there," Minaya said. "What you are looking at are bad ERAs plus money."

New York doesn't plan to move Aaron Heilman from the bullpen into the rotation. Minaya said the team could bring up a pitcher from the minors.

"Now it's the seventh, eighth guys in our depth chart," Minaya said. "I'm not afraid to pick up a guy from Double-A."

Non-sexual Chubby for Phillip Hughes

So you mean you have to go pee?

Sterling is too used to calling Jeter, he talks about how every diving play Reyes makes saves a run. No comment on there being any way to make a play...

Reyes has saved two runs already in this game, and I bet he won't get any credit for it.

Second half of the season - Milledge in RF, Floyd/Nady platoon + Nady takes some extra games from Milledge.

BTW, Mike Carp looks like he's starting to put things together in low A. He's still only 20, I think.
