NY Yankees 23-16 at NY Mets 24-16 - 7:10pm ET

NYY: R. Johnson (5-4, 5.13) vs. NYM: J. Gonzalez (0-0, 5.40)

The Big Useless against the Junior Varsity.  While the thought of a crippled Randy Johnson having to bat scared me at first, I remember now that he will be knocked out of the game before his spot in the batting order comes up, so it’s no longer a concern.

Nice rundown.
   302. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:46 PM (#2027957)
Yeah, let's get in a footrace with a guy known for his speed!
   303. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2027958)
That's too many hits allowed by MacLane.

REYES!!!!
   304. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2027961)
Steal!
   305. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:47 PM (#2027962)
Those are the fundamentals that win ballgames. Not stupid bunting.
   306. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2027964)
Good job Jose. Now get him in Blow Duca.
   307. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2027966)
A good throw gets Reyes there.

MacLane, a finesse lefty, against a lefty-laden Phillies lineup wouldn't be the worst gamble in the world.
   308. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2027968)
Cano is such a good defensive second-baseman. He and Jeter are golden up the middle.
   309. NJ in DC (Now with Law School!!!) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2027971)
Wait, what did Cano do and what happened with Reyes?
   310. Raskolnikov Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2027973)
Hoping for a Reyes Run (TM).

I'm against bringing up MacLane - at least before Soler anyway. I think the latter is more seasoned.
   311. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2027974)
Wait, what did Cano do and what happened with Reyes?

They picked him off and Cano tried to outrun him to first rather than throw to Johnson.
   312. Raskolnikov Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2027977)
Awesome, Lo Duca walking before Beltran is always promising.
   313. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2027978)
####### Beltran.
   314. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2027979)
Nuts.
   315. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2027981)
Dammit. Beltran gets HR happy and pops out.
   316. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2027982)
Incidentally, Jeter was the one who should have been covering second on the pickoff. He should be running at Reyes from the SS position, so he'd have the momentum behind him and Reyes would have no chance to get away.
   317. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:53 PM (#2027984)
Even Randy Johnson is a lifetime 2-for-4 against Oliver.
   318. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:53 PM (#2027985)
Beltran has a BABIP in the low .200's this season. He's walking a ton and hitting a lot of homers but he rarely gets a hit that isn't a homer.
   319. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:55 PM (#2027993)
Heilman should start the 6th, but of course he won't.
   320. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:56 PM (#2027994)
Good enough, Oliver. Unforunately, Willie will most likely try to pitch him one more inning.
   321. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:56 PM (#2027996)
Nice job Oliver.
   322. eric Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:58 PM (#2027999)
apparently Webby is the best in the business, fried ass or not.
   323. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:58 PM (#2028000)
Is Carp really putting it together at the FSL? He's hitting in the 260's and he's still striking out a ton. The walks are still there, but the power numbers are a bit down. He's intriguing, but nothing to get excited about, IMHO.
   324. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2028002)
Delgado is sort of in a slump now, isn't he?
   325. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2028003)
Delgado just does not hit lefties.
   326. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2028004)
Not good, Delgado.
   327. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2028007)
Okay...so MacLane is still pitching. He's got two outs in the sixth. Over 100 pitches now.
   328. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2028008)
Thanks Melky! Do it again, X-Man.
   329. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2028010)
Wright!
   330. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2028013)
I'd run with Wright.
   331. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2028017)
Okay, now MacLane is done. For real: 6.2 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR. 101 pitches, 66 strikes. His ERA is 1.31.
   332. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2028019)
Uh, Mets fans, what's up with going nuts over every single? From just reading the chatter you'd think the Mets had six or seven homers tonight.
   333. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2028024)
Good enough, Matt.

FREE EVAN MACLANE!!
   334. NJ in DC (Now with Law School!!!) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2028025)
What happened with Melky?
   335. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2028028)
Uh, Mets fans, what's up with going nuts over every single? From just reading the chatter you'd think the Mets had six or seven homers tonight.

It's our nature. Read all the chatters from the season. Tonight is nothing special.
   336. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2028031)
What happened with Melky?

He didn't catch a blooper to right. Mets fans seem to overreact to stuff.
   337. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2028032)
There's just no way Kaz is going to get a hit here.
   338. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2028033)
God, I'm hoping for a HBP. Matsui is horrible.
   339. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2028035)
It's our nature.

Your nature is confusing the hell out of Fabian.
   340. NJ in DC (Now with Law School!!!) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2028036)
Thanks Larry. Mets fans...
   341. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:07 PM (#2028038)
You have to like the Yankees bench in a National League game, if you're a Mets fan. Cairo, Andy Phillips, Kevin Reese and Mitch Jones.
   342. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2028041)
Kaz!
   343. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2028042)
KAZ MATSUI WE LOVE YOU!
   344. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2028043)
Yes Kaz! He's hit the ball hard all three times vs. Randy.
   345. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2028044)
Yay Kaz!
   346. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2028045)
Also, the Mets have been in a bit of an offensive slump lately. The fact that they are keeping up in this game is pretty astounding.

KAZ!!!!

And see, whenever Kaz gets a clutch hit, it's a miracle that deserves to be celebrated.
   347. Joshemy Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2028047)
Kaz Matsui PWN3D all of you.
   348. chris p Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2028048)
clutchzilla™?
   349. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2028051)
I hope Valentin gets on here, if only so Oliver is taken out of the game.
   350. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028053)
Valentin HAS to get on base. It means Heilman would start the sixth.
   351. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028054)
Also, the Mets have been in a bit of an offensive slump lately. The fact that they are keeping up in this game is pretty astounding.

You're kidding, right? Johnson couldn't even get the A's out.
   352. Joshemy Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028055)
E-Rod!
   353. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028057)
E-Rod!
   354. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028058)
Yay A-Rod! And Oliver is out of the game! I really like our chances now.
   355. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2028060)
E-ROD!

Awesome, Woody pinch hitting.
   356. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2028061)
That error is huge, for the reason that Bob said. Oliver is now out of the game.
   357. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2028063)
Woo! Oliver's out!
   358. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2028064)
And Scott Erickson is warming up!
   359. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2028065)
Erickson warming... that sounds fun. Let's go, Woody.
   360. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2028066)
SCOTT ERICKSON IS WARMING UP!
   361. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:13 PM (#2028071)
Congrats to Randy Johnson, he's better than Jose Lima. Hell, it took him only 113 pitches to make it through five.
   362. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:14 PM (#2028076)
You know who must be loving this? Clemens. Can the Yankees afford not to get him?
   363. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2028077)
To be tied after five innings with Gonzalez and Oliver having both pitched is the best-case scenario.
   364. Chris Dial Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2028081)
Is there any way to describe this game other than "quality"?
   365. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:16 PM (#2028084)
Hey, there's an actual good pitcher in the game. Neat.
   366. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:16 PM (#2028085)
That's probably the worst that Giambi has looked at the plate all year. Heilman rocks.
   367. Ska Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:16 PM (#2028086)
Heilman coming in this early is probably an indication that he may be moved into the starting rotation. Indeed, 3 innings today and a start next week for him to go at least 4 probably 5. I think this is what this early appearance indicates.

s.

Yep. Too bad it takes til the sixth to get a real pitcher into the game.
   369. Joshemy Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:18 PM (#2028094)
Hey, Nady got a good jump.
   370. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:18 PM (#2028095)
PHEW!
   371. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:19 PM (#2028098)
1-2-3 inning!
   372. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:19 PM (#2028099)
Did I mention that Heilman rocks?
   373. Chris Dial Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:20 PM (#2028100)
Yes. This is good.
   374. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:20 PM (#2028102)
You gotta love Lima acting like a cheerleader in the dugout. Yeah, dick, stick to doing that #### because you motherforgetting suck.
   375. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:20 PM (#2028103)
You know who must be loving this? Clemens. Can the Yankees afford not to get him?

I believe Clemens' agent has said that there won't be any bidding. Clemens will choose the team, Hendricks will work out the contract.
   376. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:22 PM (#2028107)
Great, Buck and McCarver doing the game on FOX tomorrow.
   377. chris p Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:22 PM (#2028109)
omg torre is slagging scott proctor!
   378. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:22 PM (#2028110)
Yay! Not Erickson!
   379. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2028112)
If it were up to me, I'd call up Soler and give Gonzalez another start. I just like Heilman too much out of the pen.
   380. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2028116)
Reyes with another great AB!
   381. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2028117)
GREAT AB by Reyes!
   382. Joshemy Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2028118)
OH EM GEE! Another Reyes walk.
   383. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2028119)
Awesome at bat, Reyes.
   384. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2028122)
Wow, two walks for Reyes.

Pujols hit his 20th.
   385. AlouGoodbye Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2028123)
Jose Reyes, OBP king.
   386. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2028124)
50 or bust, babyeh!
   387. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2028125)
Let's see a patented Jose Reyes run here.
   388. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028127)
Dammit, Jose.
   389. Banta Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028128)
Damn you, Kelly Stinnett!
   390. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028129)
Rats... great play by the captain, although I don't know if he actually touched him.
   391. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028130)
Dammit!
   392. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028133)
####. Ass. ####.
   393. AlouGoodbye Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2028135)
Beautiful by Jeter. Most underrated athlete in sports.

####!!!!
   395. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:28 PM (#2028137)
Nice tag by Jeter. Have to give him credit there.
   396. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:31 PM (#2028143)
3 absolutely nasty pitches to K Cano. Awesome.
   397. neknhaM yrraL Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:32 PM (#2028145)
According to Sterling Jeter is hurt.
   398. Bob Koo Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2028150)
Unless his spot comes up in the bottom of the inning, you have to leave Heilman in for the 8th. He is dealing out there!
   399. AJM Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2028151)
Heilman rules.
   400. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 19, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2028152)
It is a pleasure listening to Heilman pitch. 18 pitches, 16 strikes.
