   1. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 02:28 PM (#2062171)
Kind of interesting - but in the 6 games between the two teams, no pitcher has more than 1 decision total.
   2. Free Rob Base Posted: June 13, 2006 at 04:51 PM (#2062271)
Huge if -- but if the Mets sweep, do they essentially walk away with the division?
   3. Dewitty_Pun Posted: June 13, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2062299)
Yeah, the division race is over. The Mets are simply too good.
   4. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 05:35 PM (#2062314)
Huge if -- but if the Mets sweep, do they essentially walk away with the division?

No. There'd still be 97 games left in the season.
   5. Free Rob Base Posted: June 13, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2062327)
No. There'd still be 97 games left in the season.

How many times has a team been 10 games up in the middle of June at not won it?
   6. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 13, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2062328)
If I'm around tonight, it'll be my last chatter for a while.

Yes, I am leaving town during a summer winning streak. Has proven costly in these parts before, but the 2006 Mets may be able to overcome this great adversity.

Roadtripping to Tennesse for Bonnaroo with my friends. We'll see if I make it back in one piece.
   7. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:01 PM (#2062383)
I erroneously thought this game was on ESPN2 tonight. oh well - guess its mlbtv.com. Please give me the philly feed and spare me keith hernandez.
   8. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:03 PM (#2062384)
Keith Hernandez owns your soul.
   9. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:05 PM (#2062389)
well as it stands i ain't getting 8888.
mlb.com is having technical diffs for me. Anyone else having problems?
   10. The Clarence Thomas of BTF (scott) Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2062393)
if the mets swept, which they won't, they'd win the division.
   11. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:10 PM (#2062394)
I was having trouble with MLB.tv, but I just was able to get on.
   12. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:10 PM (#2062395)
Reyes's bunts have gotten a lot better.
   13. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:11 PM (#2062396)
Speed may not kill, but it sure entertains.
   14. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:11 PM (#2062397)
Bautifully done by Reyes.
   15. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:12 PM (#2062399)
now its giving me the "you tried too many times to log-on" (while it wasn't working). Try again later"

wtf?
   16. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2062401)
Seems like Reyes has A TON of stolen bases on pitchouts this year.
   17. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2062403)
Wow. LoDuca!
   18. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2062404)
now its giving me the "you tried too many times to log-on" (while it wasn't working). Try again later"

wtf?

I hate to tell you this, Harris, but the only time that happened to me, it was then hours before I was able to log on successfully.

That was perfectly done. What beautiful execution.
   19. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2062406)
I really, really like Reyes.
   20. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2062408)
crud - way its looking I might not want to watch the game.
   21. Bob Koo Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2062409)
Man, Beltran is killing the ball.
   22. Thirty-two Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2062410)
More importantly, speaking as a Phils fan, a Mets sweep would force me to stop pretending the Phils have a chance. Which would mean another summer without baseball, essentially.

The Phils will undoubtedly mount a "charge" in August-September, as they have the past few years, but that's not the same thing as staying competitive all summer.
   23. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2062412)
Harris, you might want to call up tech support. I got that message for my gameday audio awhile ago and it turns out that they screwed something up.
   24. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:17 PM (#2062414)
thanks for the words of encouragment Sam. I'm on what appears to be permanent hold with the MLBtv customer service line. I really hope the person on the other end speaks english.
   25. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:17 PM (#2062415)
You can come over here and watch the game, Harris.
   26. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:17 PM (#2062416)
Random passing thought: I assume Pete Rose must hold the record for most outs made, career? As young as Jose Reyes has started, if he has a really long career, and keeps not walking, and stays as a lead-off hitter, he could hold that record someday.
   27. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2062419)
Sam,
yes, Rose holds that record. It's an old rsb joke.
   28. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:19 PM (#2062421)
And before you call, re-boot...
   29. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:20 PM (#2062422)
That's a pretty pessimistic way of looking at things Sam. The guy is on pace for 65-70 walks this season.
   30. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2062426)
That's a pretty pessimistic way of looking at things Sam.

Kind of, but OTOH, I'll bet a HOF-quality player has virtually always held that record. You've got to be awfully good to last long enough to get that one. If Reyes can pile up that many outs, he's also going to pile up a lot of runs, hits, steals, XBH, total bases, etc. That'll be an awfully valuable career.
   31. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2062428)
so you can all share in my current purgatory of hold, I'll give you hte play by play of the hold music.

current selection: Bonnie Raitt - Something to Talk About.
   32. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2062431)
Called it.
   33. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2062432)
Oh damn it, where has Glavine's pixie dust gone?!
   34. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2062433)
OK, that wasn't such a good start for Glavine. Oops.
   35. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2062435)
Glavine gets a lead... he gives it up. Oy vey!
   36. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2062436)
Harris, you should owe me a soda for that one.
   37. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2062438)
Santana - Black Magic Woman

(should've been Jimmy Rollins singing 'anything tou can do I can do better')

And no I don't owe you a soda when I'm the one who pointed out to you how much Rollins has owned Glavine.
   38. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2062439)
Seriously, I told Harris that would happen about 4 pm today.
   39. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:29 PM (#2062444)
It's in his kiss by the marvellettes (?)
   40. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2062447)
The Association - And Along came Mary (I actually like this one - just not in the current context)
   41. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2062449)
off hold finally
   42. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2062451)
dang - back on hold - forever and ever/say a little prayer - no idea who's singing it - sounds bad, like fantasia from american idol
   43. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:33 PM (#2062452)
You could at lleast acknowledge I called it...
   44. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2062453)
yes you called it - right after I told you Rollins owned Glavine. Congratulations.
   45. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2062456)
Stevie Wonder - don't know title .....making feelings all over perhaps? hes saying that a lot.
   46. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2062459)
making feelings all over perhaps? hes saying that a lot.

I believe that would be "Sir Duke."
   47. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2062460)
ahhhh.....the soothing voice of Harry Kalas. Sam - all you had to do was call up and be put on hold for like 20 minutes.
   48. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2062461)
You could have driven over here by now, harris.
   49. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:39 PM (#2062463)
I believe that would be "Sir Duke."

info filed away Sam - can recognize and appreciate Stevie, but not really a gigantic fan of his.

For what it's worth that sounds more like the name of a dog than a song.
   50. Bob Koo Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2062464)
Glavine's changeup is spotty again tonight.
   51. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2062465)
Damn, I hate this ballpark.
   52. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2062466)
Woo Aaron Rowand!!!!
   53. AJM Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2062468)
Dammit Tommy.
   54. J in the Slope Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2062469)
I can't believe that went out.
   55. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2062471)
Damn, I hate this ballpark.
Maybe if the Mets won here more often....
   56. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2062475)
Sal Fasano may be hitting 250, but he's been more than I could have hoped for from a back-up catcher with respect to likability and defense.
   57. Thirty-two Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2062478)
How fatigued does your everyday right fielder have to be before you start Endy Chavez?
   58. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2062480)
Gah, Glavine, stop sucking.
   59. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2062481)
Tom Glavine, get the #### off the mound. Spare us your lousy outing.
   60. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2062482)
If it's the Mets version of Endy Chavez, not so fatigues. If it's the Nats/Phils version - he needs to be dead.
   61. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2062484)
For what it's worth that sounds more like the name of a dog than a song.

Duke Ellington (not being a dog) is not rolling over in his grave. He's weeping.
   62. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:49 PM (#2062486)
sorry sam - didn't get the reference.
   63. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2062493)
Sam - all you had to do was call up and be put on hold for like 20 minutes.

Every time I've tried to call customer service, I've gotten a busy signal. Never even gotten on hold. Glad it worked better for you, though.

I, however, am getting damned tired of getting the "other" team's announcers on MLB.tv. We got them every game in the Arizona series, and three games of Mark Grace followed by one with Joe Garagiola as the color man was enough to send me screaming into the insane asylum. And, while this is a vast improvement, isn't it about time to get the Mets' announcers, just by the law of averages???
   64. Crispix Attacks is the best Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2062496)
I think this thread already has more posts than the last 20 Phillies threads. I guess there are some advantages to the Mets having their best season ever at the exact same time that the Braves finally collapse -- lively internet chatter.
   65. Thirty-two Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2062497)
Reyes is never going to break Rose's record if he keeps playing the Phils 18 times a year
   66. Bob Koo Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2062498)
Bunting in this situation, in this park, with the way Glavine is going, is really, really stupid.
   67. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:55 PM (#2062502)
Jose Reyes pauses in his chase of the all-time outs record to smack a wall-ball double!!!

I'm making a home-made pizza. Anyone who can get to my place in the next 45 minutes is welcome to a couple of slices. Awesome stuff, if I do say so myself.
   68. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:55 PM (#2062503)
OOh, that pitch to Beltran looked like a strike to me.
   69. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062504)
Carlos Beltran is pretty damn cool.
   70. J in the Slope Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062505)
M-V-P, M-V-P!
   71. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062506)
Beltran!
   72. Bob Koo Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062507)
Why would you challenge Beltran with another high fastball? That's lunacy.
   73. AJM Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062508)
BELTRAN!
   74. Free Rob Base Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062509)
wow
   75. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2062511)
Beltran trying to make a play for back-to-back Player of the Week honors!!! Man, he's just on FIRE!
   76. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2062513)
Beltran is unconcious right now.
   77. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2062514)
Crispix,
all Mets chatters are like this - even the suicide watch ones. We don't have to be the best to have a good chatter - we're just better fans...
   78. Dewitty_Pun Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2062515)
How many times has a team been 10 games up in the middle of June at not won it?

There's been a few, but this Mets team is loaded.
   79. Banta Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2062516)
This lineup is ####### ridiculous right now.
   80. AJM Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2062519)
Holy #### that was crushed!
   81. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2062520)
Carlos # 2 says, "Hey! ME TOO!"
   82. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2062523)
I like it better when Madson doesn't throw gopher balls.
   83. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2062524)
Carlos Delgado just asked Rollins for the lyrics of the song he was singing earlier.

Madson isn't a good starting pitcher. He just isn't.
   84. Crispix Attacks is the best Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2062526)
Why would you challenge Beltran with another high fastball? That's lunacy.

Maybe it would get called a strike the second time.
   85. Srul Itza Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2062527)
1. This is the Post-Season Beltran the Mets hoped they were getting.

2. The magic pixie dust has worn off, and Tom Glavine is back to 2003-2004 Tommy
   86. Bob Koo Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:01 PM (#2062529)
This lineup is so much fun to watch these days.
   87. Srul Itza Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2062530)
3. If the Mets keep hitting like this for the rest of the game, they may just win it anyway.
   88. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2062531)
we're just better fans...

I like us, too, but we've got our problem children, too.
   89. Chris Dial Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2062532)
Crispix,
all Mets chatters are like this - even the suicide watch ones. We don't have to be the best to have a good chatter - we're just better fans...
   90. The Clarence Thomas of BTF (scott) Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:03 PM (#2062533)
the mets chatters are my favorite chatters.
   91. Free Rob Base Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:05 PM (#2062537)
Its a little early to write off Glavine, don't ya think.
   92. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:05 PM (#2062538)
2. The magic pixie dust has worn off, and Tom Glavine is back to 2003-2004 Tommy

That seems a little bit premature, Srul. Well, more than a little bit premature. A lot premature.
   93. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2062542)
and so ends the phillies string of leadoff homers.
   94. Srul Itza Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2062543)
I always say, panic early and avoid the Christmas rush.
   95. The Clarence Thomas of BTF (scott) Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2062544)
jesus.
   96. Russlan thinks Jose Reyes pops up too much Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2062545)
Well, 2004 Glavine was pretty good. 3.50-3.75 ERA is more than respectable.
   97. AJM Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2062546)
Ugh.
   98. Crispix Attacks is the best Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2062547)
Abreu!

I must say, Glavine looks at least 60 in his GameCast photo. Maybe it ages as he stays the same.
   99. Harris Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2062548)
it would be nice if we could hit one with a guy on base....4 hits = 3 HR, a single and a walk.
   100. Sam M. Posted: June 13, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2062551)
I think keeping the ball down, down, down is pretty much the only hope ANY pitcher has in this park tonight. As Fats Waller once wrote,

This joint is jumpin,
It's really jumpin.
Man, this spot is more than hot.
In fact, the joint is jumpin'.

Yikes.
