NYY (29-20) at DET (35-16) - 7:05 PM EDT

NYY: Small (0-2, 8.59 ERA)
DET: Colon (0-0, 3.60 ERA)

Aaron Small’s 2005 looks more and more like one of these. That said, I expect the Tigers to make up for the last 18 innings of scoreless baseball in fairly short order.

That's not bad Sean, but I would've gone for one of these

What are the chances of the Giants dealing Bonds to the Tigers?
   3. rsmith51 Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2044310)
I am sure the Giants would be happy to trade Bonds for Verlander.
   4. rsmith51 Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2044313)
Starting lineup:

Melky Cabrera LF
Derek Jeter SS
Gary Sheffield RF
Jason Giambi 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Robinson CanĂ³ 2B
Bernie Williams CF
Terrence Long DH

Yes, that is 2 games in a row that Long is the DH. Perhaps Torre doesn't understand the meaning of the H...
   5. rsmith51 Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:35 PM (#2044321)
Apparently Gameday has a different lineup...

The Melk-man!
   7. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2044348)
I predicted Melky's first XBH would be a triple sometime in the next 8 days last week on RLYW, I was a double away from being right.

Why does Jeter suck now?

if damon isn't healhy enough to even DH, this could be bad. torre realizes how imoportant these games against detroit are, right?

Melky is awesome. I'm lying in my living room, dying. The transition from Ithaca weather to Bronx weather has not been kind.
   20. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:53 PM (#2044468)
I meant to ask why Colon is starting. I thought the Tigers rotation was Bonderman-Rogers-Verlander-Robertson-Maroth.
   21. KronicFatigue Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:54 PM (#2044479)
you know, if you added sheff, damon and matsui to this lineup, it would be pretty good.

So is Cano breaking out of his suckiness finally (3 hits yesterday right?)? Still no power though.

   28. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:58 PM (#2044725)
That Aaron Small sure does suck. I'm using a lot of the word suck today. It's cuz I'm a college graduate now and I don't have to use big words to impress other people anymore.

Human Resources.

Stupid Jeter with the stupid errors. And now the Jefe has decided to bring in Erickson. I hate this team
   44. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2044807)
Human Resources.

Harold Reynolds would be more interesting.

Erickson can get ahead. He can't put anybody away. Because he's terrible.
   45. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2044808)
Oh sure, now he turns the DP
   46. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:25 PM (#2044809)
Where's that guy who says Jeter is off to a hot start in the field? How the hell does anyone come to that conclusion this year?
   47. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2044811)
You should be critical more often RB.
   48. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2044814)
Jeter is off to a hot start with the glove because he's off to a hot start with the bat. And that's all a lot of people see when it comes to such things
   49. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2044819)
Need more runs. Three at least.
   50. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:28 PM (#2044820)
Now that I have that college degree, I'm 56% more critical
   51. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:32 PM (#2044829)
Yep, we're losing this one
   52. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:35 PM (#2044834)
One gets the feeling that Leyland is trying a lot harder to win that Torre is. Thus, Leyland brings in his young bullpen assassin and Torre brings in his old broke down nag.

And now Proctor in an inappropriate role.
   53. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:40 PM (#2044843)
Thus, Leyland brings in his young bullpen assassin and Torre brings in his old broke down nag.
Well, not to defend Joe's bullpen usage, which is often head-scratching at best, but does he have a young bullpen assassin hiding somewhere that he's not using?
   54. Tim D Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:41 PM (#2044851)
Maroth is on the DL. His elbow hurts. Colon has always blown as a starter, pitched well in relief. So.... let's start him against the Yankees. Grilli would have been a better choice. Hindsight.
   55. rsmith51 Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2044854)
Perhaps he does at Columbus. Not on the current roster.
   56. Tim D Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2044855)
Only NY trip to Motown this year. I interleague play.
   57. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:43 PM (#2044856)
Well, not to defend Joe's bullpen usage, which is often head-scratching at best, but does he have a young bullpen assassin hiding somewhere that he's not using?

I know, but Leyland went to his best option and Torre went to his worst option. I like Proctor okay with a two-run lead.
   58. Tim D Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:45 PM (#2044862)
Why has Colter Bean been treated like a rolled-up tube of toothpaste? He sure has put up consistently good numbers in the minors.
   59. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:46 PM (#2044867)
It would basically seem to come down to whether or not The Professor can pitch tonight. If he can't, then you have to 4 innings from some combinations of Erickson, Myers, Proctor and Rivera (assuming Villone is not, of course, able to pitch). Given those options, the 6th is the best inning it seems to be, to get an innings from Erickson. If he can, of course, then you use Proctor for the 6th and 7th, rather than 7th and 8th
   60. EB Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2044872)

He had a bad inning in the majors. Joe won't stand for that.

Thats one bitter cup of coffee.
   61. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2044874)
Colter Bean can't get ML hitters out, apparently. Melky with another hit.
   62. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2044875)
If this game goes extras, Melky might have a shot at a cycle.
   63. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:49 PM (#2044879)
Of course, now that Farnsworth is warming up, Joe was stupid to use Erickson.
   64. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:49 PM (#2044880)
See, I don't think Farnsworth's inning yesterday should preclude him from pitching today.

Zumaya is nasty.
   66. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:51 PM (#2044883)
Jeter has provided negative value tonight.
   67. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:52 PM (#2044885)
Are the Tigers going to just be satisfied with Zumaya as an ace reliever or will they let him get some starts again? That'd be a nasty rotation with Verlander, Bonderman, and Zumaya.
   68. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:52 PM (#2044888)
That's a matter of personal taste, I suppose. Let's see, The Professor pitched Friday and Sunday. So it would 3 days in 4. That's not killer, but it might worth giving Proctor a shot at two innings
   69. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:54 PM (#2044891)
Be nice to Giambi to deposit one in Canada and make it a moot point

Wasn't it only an inning each day. I'd let him go today and hold him out of tomorrow's game.

I had no idea that putting nitrogen in your tires improves performance. I've been using a mixture of about 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen with a little carbon dioxide and a few other trace chemicals. I've gone to a lot of trouble for no benefit.
   72. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:57 PM (#2044896)
Giambi has also been negative value today.

Good news Everyone!
   74. Tim D Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:58 PM (#2044901)
Lot's of people think Zumaya profiles better as a reliever. I don't agree, but if it keeps his IP down in in his 21-22 uears I'm all for it. And he's been pretty good except for one fastball down the middle to Griffey with the bases loaded.

Colter Bean will catch on somewhere and become a useful major league pitcher. Or at least better than Scott Erickson (I know, that isn't much).

The main screw-up is walking Shelton on four pitches. Sure, he's a good hitter and could tie the game, but you have to go after him.

I don't watch TV except for baseball and old war movies. So pardon me for missing Prf. Farnsworth.

Whoever he is he's wild as all get out. He's always had a few outings like this even when he's going good.

Also, if I never had to hear about what an amazing athlete Brandon Inge was again, I could die a happy man. Being able to play C, 3B and CF does not, by that mere fact, make one an amazing athlete and beating out a DP is not further evidence
