You know, the Yankees should take a good look at Church. I think both parties over there are ready for a mutual divorce, and Cashman probably wouldn't have to give up that much. I still think he has a great deal of upside.
   2. Sean McNally Posted: May 31, 2006 at 04:11 PM (#2045761)
In my head I worked out a TLong, Colter Bean, _____________ + Cash for Church + ___________ swap. But, somehow I think that makes too much sense.
   3. bebop Posted: May 31, 2006 at 06:40 PM (#2045947)
no jeter, chef or damon-better see very very good moose tonight.
   4. JH (in DC) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 07:07 PM (#2045976)
If they're going to grab Church, they'd better do it fast. It's the Bodes/Frank axis that hates him. I could also see him being a throw-in piece in a Soriano trade, a la Sledge in the Wilkerson-Soriano deal.

Oh, dear, what a lineup.
   6. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2046015)
If they get rained out, maybe Jeter and Damon can play tomorrow.

If they get rained out, maybe Jeter and Damon can play tomorrow.

If they get rained out, maybe Richard Hidalgo and Erubiel Durazo can play.

Man, I was hoping for the rainout.
   9. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:43 PM (#2046285)
At least on a day a lefty is pitching Jorge and Bernie are a little more dangerous. This lineup is comically bad.
   10. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2046292)
Hip! Hip!
   11. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2046293)
I don't know why Robertson gave Posada anything to hit.
   12. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2046314)
That's not where the strike zone is, Michael.
   13. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:49 PM (#2046319)
Worst. Strike Zone. Ever.
   14. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:50 PM (#2046321)
On the one hand, a four pitch walk is terrible. On the other hand, at least it isn't a ten-pitch walk, featuring a bunch of fouls.
   15. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2046331)
On the third hand, at least 2 of those first 4 pitches, and arguably all 4 were strikes.
   16. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:52 PM (#2046336)
That turned in to a pretty good inning.
   17. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:53 PM (#2046343)
That inning ended a lot better than it began.
   18. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:53 PM (#2046345)
oh, no one ever explained the bernie doubles to catcher thing to me. HTF did he double to catcher?
   19. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 08:55 PM (#2046355)
Mussina made like Jon Lieber that inning. I know he hasn't been very good in Philly, but I miss Lieber.
   20. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2046370)
I switched from the Yankees to the Mets. Pedro is dealing and it's impossible not to watch.
   21. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2046382)
haha, can you believe the Yankees and Red Sox both passed on Pedro...for friggin rejects like Matt Clement, Carl Pavano, and the big Useless.
   22. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2046389)
The Tigers are up there swinging the bats. Probably plays into Mussina's hand.
   23. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2046390)
wow, Miguel Cairo SUCKS at throwing from SS. Just put ####### A-Rod there.
   24. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2046396)
Seriosuly, he lokos like he's throwing ####### eephus pitches.

I was begging the Yankees to go for him that winter.
   26. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2046403)
UGH! they took out Pedro for a pinch hitte.r I really wanted to see him pitch the ninth.
   27. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2046418)
Cairo's making me long for Jeter.
   28. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2046420)
This Detroit lineup is very good. Nobody is a monster, but nobody sucks, either (although Monroe's and Polanco's OBPs leave something to be desired). Very solid.
   29. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2046430)
Nice AB, Cairo.
   30. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:13 PM (#2046436)
gaaah...A-Rod missed that one by a hairsbreadth
   31. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:13 PM (#2046439)
Nice inning by Robertson. He's a pretty decent pitcher.

Did you guys know that Brandon Inge is probably the best athelete on the Tigers because he can play multiple posiitions?
   33. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:23 PM (#2046470)
Did you guys know that Brandon Inge is probably the best athelete on the Tigers because he can play multiple posiitions?

Does that make a football player the best athlete on the team if he can play Offensive Center, Offensive Guard, Offensive Tackle, Defensive Tackle, and Blocking Tight End on short downs?
   34. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:23 PM (#2046475)
Steve Goldman brought up a good point today. With Posada banged up, Stinnnett being horrible, and bats in general in short supply right now, wouldn't Mike Piazza be nice to have as a DH spot catcher?
   35. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:24 PM (#2046477)
Granderson's been striking out looking a lot the last couple days.

Nice job by Mussina there.

It means Kordell Stewart is the greatest player in American history.

1876. If you're gonna screw up, you might as well screw up royally.
   40. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:35 PM (#2046514)
The Yankees starting outfield right now is Melky Cabrera, Terrence Long, and Bernie Williams.

Think about that for a second.
   41. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:39 PM (#2046534)
I like bunting with Long. Prevents the DP. That's the kind of confidence I have in Long.
   42. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:40 PM (#2046537)
Wow, he walked Long. Not good, Nate.
   43. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2046543)
wtf? he was standing int he batters box
   44. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2046549)
I hate bunting with Melky. He's probably the fourth best hitter in the lineup, by default. He's also got Cairo hitting after him.
   45. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:46 PM (#2046560)
I understand Jeter is hurt and can't play. But that's no excuse for batting Cairo second.
   46. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:46 PM (#2046562)
This is not a clutch situation.

ARod in the dreaded clutch spot.

Was the second baseman ever ON the bag?
   49. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:49 PM (#2046571)
My clutch-o-tron 5000 just exploded trying to determine if that was clutch or not.
   50. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:52 PM (#2046582)
Well, maybe they'll take 1 out of 3 from the Red Sox at least.
   51. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:53 PM (#2046586)
oh god
   52. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 09:54 PM (#2046589)
Don't walk Monroe, Michael.

   57. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:09 PM (#2046646)
Looks like some weak hits Mussina gave up there.
   58. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:12 PM (#2046655)
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!

Looked like it was gonna be a tough inning but he only threw 8 pitches!
   59. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:12 PM (#2046658)
Mike Mussina is still supercool and groovy.

I'm back from attempting to watch the game in Bryant Park. The rainout led to a fair amount of sitting about, although they did trot out Gossage, Leyritz, Tommy John and Nettles, so that was fun.

Best/Worst Part of the Evening: They're giving away free pair of tickets. I have #09241. Announced number? 09240. Ahhh!
   61. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:17 PM (#2046678)
wow, Miguel Cairo SUCKS at throwing from SS. Just put ####### A-Rod there.

It's pretty clear Torre's trying to protect Jeter by not playing an obviously superior defender in his stead. That's the only possible justification.
   62. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:19 PM (#2046683)
I woulda felt a lot better about this game if Melky's shot had gone out.
   63. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:21 PM (#2046690)
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!
   64. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:22 PM (#2046691)
The Tigers are really helping Mussina out.
   65. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:22 PM (#2046693)
Is this what they mean when they say "pitching like he's in a rocking chair?"
   66. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:23 PM (#2046697)
Moose at 73 pitches through 7.

That's the kind of insurance run I like to see.

Tough luck for Robertson. He pitched very well.
   71. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:27 PM (#2046714)
They gotta get A-Rod in
   72. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:28 PM (#2046723)
Unclutch, Jorge.

Mission accomplished. And Robby reaches, which is a plus
   75. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:31 PM (#2046743)
That'll do Robby! Playin' pepper!
   76. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:31 PM (#2046744)

   79. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:38 PM (#2046767)
It would be nice if Mussina could get Inge out for once.
   80. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:39 PM (#2046771)
Even better.

Mussina is so awesome, especially on a night when Farnsworth is questionable and Rivera is completely unavailable.
   81. villainx Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:40 PM (#2046777)
good enough for RLR?
   82. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:42 PM (#2046779)

well, not really...I thouight it was gone off the bat but it barely made the track in center

That's ok, Boston can win so long as the Yankees do too, this has not been a good couple of days for them.

MELKY! MELKY!!! RUNNIN ALL OVER THE PLACE
   90. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:48 PM (#2046799)
Apparently, since the Yankees are now up by 5 runs, a grand slam can't tie it. Weird.
   91. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:49 PM (#2046800)
Really nice work by Melky. Little ball personified.
   92. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:52 PM (#2046806)
I still let Mussina finish this game up.
   93. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:53 PM (#2046808)
Poor Robertson pitched better than his line. I guess Leyland left him in because the pen was gassed from yesterday.
   94. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:53 PM (#2046809)
Well, barring a ninth inning comeback (which would impress me) I think I can safely say the Tigers do not impress me at all, as unfair a judgement that is to make based on three games
   95. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:54 PM (#2046811)
I definitely send Moose out there, let him get the CG shutout, he's pitched well this year, he deserves it
   96. Sean McNally Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:56 PM (#2046815)
Gotta let Moose finish this, particularly after the beating the pen took the last week or so.

One down!
   98. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:59 PM (#2046817)
Come on, A-Rod. We're trying to make it easy here, let's not have any drama
   99. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: May 31, 2006 at 10:59 PM (#2046819)
I'm actually hoping that the Tigers are a good team. Partly because it would make these three games more impressive for New York. But mostly because I like the Tigers and my Doctress is a big Tigers fan.
   100. Sean McNally Posted: May 31, 2006 at 11:00 PM (#2046820)
Andy's gotta pick that.
