Do Denorfia and Davis really look like Privates Pyle and Cowboy? Denorfia looks more oily somehow. I don't really remember what Cowboy looked like.
   5. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 29, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2763749)
I decided on Private Pyle months ago strictly on account of the Denorfia/D'Onofrio thing. I suppose Joker would've been the most logical choice when Sweeney became the long half of the platoon, but I couldn't resist calling somebody Animal Mother. When Davis arrived, I was committed to continuing the "Full Metal Jacket" theme, but I couldn't very well call him Joker -- that would've amounted to top billing -- so I picked what I considered a suitably minor character.

Ah. Let's get some runs!

Should I be concerned that Frank struck out on a Joe Saunders high fastball despite standing at the very back of the batter's box?
   8. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2763782)
"Eightball," by the way, was never a consideration. Lacked all manner of subtlety.

It's totally weird having Terry Mulholland's ghost pitching for the team.

No Barton again? I hope they're just trying to convince someone to trade for sweeney...
   10. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:36 PM (#2763803)
He's not a question mark for the Hall. Shut up, Physioc.
   11. Danny Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2763805)
The Wonder Dog and crew are questioning Frank's HOF qualifications. Loathe is too mild.

The idiocy of guys like Hudler and Physioc makes you appreciate the relentless blandness of Glen Kuiper or Vince Cotroneo.

I never knew Joe Saunders was so good.
   15. Dan Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2763821)
He's no Cliff Lee.

What the #### are you bunting for?
   17. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2763824)
A hit?
   18. HighandOutside Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2763825)
okay, who is this Saunders dude...suppose I'll click link. BTW the Angels announcers are terrible. Best game on right now, but they are a mess
   19. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2763826)
You've just summarized my evening.
   20. HighandOutside Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2763827)
WHIP is impressive this year, thus far. Is he typically strong in April? Or has he significally improved?
   21. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: April 29, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2763828)
Joe Saunders has been a revelation.
   22. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2763829)
Saunders really hasn't been around long enough for us to know about any early season/late season performances. He's always had upside, and has had some impressive starts the last two seasons. Always thought he'd be a nice middle/bottom rotation starter. Nothing like this, though.
   23. HighandOutside Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2763830)
For some reason I actually have started to like Grace this year with the Diamondback games. He can be a bit of nut, but he does seem to do a decent job of getting you inside the pitcher-batter confrontation. For my money, however, the Giant announcers do the best when it comes to that aspect.
   24. HighandOutside Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2763832)
Speaking of which, here come the Dbacks...again
   25. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2763835)
I was hoping for Cust and Barton this inning.
   26. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2763837)
I imagine we'll be seeing Sweeney bat for Thomas...

############' way to get it started.

LOW!
   29. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2763840)
We'll see if pixie dust outweighs the platoon advantage, I suppose.
   30. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2763841)
#26 called it, sort of
   31. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:16 AM (#2763845)
Nothing but sliders, and he just swings and swings and swings.
   32. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:16 AM (#2763846)
Has Brown turned into a pumpkin?
   33. Danny Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:17 AM (#2763847)
Free Cust!
   34. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:18 AM (#2763848)
Aybar!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeew.
   35. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:19 AM (#2763849)
Ugh. A loss.
   36. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2763850)
There's no way Cust shouldn't have batted somewhere in that inning -- either for Ellis, Brown or Crosby.
   37. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2763851)
But, hey, at least Geren had Cust ready to go bat sixth in the inning.
   38. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: April 30, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2763852)
Nothing but good starts for Saunders so far. If he's anywhere near this effective the length of the season, maybe the Angels can survive without Escobar this season.
