Buck living his dream in bigs -- thanks to his mom

MLB.com's timing is impeccable.

You can't blame them for not believing Buck was really optioned because Emil Brown is a fixture.

Three starts in 39 games for Harden isn't bad. He's on pace for 12 starts, only one fewer than 2006 and 2007 combined.

For some reason Denorfia's in on the facial hair thing too.

Carl Crawford! I really should just adopt the Rays.
   12. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 03:43 PM (#2776796)
Ya but they're better than us. I'm not comfortable adopting someone better.

Duchscherer? That better be a side session...
   14. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 03:57 PM (#2776824)
I'm thinking he pitches 5-6 today. Blanton Tuesday on 5 days rest, then Smith and Eveland on four each.
   15. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:00 PM (#2776830)
Nice to see the Rangers branching out and adding seeing-eye grounders to their litany of weak two-out hits.
   16. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:02 PM (#2776832)
They have a .714 BABIP
   17. Holliday in Alameda (jonathan) Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:04 PM (#2776835)
I think the most disturbing thing about this team is what little offense they are generating seems to all be coming from guys who can't really be counted into the long-term plans. Suzuki, Barton, Ryan Sweeney, Buck. They haven't produced really anything. Not that I expected Ryan Sweeney to hit any, but it would've been nice to see one of the young guys break out and hit a little.

Also I'm glad I decided to tune in right when Rich Harden decided he wasn't capable of getting more outs.
   20. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:06 PM (#2776843)
The other way to look at that is that they're winning despite getting very little contribution from Buck, Barton, Suzuki, Chavez, Thomas or Carlos.

Low, low bar.

I hate texas the most, I think. At least I respect the Angels.
   25. Still Waiting on Pork Chops (John R.) Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:43 PM (#2776940)
How can you possibly hate Texas? It's like hating the Washington Generals...

I mean, what's one poorly-aimed folding chair into a crowd between friends?
   26. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2776944)
The Rangers were pretty good in the late 1990s
   27. BourbonSamurai Posted: May 11, 2008 at 04:45 PM (#2776948)
Because they always seem to play us tough as hell, despite being a gaggle of morons.

Also, Juan Gonzalez. Hated him a lot.

I'm obligated to hate any organization that employs Josh Lewin. When his ass gets canned I'll go back to being completely indifferent.

Is German-Thomas really more of a "heavyweight battle" than Ponson-Thomas?
   30. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:10 PM (#2776984)
Neither is a sumo bout
   31. Still Waiting on Pork Chops (John R.) Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:12 PM (#2776986)
Morons is a bit harsh IMO. The Rangers haven't been good the past few years, but I'm not sure they've done much to engender that label (well, except for the owner, of course).

And why the reflexive hate for Josh Lewin? Jim Knox I could understand (and even support), but Lewin just strikes me as a decent broadcaster with a tangent towards comedy.

That was nearly a decade ago, Ivan. I'm sure I could turn on sports talk radio right now and find people wanting Dave Tippett/Les Jackson/Brett Hull on a pike in Victory Plaza despite the fact that the Stars just won two series they realistically had no business winning, and played a heckuva game last night against what should be the best team in hockey.

I have no words.

There's always something he won't shut up about, be it Kevin Mench's new shoes or the Ranger staff on a shutout streak. He harps and harps and harps until I want to strangle him.
   34. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:30 PM (#2776997)
I hope Ellis doesn't end up getting charged with that error. It would be a setback in the effort to eclipse Polanco's bogus errorless streak.

Proving once again that you'd rather have Crosby than Ichiro on third when someone gets picked off on the fake-to-third, throw-to-first play.
   37. Still Waiting on Pork Chops (John R.) Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:39 PM (#2777001)
OK...let me make sure I understand this...the Texas Rangers had a shutout streak longer than any team in the AL in the past 10 years (I seem to remember it was '95 the last time a shutout streak went that long, but I could be mistaken, and I'm too lazy to go look it up right now), and you're upset he kept talking about it. OK...if this were the Yankees or Red Soz or Twins, maybe...but this is the Texas F'in Rangers we're talking about...who in the past decade would be HAPPY if the pitching staff held 'em to 6 a game. It's the shock value of it, much like the 78-year-old blind guy bowling a perfect game, or Juan McCain making it through a breath without mention radical Islamic extremists.

The Mench shoes thing? OK...it did get old after a bit...but it's Kevin Mench...and Kevin Mench jokes never get old. Ya know it's coming, much like "Goodnight, Gracie" and Gallagher's Sledge-O-Matic, but it's the standing joke - you just get used to it.
   38. Holliday in Alameda (jonathan) Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:43 PM (#2777003)
For the record, I am completely indifferent to the Texas Rangers. I hate Anaheim, and I kinda like Seattle.
   39. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: May 11, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2777005)
There's a difference between acknowledging something that's taking place and harping. Lewin doesn't recognize that difference.
