should be fun to watch, if i wasnt ####### stuck at commanders call then
   4. retro-shiite Posted: April 17, 2007 at 01:38 PM (#2337082)
I've got a mandatory meeting at 2, so I'll miss part of Pie's debut. Kinda cool he gets to start his MLB career against Maddux. So if they don't DL Soriano, who gets shipped out?

Word seems to be a pitcher but Gameday has 26 Cubs listed at the moment.

Guzman to Iowa.
   7. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 01:58 PM (#2337106)
As the token Padre representative, I guess this responsibility falls upon my shoulders:

Pliny the Younger
Pliny the Elder
Cameron
Gonzalez
Greene
Sledge
Kouzmanoff
Bowen
His Dogliness

Run Gileseses!
   9. The New Gloucester Whaler Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:33 PM (#2337122)
Well, at least Wade Miller is looking sharper this time out.
   10. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:39 PM (#2337126)
You shame yourself with that pansy swinging bunt.
   11. steffens Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:40 PM (#2337128)
Guzman will no doubt be back up shortly. Either as soon as Soriano is ready again and the Cubs send Pie back down, or as soon as the Cubs decide Wade Miller isn't the answer as 5th starter.
   12. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:46 PM (#2337132)
Guzman has to stay down at least ten days, right?
   13. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:47 PM (#2337135)
ARAM picking up where he left off!
   14. steffens Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:50 PM (#2337137)
Guzman has to stay down at least ten days, right?

Which is perhaps how long they think Soriano will be out. In any event, the Cubs haven't had much need for 7 relievers yet this year. My guess is that Guzman will be given a start at Iowa to allow him to build up arm strength to enter the rotation should Miller have another bad start.
   15. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:53 PM (#2337138)
I heard that the MRI was negative on Sori's hammy. Ten days seems like a long time to go without the roster spot. If they really thought he was going to be out that long, wouldn't they DL him?
   16. Meatwad Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:55 PM (#2337141)
i hope they do give guzman the 5th starter spot, last night he looked good out there
   17. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 02:56 PM (#2337143)
Grr...is the ink dry on that transaction yet. Are we sure we can't get Guzman back, like say, right now. Miller sucks.
   18. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 03:54 PM (#2337179)
Son of a #####.
   19. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 03:55 PM (#2337181)
all right pie!
   20. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 03:59 PM (#2337185)
The Padre defense has really covered itself in glory this afternoon.
   21. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2337194)
Bunting with a lefty on the mound and a force at third is a recipe for that exact result.

####### Padres.
   22. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 04:09 PM (#2337197)
Particularly with a catcher running, by the way.

############# Padres.

So how did Miller look? Those peripherals aren't impressive, but the score doesn't look too bad.
   24. VoodooR Posted: April 17, 2007 at 04:33 PM (#2337225)
he was lucky not to give up six or seven runs, andere. he was playing with fire all afternoon. didn't seem to be able to locate anything other than his fastball.
   25. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 04:53 PM (#2337254)
Why aren't they using Eyre or Ohman against Gonzalez?
   26. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 04:56 PM (#2337262)
Bet they walk Sledge to pitch to Kouzmanoff.
   27. steffens Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:11 PM (#2337273)
Cedeno doubled off on a live drive in the 9th. Make sure the line drives go through, right?
   28. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:19 PM (#2337279)
Don't mind sending him..Cameron is prone to striking out and double plays.
   29. steffens Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:22 PM (#2337282)
Needless to say, if Jacque Jones had been in center, the Padres would be winning this game, making the Pie call-up look real good right now.
   30. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:22 PM (#2337283)
How about a game winning jack now, Felix?
   31. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:24 PM (#2337284)
I was happy when Maddux signed with San Diego because I looked forward to having a National League team I could embrace, but I find these guys every bit as frustrating and anger-inducing as the Cubs were.
   32. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:24 PM (#2337285)
I can't remember the last time I saw a throw like that from a Cubs outfielder.
   33. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:25 PM (#2337287)
Shut up Brenly.
   34. retro-shiite Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2337296)
GameDay's frozen at Theriot's walk. What's going on.

Pie's got a gun, I take it?
   35. retro-shiite Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:46 PM (#2337299)
Dear lord, GameDay sucks balls. Now it's saying groundout, after falling an inning and a half behind...
   36. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 05:56 PM (#2337309)
Theriot walked then the 3rd base ump said time was called before th pitch so the sent him back to hit. That fed up gameday.
   37. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:16 PM (#2337318)
These extra inning affairs that go past the 10th never seem to end well. Especially when the wind's blowing in. Just saying.
   38. Sweet Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:20 PM (#2337321)
Yikes, Theriot looked lost on Greene's double.

Was Ohman out of options? If not, why wasn't he sent down instead of Guzman? I like the guy, but he's looked very hittable so far this year.
   39. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:26 PM (#2337324)
That Jacque, what a hell of a fielder.

I think "so far this year" is the important caveat. He was decent in 05-06.
   41. Greg Franklin Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:32 PM (#2337329)
I forgot about that second take-me-out-to-the-ballgame song.
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:38 PM (#2337333)
It doesn't seem to matter the year, the Cubs are incapable of processing the idea that extra inning games can be won with something other than a homer.
   43. The Answer to the TWolves (GMoney) Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:39 PM (#2337336)
Nothing like having your hopes hinge on Ronny Cedeno as he looks at a change up right down broadway.
   44. Tony H. Posted: April 17, 2007 at 06:40 PM (#2337337)
Wow, he just took strike three. That was dumb. I wonder if he's going to get the Ben Grieve treatment from Piniella.
