I was at the game last night, but just went through the chatter for it, out of morbid curiosity. I was surprised at the lack of outrage at the third base coaching. I thought it was atrocious and expected there to be complete agreement on that. I was also somewhat annoyed that Santana wasn't allowed to pitch the 9th, though of course I still wasn't expecting what happened then to happen.

The 9th was so surreal, I didn't even really get bothered by it. I just kind of laughed while it happened. I would say I was in the minority though.

Hopefully, tonight Maine throws strikes and the game ends more pleasantly.

I'm going tonight. I'm 5-0 on the season.

I'll be there Thursday. In the press box. Hehe.

I was in the Mezzanine box, right behind a couple of SNY cameramen. The one whose screen I could see kept providing me with nice close-ups of attractive women in between pitches. It seems like they have a good gig.

Gotta win one of the next two.
   6. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 23, 2008 at 05:56 PM (#2869881)
It wouldn't shock me if they lost both.

And if Maine throws another 4 2/3, five walk gem, he needs to go. Its not like he goes that deep anyway and the guy isn't exactly young.
   7. will Posted: July 23, 2008 at 06:03 PM (#2869893)
Tonight- Brett Myers. His problems have been physical and mental. He "flys open" too often on his fastball. If he is throwing 86--88 mph fastballs, and they are often high and outside to lefthanders, it will show he hasn't improved during his 3 weeks in the minors. Mentally,if you see camera shots of Brett , looking to right or left center, seeming confused- particularly after hard hit balls, it will be time to get the bullpen up.

With rain tonight, and potential mid-game rain delays, will the Phils have an advantage with so many of the Mets relievers having been up , or used, last night ?

(This post for Russlan, who says I only come around when the Phillies are winning)

The Phillies didn't use any of their good relievers last night?

I guess the Phillies have Mariano Rivera-bot charged and ready for tonight.

There's nothing wrong with talking smack as long as you're here for the aftermath, both good and bad.

I know you're just angry about last night, but Maine very much needs to stick around. And unless he completely falls apart, I would think it's pretty much a lock that he sticks around for at least the next 3(4?) years, before he becomes a free agent.

It looks like Pedro is going to pitch on Friday.
   12. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 06:59 PM (#2869999)
Met relievers only threw 1 inning yesterday. I know they threw a lot of pitches but they just had an off-day. I don't think they need to be worried about the bullpen today.

Easley has been outstanding defensively? Really?

Endy doesn't walk frequently enough. Let's jump on a lead.

Man, Myers sucks.
   24. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2870038)
Myers is throwing about as hard as Blanton did last night.
   25. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2870039)
Weird to see Beltran fifth and Delgado 4th.
   26. will Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2870040)
This is about when Myers throws a down the middle fastball , that's hit 400 feet.
   27. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2870042)
Dammit, bases loaded.
   28. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2870043)
Ahh, the Mets are screwed. Bases loaded.
   29. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:28 PM (#2870048)
How will the Mets blow this?
   30. Swoboda is freedom Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:28 PM (#2870049)
Myers has Maine-like control tonight.
   31. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2870052)
Maine has better control than this, even when he sucks.
   32. Alan S Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870054)
Good to see that Myers figured it out down in the minors.
   33. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870053)
Most productive bases loaded PA this year!
   34. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870055)
Myers is afraid to throw the fastball.
   35. Alan S Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870056)
Marlon should be told to take 3 strikes.
   36. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870057)
Myers walks everyone and Marlon swings at the first pitch. Excellent.
   37. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2870058)
Marlon batting sixth? Really?
   38. Swoboda is freedom Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2870059)
Fing Marlon. Does this guy have naked pictures of Omar with a sheep or something?
   39. Alan S Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2870060)
Marlon Anderson sucks.
   40. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2870063)
At least it wasn't a double play.
   41. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2870064)
The Mets tried to hit into a DP but Howard blew it.
   42. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:32 PM (#2870065)
As an added bonus, the bases aren't loaded.
   43. Alan S Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2870067)
Paraphrasing Manuel from his interview on WFAN today: "I'm going to play the bench guys when they're hot, and sometimes I'm going to play them when they're struggling if the rest of the lineup is producing. I want to get Marlon at bats because we need him able be a good pinch hitter down the stretch."
   44. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2870069)
Fire Manuel.
   45. Raskolnikov Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2870071)
Maine just needs to be solid tonight, I'd be disappointed if we don't smack around Myers tonight.
   46. Alan S Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2870074)
Is it considered smacking him around if he just keeps walking people?
   47. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2870075)
I really can't hate on Marlon to much. He isn't an everyday player and he's being forced to play more than he should. The Mets need to get another healthy outfielder, Church or someone else.
   48. manchestermets Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2870076)
Even against the RHP, there isn't an excuse for Marlon to be in ahead of Tatis is there? It's just ridiculous.

I would very much like to see the caveman get sniped during this segment.

I'm not very fond of Shane Victorino.

HOW DO YOU WALK RUIZ? I'm dying here.
   62. TVerik fondly recalls Todd Palin's facial hair Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2870094)
It looked like Jenkins was off-balance on that swing - I wouldn't be happy if my young hitter had a cut like that, results be damned. That said, I don't think we mess with Geoff's swing at this point in his career.
   63. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2870099)
That Jenkins HR was a tape measure shot
   64. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2870101)
You have to get Ruiz there so the pitcher doesn't lead off. Horrible management of a game.
   65. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2870100)
Thanks Ruiz.
   66. TVerik fondly recalls Todd Palin's facial hair Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2870102)
Can anyone defend why the catcher should be running there? Anyone?
   67. will Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2870105)
Ruiz should be soooo happy that Myers struck out.
   68. Raskolnikov Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2870106)
No problem, we score 3 this inning off Myers.
   69. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 23, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2870107)

   86. Raskolnikov Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2870141)
Nah, I think Fernando will be better than Reyes or Wright.

Flores and Marte are the other two coming up that have the chance to be very special.
   87. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2870142)
Delgado has a higher OPS+ than Howard.
   88. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2870144)
Yeah, ESPN is blacked out here in the Philly burbs. Comcast came back in time for the line out to Wright, then disappeared again right away.
   89. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2870146)
And now it's back.

For anyone else who's watching the Comcast feed, how weird was Chris Wheeler calling Sarge a metrosexual?
   90. Raskolnikov Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2870147)
Delgado has been awesome.

   92. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2870151)
Myers looks like he is in a little groove. The Mets still don't have a hit.

No, the game is totally blacked out on ESPN. It's on Comcast SportsNet here.
   94. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2870157)
Myers doesn't seem to want anything to do with Wright.
   95. PreservedFish Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2870160)
Dang, you guys. He is holding his own in AA at 19. You guys are tough.

I'm tough on Fernando, because I thought there was a strong chance that he would be one of those Andruw Jones or Ken Griffey prospects that dominates every level at absurdly young ages and everyone agrees he's the best damn prospect in baseball. That was unfair of me. But the next Garret Anderson is less exciting than the next Stan Musial
   96. Raskolnikov Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2870162)
Okay, time to hit Victorino.
   97. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2870164)

Again, dang. You're already calling him the next Garret Anderson (no disrespect, he has had a fine career). There's an excellent chance he's better than that.
