Just win, baby.

I am sure you have all heard that Pedro won't be making his next start for unfortunate reasons. The Mets are going to need a starter on Saturday. Armas is on the DL and Vargas pitched last night. The guy who makes the most sense is Niese who was scheduled to pitch yesterday but the game got postponed.
   2. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 11:57 AM (#2871207)
Lots of righties in the lineup today.
   3. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:02 PM (#2871219)
Of course, for his career, Moyer has a slight reverse platoon split.
   4. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:04 PM (#2871227)
I might have kept Endy in the lineup because of Ollie's flyball tendencies but other than that, who is on the bench that you want playing? Marlon?
   5. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:05 PM (#2871228)
I really can't stand the criticism about Reyes last night. He didn't have to run fast because Brian Schneider was on first in front of him. And excuse him if he was a little pumped to hit a go-ahead 3-run homer last night. It's not like he was Shane Victorino, clapping his hands wildly in front of Reyes after Reyes' gaffe.
   6. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:05 PM (#2871229)
I'm not saying I have any problem with the lineup. I like having all the righties in there, but the OF defense is a tad scary.
   7. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:06 PM (#2871231)
For Moyer, it's all about the home plate ump. If he's giving Moyer the pitch six inches off the outside corner, it's going to be a long day.
   8. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:13 PM (#2871244)
Utley looked very uncomfortable the whole AB against Perez.
   9. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:15 PM (#2871249)
Utley looked very uncomfortable the whole AB against Perez.

Ollie dominates lefties. Utley's no garden variety lefty but he's still going to struggle against lefties.
   10. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:16 PM (#2871252)
Ollie!
   11. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:20 PM (#2871259)
That pitch was off the inside corner.
   12. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:22 PM (#2871263)
This is ridiculous. That 1-1 strike to Wright was a foot inside.
   13. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:24 PM (#2871266)
Yup, it's going to be a long day.
   14. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:24 PM (#2871269)
The Mets need to adjust. The ump is calling the inside "strike".
   15. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:25 PM (#2871273)
Marchman wrote a column about Pascucci.
   16. Fernando's Tatty (gian-angelo gallace) Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:28 PM (#2871278)
Best sports section in town, that NY Sun.
   17. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:29 PM (#2871280)
You aren't going to walk Ruiz on 4 pitches, are you?
   18. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:31 PM (#2871283)
Ollie looking good.
   19. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:37 PM (#2871289)
That was a strike, Carlos.
   20. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:50 PM (#2871303)
Perez abused Utley there.
   21. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:53 PM (#2871308)
Moyer just going through this lineup like a hot-knife through butter.
   22. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:56 PM (#2871314)
How on Earth did this slop thrower strike out four Mets batters? Glavine-esque strike zone?
   23. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:58 PM (#2871315)
He's got some questionable strike-3 calls against Reyes and Wright early and he struck out the pitcher. And to be fair, Moyer gets his fair share of Ks.
   24. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:59 PM (#2871317)
Good call by the ump. We've seen Reyes get called out on similar-looking plays.
   25. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:01 PM (#2871323)
Good call by the ump. We've seen Reyes get called out on similar-looking plays.

Yup. I was ready to make an angry post.
   26. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:02 PM (#2871324)
A couple of really nice two out AB's.
   27. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:02 PM (#2871325)
Nice job, Evans. Come on Wright!
   28. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:02 PM (#2871327)
Yes!
   29. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:02 PM (#2871328)
D-DUB!
   30. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:03 PM (#2871329)
Yes Wright! Let's go Delgado!
   31. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:03 PM (#2871331)
Come on Carlos, score Evans.
   32. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:07 PM (#2871338)
Those two sliders were filthy.
   33. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:07 PM (#2871339)
Utley and Howard are helpless vs. Ollie. It's awesome.
   34. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:10 PM (#2871345)
Good Ollie >>> Good Johan.
   35. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:10 PM (#2871346)
Ollie is awesome.
   36. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:10 PM (#2871347)
Ollie rocks. Let's get a run or two here.
   37. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:11 PM (#2871350)
Velocity is everything for Ollie. When he's throwing 91-93, he is dominating. When he is throwing 88-90, he's bad.
   38. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:15 PM (#2871355)
"Just" off the plate? I know the above-plate camera angle can be deceiving, but still...
   39. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:17 PM (#2871360)
Beltran has been pretty awful against Philly this year. I don't think it means anything.
   40. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:20 PM (#2871365)
2-0. Three fastballs. K.
   41. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2871369)
67 pitches, 9 K's through 5 innings. That is good.
   42. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:24 PM (#2871372)
At the risk of a jinx, Perez and Santana have owned Philly this year.

46 Innings, 7 runs. Santana has 20 Ks and 0 BB in 23 IP.
   43. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:28 PM (#2871376)
Met starting pitching, in general, has owned the Phillies.
   44. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:29 PM (#2871377)
Eh, one game out isn't so bad.
   45. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:32 PM (#2871380)
Wow, Evans. That was an awful throw.
   46. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2871383)
Perez's fastball is crackling.
   47. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2871384)
10!
   48. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2871386)
That's nasty, as the kids like to say!
   49. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:35 PM (#2871387)
Oooh, 2nd tough "going around" call for the Phillies. A shame.
   50. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2871388)
I don't think Howard went there. Perez's ERA+ just hit 100.
   51. Mark S. Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2871389)
6IP, 10K, 0BB and 78 pitches? Who is this and what have they done with Oliver Perez?
   52. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2871390)
93,94,95 on those heaters.
   53. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:37 PM (#2871391)
Take some pitches. Dang.
   54. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:38 PM (#2871392)
Perez's stuff is better than Sabathia's when its right.

Our AB's here against Moyer completely and utterly suck wind.
   55. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2871398)
Moyer, Delgado will kill you. Shuttup.
   56. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2871399)
What was that? A 6-pitch inning? He's had a couple under 10.

Disgusting.
   57. manchestermets Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2871400)
Christ Moyer, if you don't put any fielders somewhere he's every right to try and hit the ball there.
   58. Rodder Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:41 PM (#2871401)
After 6 innings, both pitchers with 78 pitches including 51 strikes. Both with 4 baserunners.
   59. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:42 PM (#2871402)
I hate Werth.
   60. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:42 PM (#2871404)
They got this ####### for nothing and he's Chipper ####### Jones.
   61. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:43 PM (#2871405)
Werth crushed that.
   62. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:46 PM (#2871413)
I just dropped in. Why can't we hit Jamie Moyer?
   63. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2871416)
Why can't we hit Jamie Moyer?

People have been asking that for years.
   64. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:49 PM (#2871419)
2-0. SWING AT A CHANGEUP!

stupid ####### Beltran.
   65. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:50 PM (#2871421)
2-0 to Tatis... let's see what happens.

TAKE! AMAZING! WALK!
   66. billyshears Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:50 PM (#2871422)
People have been asking that for years.

Yeah, but he's older now.
   67. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:51 PM (#2871425)
But he's only, what, 46? He's got a couple years left in him.
   68. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:53 PM (#2871428)
The Mets just seem indifferent.
   69. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:53 PM (#2871429)
How about a blast here, Ramon?
   70. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:54 PM (#2871430)
The Mets just seem indifferent.

Lame. You have to give the other team credit.
   71. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:55 PM (#2871433)
How about nothing.

If not for Wright's two RBI, the Mets would be getting one-hit by Jamie ####### Moyer. Way to show up, fellas.
   72. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2871436)
Lame. You have to give the other team credit.

Aw. Come on. Read their body language.

Moyer gets enough credit he doesn't need it from me.
   73. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2871438)
This has been a great game, C&M;. Enjoy it.
   74. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:58 PM (#2871439)
Where did that 0-0 pitch miss?
   75. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:58 PM (#2871441)
That was very scary.
   76. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:58 PM (#2871442)
I AM enjoying it.

As Bruntlett nearly goes deep. Might be time to pull Ollie... right after Utley.
   77. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:59 PM (#2871443)
Jeez. Bruntlett nearly went deep.

Utley's due.
   78. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 01:59 PM (#2871444)
First time I've been happy to see Utley up.
   79. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:00 PM (#2871445)
Utley is going to have nightmares tonight.
   80. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:00 PM (#2871447)
Golden Sombrero for Utley.
   81. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:01 PM (#2871450)
Frankly, i'd rather bring in somebody to get Burrell than pitch to Howard

Howard is due to rock one and I intensely disdain the IBB.
   82. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:01 PM (#2871451)
Howard's due.
   83. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2871453)
Utley only has 3 Ks, I think. Howard could get #4 now.
   84. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2871457)
0-2 to 3-2. Yikes. Bad vibes.
   85. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2871458)
Damn.
   86. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2871459)
AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T WALK ANYONE SHORT OF ALBERT ####### PUJOLS.
   87. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:05 PM (#2871461)
Well, this was a wonderful outing by Perez. Pelfrey has thrown a few gems, but this is the most impressive I think a Mets SP has looked this year. Let him finish with just 1 run allowed, Heilman.
   88. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2871464)
Ah. I thought he was going to get out of it after he got ahead of Howard 0-2.

Heilman isn't getting Werth out, is he?

What a game to watch.
   89. Bob Koo Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2871463)
Well, this is the game right here.
   90. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2871466)
Intentionally. Doy.
   91. Chris Dial Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:07 PM (#2871467)
Dirty was the right guy here.
   92. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:07 PM (#2871468)
Utley only has 3 Ks, I think. Howard could get #4 now.

Yeah, I messed up. 3 Ks is a sombrero, 4 is golden, 5 is platinum, 6 is DFA.
   93. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:08 PM (#2871471)
0-2. I wonder how Werth will reach base now.
   94. Joshemy Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:08 PM (#2871473)
Aaron!
   95. Alan S Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:08 PM (#2871474)
Phew.
   96. AJM Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:09 PM (#2871475)
Phew. That scared me for a second.
   97. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:09 PM (#2871476)
####. I thought that was gone.

Nice pitch on 0-2.
   98. Conor Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:09 PM (#2871477)
Was that as close to the wall as Gameday made it seem?
   99. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2871481)
Werth has trouble with the good heat from righties.
   100. PreservedFish Posted: July 24, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2871482)
Waking up to find that the Mets are in a 1-1 game in the 8th is not good for ones nerves
